Semifreddo. Lots of flavour options. Can freeze in advance. Baileys an option!

Sexnotgender · 16/12/2020 09:55

I hate Christmas pudding.

I’m having pecan pie cheesecake. Will make it the day before.

Artesia · 16/12/2020 10:00

I keep suggesting it and no one likes the idea, but go retro with a baked Alaska! You can shape the ice cream and bake the sponge base in advance, just cover with meringue and bake on the day, and stand back for oohs and aaahs of admiration!

You can play with flavours. Traditional is vanilla sponge, raspberry jam and vanilla ice cream but I’ve done a lovely one with banana sponge and chocolate ice cream, served with warm choc sauce. Quite fancy a coffee sponge, Baileys ice cream and choc sauce next time!

In need of ideas so watching with interest...

What about just tiramisu? Jamie Oliver made one on TV the other day that didn't contain raw eggs. Recipe here

deathb4decaf · 16/12/2020 18:40

Tiramisu trifle 😍

Pecan pie cheesecake sounds AMAZING
Sexnotgender · 16/12/2020 18:49

It does sound amazing, I’ve never made it before but I love pecan pie and I love cheesecake so I feel it may be a winner!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 16/12/2020 18:50

Lemon posset and chocolate fondant here

Primulachristmas · 16/12/2020 18:53

Chocolate and black cherry log. Will make and freeze this weekend

veeeeh · 16/12/2020 18:54

Buy After Eight mint chocs. Place them in a square, put nice ice cream or Baileys flavoured cream in the square. Gorgeous and so easy.

AdaColeman · 16/12/2020 18:55

Chocolate Yule log, you could make it with coffee cream filling, so similar flavours to the tiramisu you had planned.

Black Forest trifle.

Pavlova with mixed berries.

Geekster1963 · 16/12/2020 18:59

We have fruit salad. It is my Dads favourite and we always had it as an alternative to Christmas pudding growing up, as we didn’t all like Christmas pudding. I make one for us now and it’s lovely and refreshing after Christmas dinner.

Ooh yum. Do you mind sharing the recipe?

That’s not a pudding! We’re having a selection from M&S - tarte au citron, sherry trifle and whatever else takes my fancy when I go in next week.
Roominmyhouse · 16/12/2020 19:02

Baileys cheesecake?

wowfudge · 16/12/2020 19:04

Good sherry trifle.

veeeeh · 16/12/2020 19:11

Oh look here, pudding, dessert, whatever you want to call it is just a tad too much after gorging on the little piggies in their duvets, and farting from the brussel sprouts etc. lol.

Who really needs afters after all that! Gluttons, that's who do.

Rennies to the rescue!

MargosKaftan · 16/12/2020 19:12

Was going to be my favourite lime cheesecake, but ds has successfully campaigned for raspberry cheesecake and dd wants chocolate cake (which will be shop bought). Im not doing more than that. Dh will want Christmas pudding in theory, in reality will be too full, so I won't make my own, as that creates an obligation to eat as far as he's concerned!

Pbbananabagel · 16/12/2020 19:35

The classic - Sticky Toffee puddin

SabrinaThwaite · 16/12/2020 21:18

Lemon posset here too - very quick and easy to make.

Nowaynothappening · 16/12/2020 21:24

My DC have requested knickerbocker glory’s this year and are greatly looking forward to it. I’ve bought lots of different toppings and even bought little cake sparklers to stick in the top.

SionnachRua · 16/12/2020 21:27

Banoffe for me, greatest dessert going.
Mango sticky rice is a great one too but doesn't really go with Xmas dinner...

dylanthedragon · 16/12/2020 21:29

I was thinking about doing a pavlova with tinned raspberries, turkish delight amd pistacbios on it but I think i might end up having the whole thing to myself so might just buy a selection of Gu puddings (or the sainsbury's copy ones which are really nice).

if you do a pavlova, you can make the base the day before and prep the toppings then just takes a minute to put it together.

Lightningrain · 16/12/2020 22:08

We weren’t going to bother but I’ve decided to make a tiramisu. My favourite dessert and I don’t find it too sweet.
