Aga or Everhot?

Trying to decide and would be fab to hear other people's experiences. We want it to heat a large kitchen (no ch) but also to be able to turn it off in summer.

Everhots put out quite a gentle heat, so not necessarily the best option for heating.

CrackersDontMatter · 17/12/2020 14:15

I didn't realise this was in chat. I just glanced at the title and In my post-nights stupor thought it was a baby name thread Ada vs EverhotBlush

I thought "that's an...erm...interesting choice"

GervaseFen · 17/12/2020 14:33

Brilliant!

Jesus, I thought at a glance this was a baby-name thread. Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 17/12/2020 14:36

Also thought this was a baby name thread Grin

Everhot would be a great stripper name

Waitingfirgodot · 17/12/2020 14:43

We have an aga. It's a four door one. It warms our biggish kitchen in the winter - and usually has a dog, a car and several children sitting by it! It's lovely to cook with. Only problem is that it gets through a lot of oil!

Toddlerteaplease · 17/12/2020 14:45

Also thought it was a baby name thread!

NastyBlouse · 17/12/2020 14:47

Aga Everhot sounds like a character from a Carry On film.

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/12/2020 14:48

I'm about to purchase an everhot and so following for views..

AnnaMagnani · 17/12/2020 14:53

I have the smallest Everhot and love it. Not needed the heating on in the kitchen and not overwhelming in the summer either.

Also bought reconditioned which made it half the price, company was superb.

Gilead · 17/12/2020 16:07

I want to know how bid Waitingfirgodot’s kitchen is, a car by the Aga! Now that’s a stealth boast!
(I know you meant cat)!

Gilead · 17/12/2020 16:07

Big! 😆

GervaseFen · 17/12/2020 16:30

Where did you get it from @AnnaMagnani? We're also looking at reconditioned as they are crazy prices new.

toomanyplants · 17/12/2020 16:36

I too thought this was a baby name thread
Actually said out loud "fucking Everhot"

PerveenMistry · 17/12/2020 16:40

Lol.

I thought Aga was a new age form of Agatha.

MyCrap · 17/12/2020 16:48

We love, love, love our Aga. Yes it gets through the oil (I think it's 100 or 150L per week) but there's oodles of hot water and it heats the kitchen all day as we're working from home. We turn it off in the summer and back on in Autumn. You need another method of heating your water for those summer months - an immersion heater or electric shower?

AnnaMagnani · 17/12/2020 19:02

I got mine from here:

www.secondhandeverhot.co.uk/

They were fantastic and will do any colour you want, which I didn't realise - thought I was stuck with whatever colour they had in stock.

It also hasn't blown up my electricity bill either. Took a short while to get used to cooking on it and I found the Facebook forums helpful but now it's total love.

GervaseFen · 17/12/2020 22:15

That's super helpful - both love for aga and everhot are encouraging!
@mycrap do you have oven and hob for summer?

OP posts:
AfterSchoolWorry · 17/12/2020 22:18

🙈🤭

On first glance I thought this was a baby names thread! 🙈🤭

CherryPavlova · 17/12/2020 22:19

Love our Aga. Probably wouldn’t like it so much if it was solid fuel, or even oil heated. Ours is an AIMS programmable version. Heats one end of house, does drying but also can be put to slumber or holiday mode.

onyourway · 17/12/2020 22:27

I can't believe your Aga gets through 150litres of oil a week, that's insane.

We have one and the oil heats the house as well as hot water and we probably only use 50-75 litres a week. I know that's not great, but it does all the drying, most of the hot water and heats that end of the house well. That's about £35 a week.

GervaseFen · 17/12/2020 22:28

All this talk of baby names and Aggie is really starting to grow on me Grin

Blownaway22 · 17/12/2020 22:33

Love our Aga. It’s a two oven and drinks oil. Didn’t get the water heating model as the bloke in the Aga Shop advised not to as it is more economical to have our boiler heat a large tank. We turn it down to too low to cook on during the summer but just gives a ray of heat - have a two ring gas hob and elec oven for those months. It’s like the house gains a heart the day it gets lit again in the autumn!

EmmaStone · 17/12/2020 22:36

We inherited an Aga when we moved house last year. Was having to fill up the oil tank every 4-6 weeks, and it just felt terribly wasteful being on 24/7, when we were out of the house 7:30-6:00. We got rid early in lockdown 1, we also changed our boiler, and our oil consumption has plummeted.

Had we kept it, we would have also needed to buy a summer oven and hob and find somewhere to put them, without an obvious solution. I've not regretted getting rid for a minute.

GervaseFen · 17/12/2020 22:44

I can totally see they're not right for every house. I grew up with one but this is the first house I've lived in as an adult where I've thought it made sense. Someone is home most of the time and we will really benefit from the extra heat rather than seeing it as wasteful.
