Hi all,

Is there anything you feel smug about? Perhaps something you wouldn’t admit to in real life?

Definitely smug about my dog. I love the very bones of that creature and he is just lovely. I know plenty of folk with barky boisterous dogs that won't go in the car, wreck their houses and are really jumpy.
My dog?? Awesome. Smug as anything here (but super grateful).

@inquietant

There's a interesting number of people who post on this parenting site about how 'happy' they are not to be parents.
There's an absolute ton of content on this site that isn't parenting-related and comments like this have been done to death.

Incidentally, why did you feel the need to place 'happy' in quotes?

POP7777777 · 15/12/2020 21:58

My daughter being so smiley and happy and kind. A good egg. 😊

@Dontforgetyourbrolly

I feel smug that I'm content . I have a family member who literally has it all , but shes never satisfied, always wants the next best thing , keeping up with the Jones's etc etc Really dissatisfied with life , very pushy with her kids never happy Me and Ds have got our health and I'm happy with that! Got made redundant, currently doing a rubbish job for rubbish money but I'm like meh no ones dead, we're ok and happy !
Love your attitude!!!!

Secretly, secretly - staying slim and fit through the menopause. But I would never so much as hint at it publicly as I know it would win me no friends.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 15/12/2020 22:14

Well this is very vain of me but anyway...

Pregnancy didnt change my body. No stretch marks, no extra skin, still a size 8. Both my DC have been easy babies so far and I dont really have sleepless nights. My 2 year old sleeps from 8 until 8 with an hour nap at 12 and my 8month old is pretty much the same except wakes for a dream feed. With a small age gap I was filled with horror stories of what life is like in the early stages, I'm pleasantly surprised. I dont say this at playgroup though as last time I really thought I was going to be killed.

plumpootle · 15/12/2020 22:24

I'm smug that after years of being bottom of everything at school and being written off completely academically by 15 I have got to the top of my profession, I've done far better than any of my siblings and peers who were coached for grammar schools, privately educated encouraged and pushed. I earn a lot of money, I work entirely flexibly, I'm very much respected, I'm often head hunted, I'm asked to mentor younger colleagues. I have lots of other things that I am just on my knees with gratitude for because I don't deserve them, like my wonderful DH and DD. But my career and (eventual) academic achievements I will secretly take to my grave as the biggest achievement and fuck you of all time.

Hopefulhen · 15/12/2020 22:32

My baby is super cute and really smiley.
I never have to cook because my other half always does.
My dog is objectively adorable and well behaved.

FraggleShingleBellRock · 15/12/2020 22:37

Despite being seriously disabled in my twenties, and being a carer for several disabled family members..... I gained a degree and a masters desire having no GCSEs. Took me almost twenty years but I did it module by module and am now the best educated person in my family.

Boredgames · 15/12/2020 22:49

I live in a very ordinary house in an ordinary town. My dc went to the local state schools. I've never paid a penny towards their education and they've never had tutors. They all went to Russell Group universities and are doing very well for themselves. I see all the angst on MN about grammar schools, private schools, tutoring small children to get into prep schools at 7 and so on and I feel very lucky and perhaps a bit smug Smile

LovingCountryLife · 15/12/2020 23:37

I’m never smug, horrible way to be but I am grateful that I have a lovely life, a wonderful DH who adores me, a beautiful home in an idyllic location, a good job, we’re comfortably off, I enjoy being child free and have two of the cutest, loving dogs that I adore. I’m mid forties but I look and feel great.. in summary I feel like I have the life I always wanted...but I’m never ever smug and very aware that like everyone, things can go very wrong and the rug can be pulled from underneath you...So I try to be in the moment as much as possible.. threads like this are good because they remind you of what you have Smile

Amazing, what an inspiration you are.
Pipandmum · 15/12/2020 23:40

I'm a little bit smug my area is tier 1...

Hangingover · 15/12/2020 23:43

My abs. I do work out hard though.

There's also an interesting number of condescending twats who consistently bleat this out. Go and have a look at the vast amount of talk topics that have nothing to do with parenting.

@Plussizejumpsuit
I agree.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/12/2020 23:50

I am very heavily pregnant and I'm quite a lot of pain but today I went to IKEA, managed to get everything I needed (that was in stock), including some quite heavy stuff. Brought it home, built it and got the kids room sorted, AND did a quick dinner and housework. I'm really suffering for it now though. Can hardly walk.
Also, not smug just relieved only have 2 more days of work left before I'm off for the holidays, and then I'm on maternity leave.

grassisjeweled · 16/12/2020 00:58

My eyes are really, really beautiful

That's brilliant! Smile
Worriedandabitscared · 16/12/2020 01:11

I'm in my second year of university and I've had a difficult pregnancy, I'm 33 weeks pregnant, had Hyperemesis since 8 weeks, high risk pregnancy and still managing to get As and Bs on my assessments whilst working from home Smile

That is something to be smug about definitely!
MerchantOfVenom · 16/12/2020 05:29

I have a lot that I’m grateful for - wouldn’t say smug - sometime I worry that it’s all too good to be true. I daren’t voice it out loud for fear of jinxing it. But feel very lucky to have this life. None of it’s particularly major or significant - just lots of things that add up to a very content life.

Jaffajiffy · 16/12/2020 05:31

This is outing if you know me. Ah well. I’m smug that my kids speak Spanish fluently because I hired Spanish child carers and was firm about Spanish only. I love it when people wonder at it and I get to say, airily, “yes, they’re fluent.”

inquietant · 16/12/2020 05:38

There's also an interesting number of condescending twats who consistently bleat this out. Oh I just spotted this remark! I thought the original remark condescending. The nature of a site like this is it is quite circular, have been reading and posting for years and years, sometimes it is groundhog day. But just the last week I have read the 'having kids is shit' line much more than other weeks. It'll just be random threads I've read presumably.

NigelWithTheBrie79 · 16/12/2020 05:43

Quitting smoking cold turkey. I tried vaping but found it an expensive nuisance what with keeping it charged, clean and topped up. Grin

GreenWheat · 16/12/2020 05:44

I feel secretly smug that my socially-competitive neighbour paid a fortune for a resin driveway because "they are far superior to brick driveways like yours - we won't get weeds growing on it like you do". It is currently covered in a fine, extremely hard to shift moss. Ha!
