If you saw a young adolescent male with long hair (past shoulders), rose gold glasses, and a pink coat what would think? Honestly.

TooTrueToBeGood · 04/12/2020 22:06

I'd think he was possibly a John Lennon fan. Actually, I probably wouldn't think anything at all.

BillieBlack · 04/12/2020 22:07

He’s 13. He’s autistic and can’t cope with shops at all, and also will meltdown if given too much choice. So he describes to me his ideal outfit then I’m tasked with finding it!

He is very arty. He has quite a few pink shirts already but apparently a coat is ‘a step too far’.

Nothing really.

Everything is different for all the younger ones today they can do whatever they want fashion wise.

pinkdragons · 04/12/2020 22:16

If he looked cool I'd think to myself "hey, good for you, you look cool. Wish I could look interesting"

If he looked dawky or not so great I'd think
"Hope he doesn't get given a hard time for that outfit. Hope he grows in to his style".

I am 30 now but teens wouldn't have made a song and dance about this when I was at secondary school. Apparently they're even more accepting now. My 17 yo sis would think nothing at all of a boy dressing in a feminine way. She's very 'woke'.

CoronaBollox · 04/12/2020 22:23

I would think arty, confident and I like the sound of the glasses.

There is no point denying that some people will assume too girly etc but it sounds like your DS knows what he likes and isnt afraid to show it, which is good.

karmadramallama · 04/12/2020 22:30

I'd possibly be jealous of the coat and the.ability to carry off long hair.

alexdgr8 · 04/12/2020 22:34

oh, i wouldn't describe a 13 year old boy as an adolescent male, so i had a different picture in my mind.
for whom is a pink coat a step too far.
is he able to handle himself, ie punch back if necessary.
if not, how about self-defence lessons, if you think bullying is a problem.
it's up to him really, about the clothes. i have no exp of autism.

Krampusnacht · 04/12/2020 22:39

I'd think he looked like an interesting and artistic young lad! My DS had long hair and wore dye T-shirt's at that age that he'd made himself. This was only 3 years ago. He's a bit more mainstream now but not much! Still very flamboyant and artsy.

BillieBlack · 04/12/2020 22:41

He looks older than 13, more like 15/16. He has been bullied his whole life so he says he is not bothered as he is used to it. My main concern is recently someone told him he was trans which made him think maybe he was. I explained to him that loving the colour pink didn’t make him trans in the same way that my favourite colour being blue doesn’t make me a man.

yaboo · 04/12/2020 22:46

I might think 'he looks nice'. Or, 'That shade really suits him', or 'I like seeing boys make an effort'.

WorraLiberty · 04/12/2020 22:50

I'd probably think he was into John Lennon or the Beatles as my DS went through a similar phase of dressing that way.

He was never bullied but he had a few sneery remarks from some of his peers and they just rolled off him like water off a duck.

If your DS isn't bothered then no-one else should be. He should be allowed to dress how he pleases and if he does get bullied, be there to support him and help deal with that.

Nomnomarrgh · 04/12/2020 23:04

I’d smile and remember my young days of dressing in whatever I wanted before I became a boring old fart

MalingeringMary · 04/12/2020 23:27

There was a lad who only wore pink in my group when we were teens. Dreadlocks (dyed pink), pink cords, pink t shirts... The only reason I remember him at all is because he didn't wear shoes, ever. THAT was strange, the pink was fine! (Going back 20 years, he wears shoes now)

baubling · 04/12/2020 23:34

I'd probably think "Now there's someone who knows their style."
It takes determination and character to wear what you want and to hell with what everyone thinks. Seeing him would brighten my day. Smile

PickAChew · 04/12/2020 23:36

It wouldn't register. I live near a fe college in a university city.

Round rose gold glasses flatter very few, mind.

FunTimes2020 · 05/12/2020 00:00

He sounds lovely OP, with his unique style .
Regarding the coat, how about this one?

What’s your honest opinion...
pallisers · 05/12/2020 01:00

absolutely nothing. Well if I noticed him I might admire his styling. But I grew up in the 70s/80s. everything seems so much more uniform/gendered these days.

My favourite memory of my dd's graduation ceremony at her "progressive" high school in the US is the rag tag/individualistic procession of the kids on the day. They held hands and were wearing everything from the usual new england prep school graduation uniform of white dresses and suits to kilts, full tuxes, a ballgown, and everything in between.

Downunderduchess · 05/12/2020 02:15

I would notice, as I love observing different styles. It sounds like a look I would compliment someone on. I often give a compliment to a stranger if I notice something (nice dress, pretty makeup, cool t-shirt etc.), most people are chuffed at the comment.

BaNsh · 05/12/2020 02:18

I would think he is gay or trans or has some identity and sexuality crisis. I would think he must have hippy parents, maybe he self harms and has mental illness.

Downunderduchess · 05/12/2020 02:21

@BaNsh- what?? You can’t possibly think that?

ButterMeUpScotty · 05/12/2020 02:29

I would notice but would honestly think to myself, I hope no arsehole bullies that young guy, because I know people can be twats. And if it suited him and was a nice coat I would also think oooh that looks nic, wish I wore colour!

ButterMeUpScotty · 05/12/2020 02:29

*Looks nice

1forAll74 · 05/12/2020 02:34

He is probably into fashion design, or arty stuff. or even a trendy hairdresser, but that look would brighten up the dull days of late.

thosetalesofunexpected · 05/12/2020 02:39

Hi Op..

I would think that guy is a student artistic into alternative side of things in life such as alternative music/arts scene ,

I would think a free thinker, on the quiky bit of unconvential side..
