And you just miss it because it was so good. And you just want to talk about it but no one wants to talk to you about it.
Which books have been like that for you?

Recently Tidelands by philippa Gregory was that for me.

Before that, probably something by neil gaiman. (any to be honest!)

ReeseWitherfork · 16/12/2020 20:36

Most of the books I finish make me feel like that! What book was it OP?

hollyhope · 16/12/2020 20:38

Tinmeline, by Michael Crichton
Stephen King's earlier books

I find it hard to start reading a new one when I've finished something I really loved.

For me it was Where The Crawdads Sing...I loved it so much I found it hard to get into another one for ages after that!

Gohackyourself · 16/12/2020 21:07

I’ve just finished Jojo moyes “ the giver of stars”
Recommended to me when I perusing the book shelves in Tesco , by a lady who runs a book club!! Took a good 2 chapters to get into but loved it.
Finished it yesterday and don’t want to read anything different to the storyline I was so involved in.

lunasunshine · 16/12/2020 21:29

Any books by Khaled Hosseini have definitely given me that effect (Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, And the Mountains Echoed). Also, the Colour Purple. Oh and All the Bright Places. I was devastated when that ended!

Winterfellismyhome · 16/12/2020 21:34

Circe. DP just gave me a blank look when i told him about it

fluckityfluckfluck · 16/12/2020 21:36

I Am Pilgrim. Epic.

FPS123 · 16/12/2020 21:37

I know I’m going to feel like that about the book I’m reading at the moment.

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins. I can’t put it down.

KaptainKaveman · 16/12/2020 21:37

You must read Colson Whitehead's " The Nickel Boys". The ending just took my breath away. I had to talk about it, it's brilliant, poignant and savage.

Catwoman1985 · 16/12/2020 21:39

Just adding to my wishlist! Keep going please

chillichoclove · 16/12/2020 21:43

Agree with where the crawdads sing. Amazing

thenightsky · 16/12/2020 21:44

The Magpies by Mark Edwards.

Geekster1963 · 16/12/2020 21:46

I agree with Where The Crawdads Sing as others have mentioned, that book stayed with me for ages.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/12/2020 21:49

Never let me go was like that for me. I bawled for an hour after putting it down for the last time. No one I knew had read it and still haven’t! I tear up thinking about it.

LBOCS2 · 16/12/2020 21:50

@fluckityfluckfluck

I Am Pilgrim. Epic.

I really enjoyed this too, I've been waiting for the sequel but they keep pushing back the publishing date!

CosyAcorn · 16/12/2020 21:54

Oh yes, I know that feeling. A book hangover, your sad and filled with regret that you read it so fast.

The Thirteenth Tale does that for me every time.

theseriousmoonlight · 16/12/2020 21:54

I've got Crawdads on my tbr list - looking forward to it. I agree with you @Winterfellismyhome, Circe really stayed with me as a book. I often think of her randomly when I'm going about my day!

I'm reading Hamnet at the moment and I'm torn between not wanting it to end because I'm really enjoying it, not wanting it to end because I know how sad the ending will be and wanting to keep reading it because it's so beautiful. I know it will be a book that I will miss when I'm finished.

RosieLemonade · 16/12/2020 21:55

It was song of Achilles. I read it over two nights staying up till 1am on the second night (I usually got to bed at 9 and asleep by 10). I’m reading The Silence Of The Girls now but their Achilles and Patroclus is different to the one in Song of... and I’m missing MY Achilles and Patroclus.

When I read the Flatshare I totally fell in love with Leon. When I finished I couldn’t get over that I had read all that existed of him if you get what I mean.

Gohackyourself
I agree, that was a lovely book, I was so sad when I finished it.

GypsyWanderer · 16/12/2020 21:57

I get it. Some books I have like a grieving period where will can’t read anything for a few days until I’ve fully got over what I’ve read Blush and then again at times I can quickly start another book the same day.

But it’s all worth it to find a book that I am so involved with it’s all consuming.

LifeOfBriony · 16/12/2020 21:59

I felt the same about Where the Crawdads Sing.

I will come back to this thread for ideas for my TBR list.

Costa200 · 16/12/2020 22:04

JoJo Moyes Night Music - I’m a great reader but just not a fan of reading iykwim but this book was bought for me last Christmas and I gave it a go...couldn’t put it down and could read it again tomorrow! That said Wuthering Heights has always been one of my ultimate favourites!! 🤪😳😜

TranquilityofSolitude · 16/12/2020 22:08

Recently, American Dirt. While I was reading it I simultaneously wanted to read on to find out what happened and also couldn't bear to read any more of it because it was all so harrowing. Thankfully a friend was reading it at the same time so I could get it out of my system!

flatpack1 · 16/12/2020 22:11

Agree with both PPs I Am Pilgrim is an absolute epic
