I accidentally spent £100 on booze

Whoops. I have a Tesco delivery coming today which I was going to cancel as I managed to do my weekly (and choc full of healthy, and nutritious food only) shop yesterday. They’ve 25% off 6 bottles of wine at the mo’ so I’d flung in 12 bottles of low calorie fizzy wine to amuse myself before I cancelled the order. Oh yeah, I’m not smart sometimes...

Only I forgot to cancel the order didnt I??? Woke up at 7am with the dreaded realisation! At 10 they’re bringing me my booze. And I bet you’re thinking, ‘don’t worry - they’ll make lovely gifts’ but the low calorie aspect means actually they’d kind of be an insult if I regifted them!

I live on my own and only drink in company so it’ll be ages before I get through this lot! How long does fizzy wine even keep for...?

Anyone else hate those ‘omg, I’m a twat’ moments...?

Ps: it’s not the end of the world all this btw. I’m luckily financially comfortable but normally a bit thrifty so whilst I’m annoyed at myself,
it won’t mean I have to turn off the heating or sell the Xmas turkey.

Just drink it

TillyTopper · 12/12/2020 08:50

My DP reserved a slot with 50 pints of milk. Then forgot to update the order and it turned up!

PurplebakedDinosaur · 12/12/2020 08:54

fizzy wine lasts forerver- and gets even better. Seriously- we still have fizz from our wedding (to be fair, DH thought 6 bottles per person was a good idea) and it gets better every year. 16 years now.

Please try and ring the store so the driver knows you don’t want it. They are so busy and it’ll save them wasting time and energy (12 hotties aren’t light) on a pointless delivery.

They’ll refund you.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 12/12/2020 09:13

What is low calorie wine? Does it contain alcohol?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 12/12/2020 09:18

If the driver won't take it, Just take it to a store and return it, you'll probably get a gift card for the store instead of your money back.

People return all sorts of crap to supermarkets you won't be the first or last

I imagine low calorie wine is also low alcohol, and probably low quality in wine stakes too. Doubt it's winning any wine awards

As has already been said... Tesco let you import your groceries from a previous shop. I always do that, so on the occasion, I sleep through and forget to change my shop, the stuff that turns up is still mostly what I wanted.

Re the poster who said they couldn't get a weekend slot - are you a delivery saver customer? If not, that's your answer. You'll have to pay more for better access to slots.

The amount of champagne and gin I now own this year from blocking slots and forgetting about them! We’ve been congratulated many times by the drivers when they walk up to the house with one bottle 😱

kirktonhouse · 12/12/2020 09:35

I use a single banana to secure tesco's. I've failed twice in 15 years of online shopping. The first time they phoned me to see if I really did want a single banana, the second time I realised on the day and cancelled with a phonecall.

Wauden · 12/12/2020 09:36

You could pass them on to me. Happy to help. Xmas Grin

Eckhart · 12/12/2020 09:40

They don't say 'you can't cancel your order' because they won't refund it, they say it because their systems aren't sophisticated enough to send messages to the picking/packing/delivery teams after your order has been sent to them.

It's much easier on their systems to just do the delivery and then refund anything anybody didn't want afterwards. They can't refuse to take the products back - they've never been out of Tesco's possession, so, clearly haven't been tampered with, and they know it's your payment details they've got.

People screw up all the time. I know someone who ordered one mushroom and nothing else for delivery!

PompomDahlia · 12/12/2020 11:09

Not to be a killjoy but it really annoys me when people do this, given how difficult it is to get shopping slots currently and someone more vulnerable could have used that delivery. On Ocado there is an instant shop feature so you can add your favourites with one click, or re-order your last delivery. That way you can hold your slot quickly but still get useful stuff if you forget to change it

wowfudge · 12/12/2020 19:07

PompomDahlia when you can't get a slot other than weeks ahead how the hell will you know what you want to buy that week? You can be annoyed all you like, but who are you to judge who should get a delivery slot?
