Which measures would you like to stay in place once Corona is "over"?

I just had to collect a parcel from Currys. I'd ordered online. I received an email, which contained a link; when I arrived at the store, I parked in one of the collection bays, opened the email, clicked the link, and they brought my parcel out. Very smooth and easy. Made me wonder whether they'll keep it in place once Corona measures are gone; I hope they do, because it was very easy!

What other measures do you think should be kept?

Umm none of it thanks!

EnPoinsettia · 14/12/2020 10:34

My chemist delivers prescriptions now.

timeforawine · 14/12/2020 10:34

Sanitiser in shops, based on how much people touch things i think this is good to have.
No more hand shakes, i certainly don't miss that at work!

Baycob · 14/12/2020 10:34

Quiet roads

OhCormoranAllYeFaithful · 14/12/2020 10:36

Sanitisers in shops
Home working/flexibility for all who want it
Click and collect
Using my car less

bigbluebus · 14/12/2020 10:36

@Baycob Not sure where you live but the roads where I live have been back to normal since the end of lockdown 1

Seriouslymole · 14/12/2020 10:37

No two-cheeked business kissing.

Other than that, the whole bloody lot can do one, I'm totally fed up with restrictions and I find not shaking hands very odd in a business environment.

Masks, social distancing, frequent lock downs... it will help stop all the other viruses we all get regularly

ssd · 14/12/2020 10:38

Screens up at tills and at drs receptionists.
I doubt know how many times I've been sneezed on.

ginghamstarfish · 14/12/2020 10:39

I think a lot of the social distancing measures are actually very sensible and it would not be a bad thing if we all continued to keep our distance more, to use hand sanitiser frequently in public areas, and to wear masks if we have colds/flu to protect others. It won't happen though, not in this country at least, given that so many find it too onerous when it is actually a matter of life and death for some.

Laiste · 14/12/2020 10:39

The not having to sign for stuff at the door.

We have about 100 amazon parcels a day (ok exaggeration, but with 5 adults in the house who all like a bit of amazon it feels like it). The guys just leave packages on the doorstep and go to the door when i'm good and ready :)

(we're very rural and there's no chance of anything being nicked)

Seriously? No...you can't be serious.
ScalpHelp · 14/12/2020 10:40

The click and collect at various stores is really good.

Personally I like social distancing on trains. Never having a stranger sit next to me would be great! Same with queues in shops - it’s nice not having people millimetres behind you, as if that will somehow make them get served fasterConfused

Working from home is not something I’m a fan of I’m afraid. As a young adult, I’d happily go back to the office.

I know exactly how many times I've been sneezed on - zero. Who actually sneezes on other people?

If/when they re open it will be nice to have no strangers right next to you or in the row behind you at cinemas.

Ditzyduck · 14/12/2020 10:46

None of it, I want everything to go back to "normal".

The way retail is going you won't even have to drive anywhere to collect your items it will all come to your door. We won't have actual shops.
You do know a lot of retail shops want you to come into stores so you can spend money you weren't going to spend, on items you just see on the shelf. Impulse spending.
I work in retail and a lot of the time customers will expect us to help them to their car with their items but we haven't got enough staff on for one of us to leave the store. We are expected to help and serve customers at the same time. There isn't the hours to put on extra staff just incase a customer doesn't want to carry their shopping.

Hand gel everywhere would be good. Also and end to handshakes/hugs with virtual strangers. Rather than formal social distancing, it would be good if people could continue to respect personal space in queues etc, especially in places where there isn't really any need to actually be touching people around you. I'd also like to see people being comfortable wearing masks if they want to - before it became compulsory, you got the "hard stares" and people pointing/laughing if you were wearing a mask. Oh, and handwashing regularly would also be good. So, basically, just basic hygiene and cleanliness would be a brilliant legacy of the covid year. (Not that it should have taken a pandemic to get people to take cleanliness/hygiene serioiusly)

tofuschnitzel · 14/12/2020 10:50

I'd be happy to continue to wear a mask in public if I had a cold or virus. Hand sanitizer in shops is also really useful.

My husband is a teacher and they are using hand sanitizer and washing their hands throughout the day. Unsurprisingly, he has had less chesty coughs and colds so far this year.

zigaziga · 14/12/2020 10:51

Personally I like social distancing on trains. but that’s just a function of less people travelling on them, there is no way that can possibly continue.

There isn’t much SD on the tube anymore because it’s a bit busier than it has been (thank God!) but I guess the actual squashing and all cramming together won’t be back until spring.

I’m personally liking that most places have had to invest in online booking systems. I don’t like having to book 2 weeks in advance but I guess that’s because capacities have been reduced so much. It will be nice when places can run at full capacity again but we’re also able to book online. I’ve always found turning up at places you can’t pre-book a bit nerve racking in case you travel all that way and it’s too full.

HunterAngel · 14/12/2020 10:52

Distancing while queuing. I hate it when someone gets right up behind so so you can’t breathe without bumping into them.

Better hygiene. I hate when people cough/sneeze into their hand then hand you cash with the same hand! Also bra money. Why on earth do people store cash in their bra then hand it to me all covered in their sweat? I know women’s pockets are tiny but still eww!

Virtual parents evening was fantastic (secondary school) - automatically booked appointments which last exactly 5 minutes so teachers had to get straight to the point. No overrunning or delays. No hanging around in the corridors, no worrying that you will miss your next appointment as the one you are waiting for is running late. I found it straightforward and stress free. Felt more private as well because no way other parents could be listening in. Don't know how it was for the teachers but I suspect regular parents evening is not great for them either!

Springersrock · 14/12/2020 10:57

I like the e-consult that my GP surgery has introduced. No trying for hours to get through, you can send photos if needed, and they call for a telephone appointment or a same day surgery appointment

Also like Zoom parents evenings

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/12/2020 11:00

Ability to work from home - I love being able to do the school run (and not pay for wraparound care!). I don’t want to wfh all the time but it would be nice to wfh 2/3 days a week and be in the office the other 2 days.

Same also different start times at school
