Am sure there will still be Christmas food available. As you’ve been working hard, I’d go for something easy but delicious to cook - maybe a duck you could pop in the oven to roast. I’d buy a nice bottle of wine, gin and decent tonic. Nice late wake up, relaxing shower/bath, clean pjs, late breakfast of egg and bacon roll, Christmas film, G&T, cooking, eating and wine, snooze, more Christmas film/Christmas specials on tv. May have just written my own perfect Christmas!

Yes sounds lovely i wonder of fortnum and mason is counted as a necessity 😂😂

Croissants and coffee for breakfast, a lie in with a new book, walk in the park if the weather is okay, pre-planned nice ready meal or takeaway, afternoon film and cake and snooze, lovely bath, more food, another film and hot chocolate, bed.

If I had M&S that close by (lucky you) - I would be doing a very late Xmas eve dash for food, buying all the last minute specials on offer.

(M&S truffle mash....)

I am borrowing a dog for the day for a nice long walk (forecast is cold) as a way of justifying (to others) that I have something nice to do on my own for the day. 😊

Squiffany · 19/12/2020 16:53

Spoil yourself with quality, but easy cook food for the day. Posher than your usual brands. Some nice alcohol and a couple of films.

Squiffany · 19/12/2020 16:54

I’m also a nurse and finish on Wednesday. We’d planned to see close family that We haven’t been able to see since last Christmas. Very upsetting.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/12/2020 16:57

If I were on my own, I think I'd sit under a blanket watching films, eating nibbles and drinking champagne all day...

FPS123 · 19/12/2020 17:00

I once bought all my Christmas food from M&S - ironically because I was skint and used gift vouchers I’d been given for my birthday. It was great!
I’d get their ready prepped stuff and spoil myself.

barbrahunter · 19/12/2020 17:04

Thank you for working over Christmas OP, I hope you do indeed have a lovely time off, whatever you decide to do.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 19/12/2020 17:11

Fortnums was open during the last lockdown.
Caviar and preserves are essential, after all!

Unescorted · 19/12/2020 17:18

Have you and your family got zoom / teams or the like..... co-ordinate eating times, open up a call when you all sit down for dinner & prop your lap top up on your table and they do the same. We used virtual dinners for DD when she went to uni to stave off homesickness. They worked better than expected.

DianaT1969 · 19/12/2020 17:29

If you live alone, don't you have a support bubble?

EachandEveryone · 19/12/2020 17:47

Never needed one.my life has just continued really. Work and more work. Like i sad my family is up North. I have food neighbours and friends who will be with their own families.

If you can get out and shop before Wednesday I'd advise doing so. I think lots of people who expected to be dining with relatives will now be shopping, as a PP said.

EachandEveryone · 19/12/2020 18:29

No i cant working til 8pm. No you think central london will be shut?

Backbee · 19/12/2020 18:32

Get some (easy to prepare) food you enjoy, find some stuff on the telly or a boxset/films you've wanted to watch, jammy and duvet day with good food and TV? Maybe arrange video calls with family if you wanted, could even try and arrange opening presents or something over video?

Horsemad · 19/12/2020 18:37

Central London won't be shut - essential shops are allowed to open, I believe.
My concern is that people will be clearing the shelves. If you're not fussed what you have to eat you'll be fine. I'd happily have beans on toast on Xmas Day. 🙂

Horsemad · 19/12/2020 18:39

I imagine the supermarkets will be open until midnight at least, so you'll probably be fine.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/12/2020 18:43

I’d buy loads of halva and watch films.

Youngatheart00 · 19/12/2020 18:44

If you have any days off between now and Xmas eve I’d advise trying to get your bits for your Xmas dinner sooner. As others have said, the demand for solo / small dinners will be increased hugely by today’s announcements.

Recommendations others have made sound lovely. Nice food, drink, good telly, warm house, and there’s always Mumsnet for company 😁

FireflyGirl · 19/12/2020 18:47

Morrisons have partnered with Amazon, so you might be able to get a shop delivered.

tilder · 19/12/2020 18:48

I've spent Christmas day alone before. I avoided Christmas tv but watched a favourite box set. Totally agree with the food. Easy to prepare stuff that you love.

I also made a list of 'things to do next year'. Including very unlikely things as well as easy to achieve. I did do some of them as well.

DelphiniumBlue · 19/12/2020 18:49

Get in some red wine and rum and make some delicious mulled wine, plenty of nice snacks - crisps, mince pies, choccies, maybe some bake your own french bread/rolls, cheese, crackers & chutney, satsumas, light a few candles, buy Radio Times and work out your schedule around that! And make sure you have a variety of books - Amazon still delivering I think.

caringcarer · 19/12/2020 19:18

I got turkey from Aldi today as last time I am going out now before Xmas. I have a Morrisons delivery late Monday evening but no fresh turkeys left for delivery. Go shopping tomorrow, don't leave it as now a lot of people will be trying to get hold of turkeys, beef and salmon as their plans are now cancelled. Treat yourself to all your favourite food, alcohol and snack treats too. Find a good box set on Netflix. Make the most of being able to do exactly what you want and in your own time.
