Does everyone have this problem with girls tights?

That they have to spend all day pulling them back up??
Or is it just my dds (4&7)?

Same, my 4yo has long legs but tiny waist so we really struggle to get tights that are both long enough and stay up! But she always prefers them with a skirt over her school trousers so it mustn't bother her too much.

Plonque · 09/12/2020 09:16

Well I suppose it depends on a couple of factors, quality of the tights and wether they have really got anything to cling to. My DDs are very straight up and down, as I'm sure a lot of young girls are. Cheap elastic won't find much purchase on a bean pole.

StormyInTheNorth · 09/12/2020 09:19

Yeah, mine has longish legs and a sizeable girth, 84th centile so she still looks like barrell. She just wears trousers at school when it is cold. You can get soft jersey all round elastic ones.

Also, quality. I find the thick lycra ones stay up rather than cotton ones.

Scarby9 · 09/12/2020 09:19

I have very clear memories of my mum picking me up by my tights to try to shake me back into them!
I was stick thin as a child and they never sttayed up.

dancemom · 09/12/2020 09:20

Pair of firm pants over the top to hold them up

midgebabe · 09/12/2020 09:21

I still have the problem. Nora batty.

INeedNewShoes · 09/12/2020 09:23

DD is skinny and the best tights we've had by a mile are Jojo Maman tights.

We've had others from John Lewis, M&S, supermarkets and none have stayed up as well as the Jojo tights.

Bamaluz · 09/12/2020 09:23

Leggings instead of tights is an easier option, recommended by a friend who is an infant school teacher .
She sees this problem constantly.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/12/2020 09:23

I found a size bigger solved it.

Cupcakegirl13 · 09/12/2020 09:24

I’ve found paying a bit more for M&S helped as opposed to cheaper supermarket ones and I also buy a couple of sizes bigger , I also stretch them whilst they are still wet and never tumble dry them.

Rowenberryjelly · 09/12/2020 09:24

Yep. Tried various supermarket ones and they all fall down constantly. Recently got some cable knit ones from M&S and they are much better.

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2020 09:25

I buy a bigger size but find the m and s ones get a hole in after the first wear Angry

GreyishDays · 09/12/2020 09:25

Yeah to leggings. DD wore them till she was ten, with same coloured socks.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/12/2020 09:26

I have this problem these days! I never used to so not have to wear a second pair of pants over them!

AdventureCode · 09/12/2020 09:26

Yep, ive tried every thing, they now get pulled up to her ribcage when she wears them 😁. She doesnt like wearing trousers so as a compromise, like above she'll sometimes wear black leggings under her skirt instead on extra cold days.

Scarby9 · 09/12/2020 09:27

@dancemom A second pair of pants over the top was expressly forbidden when I went to secondary school - and was checked along with other bits of our uniform . Banned on hygiene grounds...

Throwntothewolves · 09/12/2020 09:27

Yep. Still do to an extent. I'm quite tall and slim built. I have never fitted the 'correct' size of tights. My suggestions are to buy bigger than needed for the length, or to put pants or shorts over the top of them. Another alternative is footless tights, but she would need to wear socks so she might not like that.

snookercue · 09/12/2020 09:29

None of mine ever wore tights for that very reason. Odd, unnecessary and uncomfortable item of clothing imo.

hauntedvagina · 09/12/2020 09:30

Tights first, then pants. I still do this now. Makes me feel like Superman.

purpleme12 · 09/12/2020 09:31

Yes we have this problem!
I made a thread years ago on this
My child is thin too got a small waist and if we went bigger size they'd be too long and too wide on the waist
But in my opinion they should be made to stay up anyway!!
It's got to the point where she'll only wear leggings or jeans now cos of it
(Apart from school she hates trousers for school so puts up with tights till it gets warmer)
I'm sorry but they must be made wrong

@INeedNewShoes I've just looked on jojomaman but they seem to stop at 5-6

grey12 · 09/12/2020 09:32

@puppygalore DD1 had the same problem. The ones from Next seem to be good Wink

LutinDeSapin · 09/12/2020 09:32

You have to buy tights for the length not clothing size - that's why they usually have a table on the back of the packet. I'm an 8, but need L or XL for the length. It's always been like that. If the tights are then too wide, put a couple of stitches in the waistband.

grey12 · 09/12/2020 09:34

@snookercue DD only wears trousers for school but it's freaking cool now!!! So she needs to wear thighs under the trousers. They keep the door open so the kids can play outside if they wish to. How many more layers do I have add??!!! Confused

Juk3 · 09/12/2020 09:35

My dd use to have this problem now they wear a black pair of cotton boxer shorts from the boys section over the top. The fitted trunk type solved the issue instantly my eldest is in year 10 now and still wears the boxers to keep her school tights up.

I wasn't suggesting you did anything. I was talking about my children and my opinion of them wearing tights. I'm not making any judgment on people who's children wear tights.
