Which measures would you like to stay in place once Corona is "over"?

I just had to collect a parcel from Currys. I'd ordered online. I received an email, which contained a link; when I arrived at the store, I parked in one of the collection bays, opened the email, clicked the link, and they brought my parcel out. Very smooth and easy. Made me wonder whether they'll keep it in place once Corona measures are gone; I hope they do, because it was very easy!

What other measures do you think should be kept?

people not dragging their arses into work when they are poorly - i don't want your germs on a normal year! Employers encouraging this and PAYING sick days properly though, is the actual issue. If everyone had paid sick days and less ridiculous rules surrounding it i am sure people would stay at home if they had a bug!

CoronaIsWatching · 14/12/2020 13:02

app ordering and table service in pubs

RaspberryCoulis · 14/12/2020 13:03

None of it.

Not A SINGLE THING.

Online Gp appointments fine - but not as the default as it's impossible for so many people.

The masks, sanitizer, one way systems with the obligatory monitor hissing at you if you get it wrong, the social distancing and the lack of spontaneity can fuck off to the far side of fuck and never fucking come back.

I am NEVER wearing a mask again the second the law says I don't have to.

Fizbosshoes · 14/12/2020 13:05

Phone apts with the gp. Ours seem much more efficient than before (although obviously still with the option of seeing a gp f2f if necessary.)

I like the emptier trains but they wont stay like that.if people continue to wfh in large numbers the train companies will either cut services, put prices up or both!

megletthesecond · 14/12/2020 13:05

Screens at checkouts. It's not nice working at a till when you get arsey customers.
Masks in winter for those who want to.
People maybe washing their hands regularly.

Wildswim · 14/12/2020 13:06

Agreed.

RaspberryCoulis · 14/12/2020 13:09

@bluechameleon

I prefer how our GP surgery works now. You fill in an online form explaining your problem, then you either get given a face to face appointment or a call back from a doctor. It is much much easier than repeatedly dialling at 8am to try to get an appointment when you might not need one.
And how does this work for people who have no access to "online"?

We were all really ill in February - one by one we were wiped out. So hot you could feel the sweat through pyjamas and fleeces. I slept in the armchair all day when my DD and mate played lego xbox. I Never sleep in front of guests. Don't know if it was C.
Half her classes and teachers were also off at that time in February.
Not been ill since (but worried that I'm too protected so will get it all when I return to office). DD had awful cold in November but I never got it.

Chimeraforce · 14/12/2020 13:12

Agree with wildswim.
I'll be burning mine.

Fizbosshoes · 14/12/2020 13:12

My DDs school day is shorter as they have cut lunch break to 45 min. (Secondary school) I'll be ok if they stick with that.

Fleshlumpeater · 14/12/2020 13:14

Sending the kids into school in their pe kits on pe days. Not had a single lost jumper all year!

Fleshlumpeater · 14/12/2020 13:16

Also the one way system at drop off works very well at our school. The manic scrum we used to endure seems crazy now. Not sure if the school will keep this.

MummaBear4321 · 14/12/2020 13:18

Hand sanitizer in shops.
Home working.
Not having to hug my DHs pervy grandfather.

Europilgrim · 14/12/2020 13:19

I would like to keep my doctor having proper appointments (usually you just have to turn up and wait). Same for our local outdoor cinemas - much easier to be able to book a seat rather than get there an hour earlier.

AlternativePerspective · 14/12/2020 13:21

Reduction in air travel. I live under the Gatwick flight path, and the lack of planes especially first thing in the morning is bloody lovely.

MotherWol · 14/12/2020 13:23

WFH - it's gone from being an on-paper policy in my organisation to reality, and when we do return, it's likely everyone will have at least one WFH day per week.
Booking a slot at visitor attractions - it's so much better than turning up and not being able to get in.
Restaurant at home kits - I love the heat & eat dinners
More people cycling & walking
Low traffic neighbourhoods
People using their parks and outdoor spaces more
Less business travel/lower carbon footprints

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/12/2020 13:23

I’m enjoying food delivery. Less travel, working from home, I’ve done /seen more shows and live performances this year than before as it would normally be too expensive/difficult to travel to see them. Having more online (even once there are live in person performances on) would be great.

ferneytorro · 14/12/2020 13:28

Swimming pools with less people. On holiday in August in Salcombe we went in the public outdoor pool and it was lovely. Went swimming in our local public baths (I've suddenly wondered if calling swimming pools "the baths" is a bit of Northern thing!) this weekend and my daughter and I had a lane to ourselves. Didn't get kicked, splashed or clonked on the head once. Probably swam about 15% less in terms of distance as I didn't have to go round people. I know it's not sustainable but it was a bit nice!

Spudlet · 14/12/2020 13:31

Greater openness to home working
Exercise - I hope all the lockdown joggers keep going and that there’s more awareness of the importance of public health and well-being
More takeaways. We can’t easily eat out as a family due to DS’s asd, so being able to get things like a Sunday roast from the pub is really nice.

NoSleepInTheHeat · 14/12/2020 13:38

Work form home.
Hand sanitizer available in shops etc and widely used.
People washing their hands.
Some distance between people in queues.

ChaBishkoot · 14/12/2020 13:45

WFH
School drop offs and pick ups
Parents evening online.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 14/12/2020 13:49

I really like timed slots at venues like museums/gallaries and zoos. No queuing and not too buy when you get inside. Lots better. Trying to go to the London museums in school holidays before was horrendous.

WhenSheWasBad · 14/12/2020 13:52

Sending my kids to school in their PE kit, so much more sensible and I bet it saves a ton of time and hassle at school.

Work from home for those that can / want to.

Less business travel, actually less travel in general

yawnsvillex · 14/12/2020 13:55

@Bleughbleughbleugh12

Masks, social distancing, frequent lock downs... it will help stop all the other viruses we all get regularly

Will you be paying fo that too? Grin

smallandimperfectlyformed · 14/12/2020 13:58

I have to say I have actually hated all of this and my mental (and physical as I keep overeating therefore becoming even more fat...I am fat!) health has suffered but I do like the children being able to go to school in their PE kits. My children's school already started doing this last year for the older ones to prevent embarrassment at changing times.
