I live in Northern Ireland and I’d absolutely love some snow this Christmas, I hate driving in it but I love the look of it and the atmosphere it creates and I think it’d be lovely to end of the year we’ve all had.

Anyone else want it to snow this year?

I'm in NI too and would love it! I have to self isolate over Christmas due to an op shortly after and that means my DS has to as well :( He LOVES snow and snow on Christmas Day would make it magical rather than shit for him.

Summerstorms · 03/12/2020 12:41

I hade snow. I can't walk in it even to the front gate, and my wheelchair can't manage it either

MaggieFS · 03/12/2020 12:42

Normally I'd say yes please, but given the five day Christmas bubble period is the only time we'll be able to see mum and MIL indoors for the foreseeable future, I really don't want snow cocking up the travel.

My 2.5 year old is obsessed with the idea that it snows at Christmas (TBF, I realised that every book or TV depiction of Christmas he has ever seen shows it as snowy - surely setting false expectations for UK children?!), and talks about it daily and ignores me when I say it probably won't snow so I would love a light dusting. When we inevitably don't get one, think of me dealing with a tantrum from a tiny person who doesn't believe that I don't control the weather... At least there'll be plenty of chocolate to distract him with!

Crappyfridays7 · 03/12/2020 12:46

Nope, yes it’s pretty and fun for the kids, great if you’ve nowhere to go over Christmas but lot of people don’t get the 2 weeks off so I’ll still be driving 40 miles to work at 6am pre gritters in icy weather and I would rather not have snow ⛄️ it’s a long shift then I don’t want to drive back home at 8pm in snow ⛄️ urgh nope.

NaughtipussMaximus · 03/12/2020 12:48

I'd love it to snow from say midday Christmas Eve, melting by 27th. We're not having guests or going anywhere, so it would just look magical and not be a pain!

nosswith · 03/12/2020 12:54

No thank you. Not with the inability of my local council and many others to grit roads, and then the inability of most drivers to adjust to these different conditions.

Everything crossed so!! It'll be an even bigger celebration!

rosie1959 · 03/12/2020 13:04

Not in the middle of a pandemic
Roads blocked with snow icy conditions are not going to help with people who need to get to a testing centre. Also vaccines coming in need to get to their destination and people that are called need to be able to get there safely
An extra pressure on the NHS with accidents broken bone ect

UseOfWeapons · 03/12/2020 13:15

No thanks, I used to love it when I was younger, but now I hate it with a passion!
Anything that puts more pressure on bed occupancy at work will be a nightmare, and getting to and from work in dicey conditions is horrible! It’s ok when I know it won’t be for long, and haven’t got to travel anywhere, and when it snowed last time, I made a beautiful snow rabbit in the garden! But I worry about my elderly parents slipping, they’ll still go out, they’re too stubborn to stay in🤷🏻‍♀️

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/12/2020 13:16

Snow 23rd - 27th Dec would ruin a lot of peoples’ Christmas plans, so I wouldn’t want snow this Christmas.

It would be lovely to have some though. Maybe around New Year when it would cause a bit less disruption.

RaininSummer · 03/12/2020 13:19

Definitely not as it will make Christmas travel slower and more dangerous.

There's a thread on here called Snow Watch, you could follow that.

Spoiler: I don't think it's happening Wink

Angel2702 · 03/12/2020 13:25

I’ve never had snow anywhere near ChristMad in my life, I hate snow but I wouldn’t mind it at Christmas, would be amazing for the kids and as we aren’t travelling anywhere I wouldn’t have the dread of driving in it.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 03/12/2020 13:31

We’ve had the stuff on the ground since Halloween. Novelty wears off pretty quickly, especially as it’s usually so cold and dry here that it’s not the right snow for snowmen and snowballs. Good for skiing though.

Crabwoman · 03/12/2020 13:38

I love it, after a hellish experience in 2009.

I was in hospital after my waters had broken early. Nothing had happened for 24 hours so I was kept in for an induction the following day.

Thar night I went into labour, on my own on a general maternity ward. It was horrific. To make matters worse, once I had progressed enough to go to the labour unit I still had to spend hours on my own as my DH was stuck behind a massive accident.

But I still love snow 😊

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/12/2020 13:44

No, I hate driving in snow. My daughter lives on a lane down winding country roads and I want to be able to have Christmas day with them.

NovemberR · 03/12/2020 14:12

I would love a white Christmas. Not in Northern Ireland, but still love it. We're Tier 3 and very little is open anyway. Weather is raining and miserable. I'd like a bit of Christmassy snow.

Sceptre86 · 03/12/2020 15:59

No thanks we had snow last night and a fair bit today. I don't drive and the kids school is up a hill (have my test booked soon). It takes that much longer to get anywhere. Fine if you are working from home but for those of us who have to go out to work it is a pain in the arse. That being said my kids are 3 and 4 years old and are very happy.

Shitzngiggles · 03/12/2020 16:01

No thats the last I want this year. I'm visiting ny mum in her care xmas day, that would just about finish her off if I couldn't get there after only seeing her a handful of times this year.

Shitzngiggles · 03/12/2020 16:02

DinosApple · 03/12/2020 16:16

I'd love snow at Christmas!
My eldest daughter's first two Christmas's were white in 2009 and 2010 - clearly she can't remember that so it would be lovely for her and her sister (born just after the weather warmed up in Jan 2011). From 24th afternoon to be melted by the 27th would be perfect for us.

Tbf I would settle for a haw frost Christmas morning!

mathanxiety · 03/12/2020 16:17

I live in a place that is really well organized for snow and I'd love it, as long as it does the snowing on Christmas Eve and not on the 23rd or 27th, when DD1 and 2 will be driving long distance to get home and then return.

Excited101 · 03/12/2020 16:39

Normally I’d say yes- I love snow! But this year absolutely not. There will be a lot more people than usual making day trips to see relatives because they don’t feel it’s safe to stay longer, this would be an absolute nightmare.
