I have no advice except to say that it does get better. My brain is sharper now than it was 10 years ago. I'm 62 and now the only downside is thinning hair Sad

I'm sorry you had such a horrible start in life Flowers

ClinkyMonkey · 14/12/2020 10:26

I just want to sympathiseThanks. I, too, am hoping it is temporary. My memory is scarily bad. My kids find it very amusing when I stop in the middle of a sentence because somehow, five or six words in, I've no idea where I'm going with it. I forget the right words for things and embarrassment (coupled with dodgy hormones) makes me snappy and irritable. My periods stopped a couple of years ago, but the memory lapses have been going on for about 5 years. In saying that, they haven't gotten worse over that time ... just no better!

HRT saved my sanity, sleep and mental abilities! Unless there's some medical reason you can't take it, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Flowers A bad menopause is such a shit life phase.

Valkadin · 14/12/2020 10:41

I had shocking joint pain with menopause, I do have hyper mobility and a slight scoliosis so their a bit rubbish anyway I saw an osteopath a few times as was in agony. Post menopause this has all subsided. My GP reassured me it would all calm down and she was thankfully correct.

Valkadin · 14/12/2020 10:42

Just to add myself and one of my sisters had very itchy inner ears during menopause, it was really irritating that’s also gone now:)

Cosmos45 · 14/12/2020 10:45

There are many things you can do to alleviate the symptoms of menopause. I too had the brain fog and couldn't remember my words and it was so awful (distressing in fact). HRT saved me (quite literally). Can you not book a doctors appointment? Will they not do a telephone or video appointment. Alternatively (not sure of funds etc) you can go privately. Hormone equlibrium was the clinic I went to in lockdown and they did the appointments via video conference and then sent me the prescription in the post.

aliendancing · 14/12/2020 10:46

Thankyou such a hopeful message to all going through this .Menopause is so cruel to a woman when nature starts to take away..i try to do spiritual practices like meditation to remind the self of the beauty within:)

aliendancing · 14/12/2020 10:49

yes the joint pain i think is the bones maybe have extra calcium in the diet ..i know it well though glad to know you are better now. Will try the docs but dont know with lockdown how that will progress..is hrt safe what's in it?

I recommend a book called Your Change Your Choice which looks objectively at HRT and the pros and cons, and suggests lots of lifestyle changes which can help some women. Good luck - it's a difficult time for many but not all women.

Not all GPs are clued up so I do think it pays to be well informed about HRT before seeing a doctor.

SparklingLime · 14/12/2020 10:50

I’m sorry, OP. Have a look at the NICE guidelines. What age are you? www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/ifp/chapter/About-this-information

DameCelia · 14/12/2020 10:52

Yeah @aliendancing the beauty within is great, but she'd be a lot more beautiful (happy, sleeping, working memory) with some HRT, as long as there's no medical reason not to take it.
HRT protects you against a number of medical risks, as well as making life bearable.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 14/12/2020 10:54

Take a look at this website www.menopausematters.co.uk/ it will help answer a lot of your questions.

CaraDuneRedux · 14/12/2020 10:55

HRT comes with very marginally raised risks of some cancers, but current thinking is that these risks are offset by the benefits to your cardiovascular system, improved bone health and reduced risk of dementia

It consists of synthetic oestrogens and progesterones to replace what your body is no longer producing. It is possible to find some preparations which are "bio-identical" ie the same as those your body used to produce naturally.

I can recommend the "menopause matters" website.

aliendancing · 14/12/2020 10:57

yeah is ok i KNOW it's menopause ...periods stopped getting hot sweaty can'y sleep plus m mother went through it at same age

OP posts:
aliendancing · 14/12/2020 11:02

yes for what it is worth I had a very strict regime of morning and nightly deep trancendental meditation plus no caffiene no alcohol nadda fun and eating things like dates instead of sugars or sweetners etc the whole shubang and yes it does work also estrogen rich foods such as linseed and also the mediatation lower stress and stress is number one caus of the platles calcifying or something like this and this is what can also cause memory loss in weomen of a certain age..etc however sometimes life can not be lived like a tibetan monk on a hillside sometimes sh*t life happens and you end up eating pizza and drinking chardonay lol

No real advice OP but I'm not exactly the same.

The other day I was reading an article about something being full blown while talking to my DD (17) about her phone not working properly.

I asked her if it was just some people she couldn't blow, or if she couldn't blow anyone at all.

Then we laughed for about 20 minutes Grin

bigfluffyblanket · 14/12/2020 11:20

I meant I am exactly the same, sorry

trumpisaflump · 14/12/2020 11:21

There are hundreds of symptoms of menopause but we don't have to put up with these! Speak to your GP about HRT. The oestrogen will help most menopausal symptoms.

oneglassandpuzzled · 14/12/2020 11:22

I tried all the healthy living, diet, exercise, magnets, red clover, etc. I actually have a healthy lifestyle anyway and am not overweight, and was regularly exercising. I also tried accupuncture.

The only thing that really made me feel better was oestrogen gel. The most distressing symptoms were actually the mental ones: the slowness of brain processing, etc.

OverTheRubicon · 14/12/2020 11:35

You can still talk to your doctor about this in lockdown, and they will.see you in person if needed. It sounds like a lot is going on for you right now, I'd really recommend calling your GP.

tinselfest · 14/12/2020 11:38

Yes, do call and speak to your GP.

user1471538283 · 14/12/2020 13:21

I understand it is awful. I had night sweats, loss of memory, aching, bad temper and feeling down. I am now on HRT and honestly it saved me. I was prescribed it in a telephone consultation although ideally you should go in so you can have your weight etc checked. You may have to ask for it more than once

aliendancing · 14/12/2020 15:22

yes had a similar situation very embarassing but me and my son laughed
