I have a white cabbage, how would you recommend I cook it in the most delicious way?

Shredded then cooked with 1tsp of caraway seeds, some garlic and some veg stock. Finished with a dollop of creme fraiche. Ridiculously tasty for something so simple.

Haha that's my favourite way to cook it!

Thank you everyone, some great ideas. I really appreciate it, I love cooking side dishes in different ways to make meals more interesting so it's really helpful to have a few different ones, I'll have to get a few more cabbages and try them all (with the windows open!).

Stir fried with Kung pao sauce

Coleslaw

Stir fried with Indian spices (cumin and coriander seeds, turmeric and Chat masala usually) in a chapatti as a wrap with mango chutney

HaudMaDug · 14/12/2020 16:09

In the log burner and when its ready just leave it in there.

FPS123 · 14/12/2020 16:14

Shredded and fried in olive oil with bacon

Xiaoxiong · 14/12/2020 16:15

Roast in wedges and serve with romesco sauce

Slice into wide ribbons, fry in a wok with garlic and splash of chicken stock, finish with soy sauce and sesame oil

ToeTouchingTitties · 14/12/2020 16:15

Blanched and then sautéed with butter, garlic and some of the meat cooking juices (presuming it is being served with meat)...

Xiaoxiong · 14/12/2020 16:17

Oh and my ABSOLUTE favourite - cut into rounds and roast it under a whole chicken.

If you can get a celeriac make remoulade. Like coleslaw, but not.

Fry it with garlic and butter.

Roast it.

Norwegian lamb and cabbage soup.

Fuckityfucksake · 14/12/2020 16:18

in a stock cube if I'm making it for Sunday lunch. I don't care for it's bland taste.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 14/12/2020 16:19

Cut a couple of slits in one or two red chillis and stir-fry in some olive oil to get the flavour, then add finely shredded cabbage and cook till hot but not soggy. I went from really struggling to like cabbage to enjoying it after I read someone say "never let cabbage touch water" - ie, don't boil it to death like old school dinners.

HardAsSnails · 14/12/2020 16:21

Coleslaw or thoran (Keralan spiced cabbage stir fry) for white cabbage.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 14/12/2020 16:23

Although, if I had one now I’d probably make kimchi, as we’re almost out!

fallfallfall · 14/12/2020 16:24

Ferment into sauerkraut. Then use with pan fried potatoes or inside grilled cheese sandwiches.
Regular cabbage in Chinese’s stir fries.

sashh · 14/12/2020 16:27

White cabbage I would stir fry with ginger and garlic.

Green cabbage - stuff the leaves with a spicy pork mix, fold up and cover with passatta and bake.

Or I might make timbales.

Blibbyblobby · 14/12/2020 16:27

Baked with cheese and peanuts!

thegcatsmother · 14/12/2020 16:34

Steamed, then finished in a pan with caraway seeds, butter and salt and pepper. I cook a savoy with bacon and creme fraiche, and collard greens with chilli flakes and garlic oil.

Whatsthename · 14/12/2020 16:36

I didn't realise there would be so many responses just about cooking cabbage, thank you so much!

I've never tried roasted cabbage so that'll be interesting to try. I'll be buying cabbage every week to try all of these ideas.
