Two I can remember Sixth Sense and The Perfect Storm.

BefuddledPerson · 04/12/2020 07:42

Yes, but I don't care really so I read things about films before watching by choice.

squashyhat · 04/12/2020 07:50

Not specifically, but I went to the cinema to see a film which had been out for a few weeks, to find myself sitting next to a woman who started to explain the story to her two kids loudly before it had even begun. When I objected her excuse was that it had been out a while so most people would have known the plot! Well no - that's why I came to see it. Fortunately the cinema was pretty empty so I moved out of earshot. Stupid cow.

ScandiCrimeFan · 04/12/2020 07:51

Oh yes, both DP and MIL can’t help themselves. If I say “I’m thinking of watching film X, have you seen it, is it good?” they think an appropriate response is “great film, I couldn’t believe that the dog was the murderer all along”.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 04/12/2020 07:57

My DM is known for it. Apparently her DF used to refuse to watch films with her as she had done it so often!

Littlebelina · 04/12/2020 08:04

Skyfall. By French and Saunders on the radio over Xmas (it had been released oct that year so hadn't made dvd yet). We had a small child at time so hadn't got to cinema to see it so we're quite pissed off. Now if it's a film we really want to see we find babysitters or go separately (or did when you could go to cinema Sad)

My Mum is a terror for this. Will happily tell the endings of books, TV shows and movies even when I've said I don't want to know! But then she's the type who'll skip to the end of a book before she's read the middle.
I only got really angry when she told me a F1 result when I'd been waiting to watch it due to other commitments. I'd not been looking at the news, I'd been sensible then she blurts out "Oh, Jensen Button overtook Vettel on the last lap!"
Whyyyyyy? She knew I didn't want to know!
She also told me Little Dorrit dies, but then she didn't in the TV adaption. Confused face.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 04/12/2020 08:14

Probably but I don't mind, I read spoilers and plot summaries anyway.

Are we long lost siblings? My mum is the exact same!

To be honest, I find it a bit childish when people make a big deal of ‘spoilers’, whether it’s books, sports or films etc. I mean, are you only in it to find out the plot twist?

I teach a module on the Gothic novel and have had students complain that I ‘spoiled’ the ending of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca in my first lecture on it. It was published in 1938 and had been on their reading list since the previous June, but I genuinely think some of them were expecting me to say, like the sports results announcer on the six o’clock news, ‘Please leave the room before I disclose key plot details from the second part.’

Mrsjayy · 04/12/2020 09:31

DD spoiled the first new Star wars.she said ooo X fell off a bridge to his deathShock. I felt like punching her!

DownWhichOfLate · 04/12/2020 09:41

I can’t find it at the moment but I read about a film - think it was Star Wars - that had released its film soundtrack before the film came out at the cinema. The final music track on the album was gave away the film ending! (Something among the lines of X’s funeral march). I’ll have a Google.

Littlegoth · 04/12/2020 09:47

I have a close relative who not only ruins the endings (‘oh watch this, he gets gassed at the end’) but ruins every plot event 2 minutes before it happens (watch this bit, there’s a man with a gun in there waiting for him). I refuse to watch new (to me) films with them now.

Littlegoth · 04/12/2020 09:48

I’ve unfriended people on Facebook for ruining films 😂

SquitMcJit · 04/12/2020 09:50

Why are some people actually spoiling film endings on here tho Hmm ?

MichelleBauble · 04/12/2020 09:54

Not a film, but a football one.

MIL babysat for us one night and we specifically told her not to mention the football result when we got back as we would be watching the highlights. It was an England World Cup game.

When we got home we again reminded her not to mention the football. She said that she wouldn't dream of mentioning the score but..."it was such a shame to see England go out like that" Confused

ShipshapeShore · 04/12/2020 09:58

My sister gleefully announced a lot of Peaky Blinders spoilers before I managed to watch it.

SlightDrizzle · 04/12/2020 09:58

Because anyone who hasn’t seen The Sixth Sense or Titanic clearly has coped without seeing them since 1999 and 1997?
IhateBoswell · 04/12/2020 10:10

My friend told me how good Seven was and then told me what was in the box.

NoMeatIsHumane · 04/12/2020 10:15

There was a great scene in The Simpsons of a young Homer and Marge walking out of the cinema past the next queue of people waiting to go in and Homer says loudly "I can't believe Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father!"
The line collectively groans....

SlightDrizzle · 04/12/2020 10:16

@IhateBoswell

My friend told me how good Seven was and then told me what was in the box.
But did she tell you this when it had just appeared in cinemas, or last week?

This thread has just made me realise I’ve never in fact seen The Sixth Sense, but have known the plot twist for a good 20 years. Ditto The Village, The Prestige, Shutter Island, The Wicker Man.

IhateBoswell · 04/12/2020 10:21

It was about a week after it came out SlightDrizzle, I was going to watch it myself.

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/12/2020 10:26

I still haven't forgiven my colleague for dropping a massive spoiler about avengers endgame about 7 hours before I was due to see it. I had purposely stayed off social media etc and the twat opened her big mouth in the staff room.

nitsandwormsdodger · 04/12/2020 10:27

Wife does this all the time , assumes I've watched as many films as her...
