That we’re all doomed.

On mn that being married makes you your dh “next of kin” and you can then make medical decisions about them. Also that being married to someone stops them changing their will or disinheriting their spouse. Quite a few marriage myths on mn.

That a person (a man, usually) can be abusive, disinterested, uncaring, selfish and generally a complete dickhead without being Autistic.

@Graphista

You are very welcome to add, tbh I was surprised I stopped so soon.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/12/2020 07:45

That anyone who’s thoroughly selfish/bone idle/just plain nasty, must therefore have MH ‘issues’.
To be fair I only really see this on MN though.

That everyone in the South East is middle class and well off.

@DioneTheDiabolist

That "terrorists" are evil.
That there is such a thing as a "terrorist". They are murdering bastards and usually male.

Just another example of male violence. Don't dignify them with a cause.

ChildOfFriday · 11/12/2020 08:03

That you get priority for admission for state schools in England if you list them first on your preference form. There are still people who try to say "X school fills up with people who put it first" and "that's how it is in my area", when the equal preference system has been law across England for many years.

wellthatsunusual · 11/12/2020 09:03

That there is a 'UK education system' instead of four separate systems.

That Uncle Boris is a good guy who knows best, and that everything he says is the gospel truth.

Ditto "Call me Tony" Blair, when he was the PM.

You can hold that position. And many people are complete pacifists. But do you include the ANC (Nelson Mandela), the Sandinistas (Daniel Ortega), The French resistance, the Tibetan resistance against Chinese rule? If you only include people who commit acts of terror against YOU, or change what you think depending on who is being oppressed by whom, that's less tenable.

And then you get into weird 'freedom fighter'/'contra' issues with foreign intervention in countries. Who is the 'terrorist'? The Sandinista or the contra? Or both? Or neither? They both committed terrorist acts. They were both on the side of the 'people' according to them. And both could argue that they were fighting against an evil, oppressive regime at one point or another.

This issue doesn't come up if you believe that no armed conflict is ever justified. There is no Good War. But if you don't, many things are a matter of perspective.

@EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire

That employers are not allowed to give a bad reference. Not true but so many people seem to think it.
Of course they are. It just has to factual. X worked from date to date. We ended her employment for x, y and a.

This is a bad reference but allowed.

onlythepianoplayer · 11/12/2020 15:04

That it's very dangerous for a woman to walk around on her own at night

I can assure that it can be very dangerous. It's not exactly a myth Hmm

There's quite a bit of ethno centrism in these remarks. And some daftness as well.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 11/12/2020 15:05

That marriage is "just a piece of paper".
