Please let it be a white Christmas

I live in Northern Ireland and I’d absolutely love some snow this Christmas, I hate driving in it but I love the look of it and the atmosphere it creates and I think it’d be lovely to end of the year we’ve all had.

Anyone else want it to snow this year?

Honestly OP, no. I get the sentiment and it does look lovely and festive but I do think it's a bit gauche to wish for snow when there are people sleeping in the streets, increased accidents on the road and so many peoples loved ones driving who need to get to work.

DP leaves at 4am daily to do a 45 minute mostly rural drive, I would prefer for his sake and my sanity and for all those others who are outside through no fault of their own that this winter reminds as mild as possible. We aren't living in a christmas film, albeit I wish we were!

Yes I'd love it to snow!! Snowman ⛄️

But while we are wishing, I'll request clear roads for anyone needing to use them!

Please not, dp has to pick up his dd on Christmas Eve as she's spending the time with us

Snow where we are today, so now I have the opposite problem - toddler is delighted but keeps saying it's Christmas!

CormoranStrike · 04/12/2020 07:39

No - DD is a key worker who has to travel on country roads on Christmas Day, so no snow please.

Retiremental · 04/12/2020 07:53

No because we are utterly ridiculously incompetent in the UK when it comes to keeping the country actually moving when there’s even the smallest amount of snow. For the many people working in healthcare, emergency services ( and possibly hospitality) on Christmas day, it’s a complete pain in the butt.

LadyCatStark · 04/12/2020 08:04

It’s a yes pleeeeease from me! I’ve just ordered XS a sledge and a snow scooter just in case. We’re coastal though so I think we’ll have to go looking for snow! It’s meant to be an El Niño year so it’s our best chance.

We haven’t had proper snow since 2010 most children won’t even remember it.

Gilead · 04/12/2020 08:14

We have snow today. My prescription needs collecting. Bugger!

huuskymam · 04/12/2020 09:19

No thanks, a white Christmas is fine if you don't have to leave the house for a few days. Lots of people still working through the silly season will have issues with getting around.

Plonque · 04/12/2020 13:00

We have had a light dusting today ❄️ it hasn't stuck and now keeps alternating between snow and sleet.

WildOrchids67 · 04/12/2020 13:02

No. This year's been shit enough without snow buggering up people's plans to see family over Christmas.

MynephewR · 04/12/2020 13:08

It was snowing all morning here, but it was already wet so it didn't settle. It's now raining 🙄

BiddyPop · 04/12/2020 14:32

I'd love some here too.

Although we couldn't do our now traditional "Snowed-In BBQ" on the green with all the neighbours at the moment....which started in 2009 and is continued anytime there is enough of a dusting that the green looks white from the windows. (Hot wine, any food from all the fridges that can be cooked on a BBQ, and hot squash for kiddies - adults stand and chatter, kiddies play in snow, various Dads used to pull a fishbox as a makeshift sled when they were quite small, but nowadays it's more about snowball wars against the "oh so boring adults" from the teens!).

But we could probably stand around drinking hot wine that we've each concocted in our own houses.....

LadyofMisrule · 04/12/2020 16:46

I love snow. I hope for a white Christmas every year.

Erictheavocado · 04/12/2020 18:04

No. I don't like snow at the best of times and definitely not if it threatens to stop dh and I getting together with our sons on Christmas Day. We have already had to make the hard choice not to see our mums or siblings at Christmas but at least should be able to see our dcs and their partners. Our sons have not seen each other since March, due to the lockdowns and tiers. None of us will be seeing anyone else over the 'window', so snow would be a real problem. On a wider basis, I think a lot of people would take risks they otherwise wouldn't and would attempt to carry out their Christmas plans, whereas in more normal times, they would be happy to postpone. The potential for road accidents and bad falls would be larger than otherwise. So, no, no snow for me thank you.
