I’m a teacher so I have to keep going but I’m tempted to pull DD out of nursery so even if my bubble pops she can still do Christmas activities with her dad and the family members in our Christmas bubble. Just wondering what other people are thinking.

I was tempted to but I don’t think I will. I know they’re looking forward to the Christmas performance and other Christmas activities with their friends.

RosieLemonade · 12/12/2020 11:50

Yes she is excited for the party etc. I know she will have other years at school but I hate the thought of her missing out but she will be missing out on even more if her bubble pops. If mine pops it’s workable but I’ll be gutted if hers does.

I’m keeping DD in nursery; she’ll miss out on all the Christmas activities and if I took her out then we had to cancel Christmas plans due to DH or my sister (who is coming for Christmas) needing to isolate I’d feel bad she’d missed everything

God no. Hadn’t even occurred to me tbh.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 12/12/2020 11:55

I’ve had the thought. DD wouldn’t want to, but I am weighing 4 days of pre Xmas school vs the health of elderly MIL.

LER83 · 12/12/2020 11:55

Really tempted. Its only my reception child in as eldests bubble have to self isolate until friday, my dds year is off due to lack of staff and won't be back until Jan, so really seems pointless dragging him in. (All same school.) If he doesn't go it also means we will definitely be able to see my parents for christmas. Youngest has autism so has really struggled to understand why he hasn't been able to see them.

Meowmeow2020 · 12/12/2020 11:56

No. We have already planned to stay home with just us at xmas anyway.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/12/2020 11:58

No, DS has already had a self-isolation stint, that he's still playing catch up for (despite doing lots of schoolwork while he was off), so he doesn't want to miss any more. We've pulled him out of a couple of extra curricular activities though to minimise risk of getting identified as a close contact.

PinkFondantFancy · 12/12/2020 11:59

Absolutely not. They've missed far too much school and time with their friends already

CountFosco · 12/12/2020 11:59

No. DD2 has just gone back to school after her bubble burst. But we're only seeing DBro over the holidays and he's young, wealthy and in good health so his risk of dying is tiny so any bubbles popping will not have an impact (DH, I and DBro all WFH so unlikely to get exposed except by the DC).

AdditionalCharacter · 12/12/2020 12:03

@CountFosco but if your child has to self isolate for 10 days, that means they can't go anywhere or meet anyone.

I am tempted, but not sure I'll go ahead with it.

2beautifulbabs · 12/12/2020 12:04

I was tempted too but my sons nursery closes on Tuesday and Monday they have a little party disco so I figured I would let him go for the last two days next week as none of us know what next year holds and he's already been on and off with the start of nursery this year.

TeddyIsaHe · 12/12/2020 12:04

I’m taking Dd out of nursery next Wednesday, so we’ve got 10 days between Xmas. My parents own residential care homes and are very hands on so I can’t risk them catching anything and passing it on to their residents.

Thankfully we have a supply of the 30 min tests so should be as safe as possible when we go to theirs.

unicornparty · 12/12/2020 12:06

No. Not even considering it.

MrsDThomas · 12/12/2020 12:17

My 12 yr old will Be online only be next week. And the primary schools in the county will close on Wednesday

Same here
ComDummings · 12/12/2020 12:20

Nah

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/12/2020 12:25

No, I’m keeping mine in, there have been no cases in their school thus far and the head teacher is absolutely scrupulous about hygiene and COVID procedures. They’re as safe there as they are anywhere.

Camomila · 12/12/2020 12:27

no - my dad works at DS1s primary, and MIL works in a hospital!

TeenPlusTwenties · 12/12/2020 12:31

I'm still trying to get DD back in to school.

Fedup21 · 12/12/2020 12:35

I’m seriously considering it. 2/3 of mine are off school having to SI anyway until the end of term. The thought of getting another phone call about DC3 having to do it on Friday 18th, would just about finish me off

underneaththeash · 12/12/2020 12:37

DS is in year 10 and they have a lot of catching up from last term still to do, so definitely not. My other 2 have finished.

ImAllOut · 12/12/2020 12:39

The Welsh government made the decision for us all, how generous! Attendance was down to 60% in many primary schools in my area last week anyway so I assume it would've been even lower this week without the new plans. Ours close on Wednesday now, some local authorities closed theirs on Friday.

Angel2702 · 12/12/2020 12:42

I was going to as my yr 10 was already isolating and the cases at their school were outrageous. There were only half of yr 7 left in school so they closed whole school on Thursday night.

My 9yr old has only had 2 cases since they went back in September so she is staying in school.

walksen · 12/12/2020 12:43

Either way I'm dreading cases in school next week.

On Wednesday we had y9 told to isolate until the 20th and some were happy about it; even though it was the fifth self isolation for one.

On the other hand a pupil with a cough was in class and another was in floods of tears thinking about having to self isolate over Christmas.

I will feel very sorry for any kids sent home to isolate next week. It will happen to hundreds maybe even thousands of families unfortunately ( nationwide that is)
