That's harsh for people working Christmas Day

Sad

Although we're now Tier 4 so it won't matter here.

I wonder how many will actually change their plans. As it happens, my plan had always been to spend 2 weeks on the sofa with occasional walks Grin

I guess they didn't say choose one day out of the 5 because people tend to push the limits and would see one group on one day and another group on another day. By saying the 25th, it is a lot clearer. Doesn't mean I agree with it though and if people want to do 26th instead then crack on I say!
Bet the shops wish they'd stayed open on 26th now as they'd be a lot busier now people don't have anything else to do!

ChristmasSomething · 19/12/2020 22:54

And there lies the issue, because lots are taking the piss (or will take the piss) it means those working on Christmas Day don’t get to see others, which in some cases will be seeing no one at all.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/12/2020 22:59

Yes, this has really pissed me off.

DH is working Christmas Day and Boxing Day so we were going to meet friends on another day over the Christmas week. Obviously not. We're now back to it being just us and more walks and I'm sick of walking, walking, walking! 😠

BogRollBOGOF · 19/12/2020 23:26

The virus doesn't care if you follow the rules Wink

It doesn't make any difference that Boris says the 25th. It's not a magical talisman. If your plans would be acceptable on the 25th, why should you have to miss out because of work commitments.

I hope that anyone berating any keyworker "heroes" for having the audacity to shift their Christmas Day because they are working is not a raging hypocrite who was out there clapping every Thursday in the early days of this...

It’s people like you that spread it***@ChristmasTreeFairy5000*

Bollocks. Boxing Day is no more risky than Christmas Day *

Exactly!! Its people like you @ChristmasUserName2020 that spread animosity and general rubbish!

Yes, completely agree @mi
littlemissalwaystired · 20/12/2020 00:31

Another NHS worker working a full 13 hour day on Christmas Day and therefore missing out completely. Very aware I'm still in a fortunate position compared to a lot of people, but I'm just feeling really deflated and downtrodden tonight. Absolutely no morale left in the NHS currently.

caringcarer · 20/12/2020 01:03

I feel very sorry for those having to work on Xmas day, usually to keep the public safe in some way, and now can't have a meeting day with extended family.

namechangedtoaskaQ · 20/12/2020 01:11

@ValancyRedfern

Because the power of Boris means the virus doesn't spread on Christmas Day?!? Seeing her family on Boxing Day will be no worse than seeing them on Christmas Day.
THIS THIS THIS

People getting up on high horse if people chose boxing day instead of Christmas day! The ministers aren't god!!!!

myhobbyisouting · 20/12/2020 01:18

@ChristmasUserName2020 😆😆 "people like you"

Seriously. Get a grip. If I meet ILs on 27th I'll have isolated an extra 2 days from the original plan. So please tell me how I'll be spreading it to anyone more than if I met them on Christmas Day?

Namechangeme87 · 20/12/2020 01:21

Il be having a brief visit Boxing Day instead and hope to god that the virus doesnt catch me since it’s not it’s day off !!! 😉

Already decided not to do big Xmas this year despite the previous rulezzz when it was allowed as common sense said that would be a bad choice , so using same common sense for a quick visit Boxing Day to drop of presents . And in fairness I am in a bubble with them and they have already had the virus so all good

wanderings · 20/12/2020 07:28

What will Saint Boris-Cromwell be doing on Christmas Day? Will he be a good boy and stay within the confines of Number Ten? Or will be kissing the Queen's hand to wish her luck just before her secret speech? Will he be keeping an eye on his MPs, to make sure they don't break his roolz? Will he be playing charades while wearing a Cromwellian wig?

Penners99 · 20/12/2020 07:50

The lockdown does not go far enough. T4 should be nationwide with no exemption for Christmas at all.

Nikhedonia · 20/12/2020 10:08

I think there should be a sweepstake on the MP's who will break the 'Christmas Day only' rule. Any guesses?

Hardbackwriter · 20/12/2020 10:13

@nosswith

There will be retail staff having Boxing day off for once, possibly the only good thing I can take out of this.
I'm sure the many people with temporary retail jobs over Christmas that now won't have them and won't get paid will be delighted, yes.
StealthPolarBear · 20/12/2020 10:16

This occurred to me too. Nhs staff (and others) working Christmas day and then finding that twas their one opportunity to see family.

Nowaynothappening · 20/12/2020 10:18

It’s not like covid thinks ‘well it’s Christmas Day, I’ll let them have today off’. If you’re not going anywhere Christmas Day then why not go somewhere Boxing Day. It makes total sense to me tbh. The issue was mixing with multiple families across a 5 day period, totally bonkers idea.

dreamingbohemian · 20/12/2020 10:32

It's because the people in charge have never worked on Christmas Day in their lives. They must think the country just runs itself that day.

rubystiles · 20/12/2020 11:38

I will also be working Christmas Day (NHS) I would agree with the “choose one day” rule if it weren’t for the piss takers who would take all 5 days anyway. Where does it end? So, I can see why they have said Christmas Day only as much as it upsets me.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 20/12/2020 12:32

😂🤣😂 Nope. We still have to come in. Not allowed to open so we get to clean the store top to bottom instead.

Any of them, or the 'scientists' etc who do, should resign immediately & if they don't be as heavily sanctioned as possible. No excuses.
LunchBoxPolice · 20/12/2020 13:17

We are seeing our bubble on Christmas Eve and for that day only. It makes no difference virus wise if we see them Thursday or Friday this week, so we will be ignoring the “only Christmas Day rule”.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/12/2020 13:20

To you & everyone working CD I'm grateful for you & very sorry you can't 'choose a day' but I agree totally with you, people would just take the piss. Unfortunately.

I think it's easier to police as well - if they even try.

(I'm spending Christmas Day alone. All of the Christmas period in fact, so I'm not being smug at all)

I think it's unfairly difficult for some more than others(things like no public transport) & I'm genuinely sorry about that, but I also think if more people stay in their own houses it's a good thing, population wide.

Urgh.

I suppose it'll be a really good job to get done, I just wish they had robots to go in & do it, so you could all have a paid day off!!

rubystiles · 20/12/2020 13:29

Thank you Witches - wishing you a healthy, peaceful Christmas x
