If you have a spin bike at home - how often do you use it?

I just started hoping spinning before the first lockdown and it's the only exercise I've not hated. I was starting to get fitter and was losing some weight.

Even when the gym re-opened they weren't doing classes and lockdown hasn't been kind to my weight!

I'm thinking about getting a spin bike but wondering how much I'll use it and whether a £350 one will be anywhere near as sturdy as the ones in the gym?

@User9574

Its used daily to store my fit ball between the seat and handlebars :)

I was just thinking I will start to use it now as I am SO bored of doing the same local walk. Spin is quicker.

I spent about 250 5 years ago, main consideration was a comfy seat and good resistance.

Haha - im signing up for online classes to hopefully keep me interested.

I have no energy and I'm sluggish all the time - way too much sitting down!

@Workyticket Did you get your bike? And the Les Mills subscription? The Trip is my favourite of their cycle classes. I have my ipad on a mount on the handlebars. I also mix it up with a bit of Studio Sweat - they have some free classes on YouTube. I also have the bitgym app for some scenic rides - there's about 8 that are free without subscribing.

I bought a spin bike on Amazon in summer for around £400, has a 22kg fly wheel so it’s not so bad. I use the peloton app, I use it around 2-3 times a week when gym is closed for lockdowns/tiers!

This is the bike I got, I read a lot and heard the JLL bikes were quite good.
Gonna give les mills The Trip a try, sounds like quite a few people are enjoying that!

I have the JTX Cyclo 6 and absolutely love it but it has taken some time! I bought it for myself in April 2019 after DD was born but it lives out in the garage so I couldn't go out when she was napping and too exhausted in the evenings. I was also using YouTube videos which were completely uninspiring. In September I got the Peloton app initially for the Yoga but ended up giving the spinning a try and absolutely loved it. I have joined the UKPelotonLadies Facebook group which is good fun and very supportive (there are lots of people who use the app and a non-Peloton spin bike). The only thing I bought was a Wahoo cadence sensor so I could follow along with the instructors. I spin about 4 times a week and have noticed a huge difference not only to my fitness but to my mental health during this homeschooling, pandemic, lockdown situation.

@20polexiaaphrodesia - I have the same bike as you :-) How easy is it to attach the cadence sensor and do you have to link it to your phone rather than the bike display? Just wondering how you've managed to set it up?

polexiaaphrodesia · 31/01/2021 14:40

@Todaywillbegood really easy - you can either use zip ties to attach it (which come with the sensor) or they also provide double sided tape which is what I used. Mine is stuck to the inside of my pedal so I dont knock it with my foot or leg when riding and it is automatically picked up by the Peloton app.

@polexiaaphrodesia Brilliant, thank you!

We have a spin bike on loan from our gym which is currently shut. They offered all their members the lain for £30/month plus £100 deposit. Seemed like too good a deal to refuse for a Technogym spin bike, that we can send back when we can go to classes again. We also have a treadmill and a standard exercise bike, as I quite like passing an hour or two watching a film while cycling as its quieter than the other equipment
