How to keep feet warm for under desk?

BinkyBoinky · 08/12/2020 12:21

My desk faces an outside wall so my toes are like ice, even with the heating on! Even with thick socks my toes are cold :(

Been using a hot water bottle but it keeps falling off my feet! Any suggestions specifically for feet will be greatly appreciated.. Prefer something I don't have to plug in, but will consider it too. TIA

These are v ugly but, because they cover my ankles, they seem to keep my feet toasty: www.gumbies.co.uk/collections/brumby-boots

OP have you tried merino wool socks rather than cotton or nylon? That might help too.

Bizarrely, I find the thing that really helps me keep warm is having my neck and wrists covered.

CMOTDibbler · 08/12/2020 12:29

Thermal boots - I have a pair which are my slippers

LutinDeSapin · 08/12/2020 12:33

You need something with thick soles. Boots or fleece lined crocs.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 08/12/2020 12:34

Hmm link doesn’t work, type sweet dreams electric footwarmer into Amazon.

No idea how good they are myself but worth considering.

carnations23 · 08/12/2020 12:34

heat holders socks?

Iggly · 08/12/2020 12:35

I have a real sheepskin rug under my feet. Works a treat

Mrgrinch · 08/12/2020 12:37

UGG boots

ParadiseLaundry · 08/12/2020 12:37

When I worked I am office and had cold feet I used to put the laminator under my desk and and put my feet on them to keep them warm! When I changed jobs and there was no laminator I bought a fan heater for about £5 from Argos and just kept that on them all the time.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/12/2020 12:38

I usually have socks and slippers on. North Face tent mules are cosy, even if expensive and quite ugly.

No compliant pets to sleep below your desk and rest your feet on?

ParadiseLaundry · 08/12/2020 12:39

Sorry was so excited about my laminator story I completely neglected to read the rest of your post! My apologies. What about those little hand warmers you can put in gloves, they last about 8 hours.

gretagreengrapes · 08/12/2020 12:40

Natural fibres are key. You can wrap your feet in loads of layers of plastic and polyester but they'll never be warm! Sheepskin slippers (sheepers, ugg etc) and wool socks will make your warm feet dreams come true!
Same for blankets, cotton & wool not acrylic!

Watto1 · 08/12/2020 12:40

Can you still get the one massive slipper that you put your two feet into? Usually found in catalogues that cater for the elderly!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/12/2020 12:42

A Labrador. Never fails.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/12/2020 12:44

Put your feet on top of the hot water bottle and lay a blanket over the top.

GreyishDays · 08/12/2020 12:44

Slippers, or rest your feet on top of the hot water bottle. And chuck a blanket on top.

InsanityOf2020 · 08/12/2020 12:45

I have some lovely thick thermal socks ... they are perfect for freezing feet

BinkyBoinky · 08/12/2020 12:47

Thanks for your suggestions.. I will look into all those, I have thick fluffy socks but not merino wool so will look at those. If mountain climbers wear them then they must do something for me! Grin

I've also been googling and found this, not sure how good it will be but looks cute and I can plug it into my computer under my desk: www.amazon.co.uk/Fdit-Electric-Warmer-Heated-Cushion/dp/B07LB1H5NC/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&smid=A3HWK0EOY0E024&psc=1&keywords=foot+warmer+pad+usb&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMThaQzNDNUtVN0hQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDE3MTU2MUQxVzJRNDVZOTJPTyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzIwNzQzM0tUNUxESTJUQ0VMNCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1607430606&sr=8-2-spons

@BarbaraofSeville I wish I had a pet! I dream of a lovely fluffy ginger cat willing to wrap itself around my feet :)

hot water bottle slippers might be what you are looking for

altforvarmt · 08/12/2020 12:48

Electric slipper. Totally life-changing. You may not want to leave your desk.

Wool socks, slippers and hot water bottle

FadedRed · 08/12/2020 12:49

You need a “Big Slipper” immortalised by Billy Connelly. You can buy ones with a hot water bottle insert, electrical heating or massaging that plug into the mains.

BusterTheBulldog · 08/12/2020 12:51

I have an electric heat mat under my desk- it has changed my wfh life! So toasty!

BinkyBoinky · 08/12/2020 12:52

Yes, I've seen those on Amazon. I remember those in the Argos catalogue when I was a kid, thinking they were really sad. I'm not quite at granny level now though they're starting to appeal!

I don't think you'd get much heat out of a USB version. I think it could only keep your feet warm, but not warm them up if you're cold. You'd definitely want one with a plug.

I got mine from either Aldi or Lidl at a very reasonable price, but they don't keep them in stock. They're available on Amazon too.
