House warming present, what would you like to receive

Need to buy a gift for a friend who has just moved house but have no idea what. When I moved she got me a nice white company set.

What would you like to receive from a budget of £60 if you’d just moved house?

Nice new mugs and a house plant +pot.

Globalpandemicmum · 30/11/2020 20:44

Ooh a house plant is a nice idea. Thank you

Really thick heavy wine glasses.
A garden plant that will come each year.
Lovely new bedding, January sale maybe?

Nothing that needs to be dusted.

Wine, flowers, chocolates for me, please.

John Lewis vouchers so she can choose what she needs

missmouse101 · 30/11/2020 21:38

I'd hate a pot plant! A pot of mud. No! Definitely a gift voucher and a bottle of wine.

mumduty · 30/11/2020 21:40

I would love to receive wine glasses or kitchenware or new bedding including throw and cushions. I need to buy this right now :)

Something that she likes but will not have. So, if she likes to entertain and likes a drink, some posh shot glasses or martini glasses or Something like that.

Patterned Glass jug and little juice glasses

A throw

At this time of year, a lovely candle that smells of Christmas. A friend of mine, who visited me in a new house, once said that it was a Norwegian tradition to give someone a candle when they move to a new home, which at the time I thought was a lovely idea . (I don't know how accurate that is but her family was from Norway so I accepted it must be!)

If you decide to go with bread and salt, a Salt Pig is a interesting gift. I keep one by my cooktop with nice sea salt in it.

MondeoFan · 30/11/2020 22:07

A posh candle
A pair of EB mugs
A lovely doormat

Blankiefan · 30/11/2020 22:11

I bought a friend some gorgeous cake plates last year. You could supplement this with some amazing cake!

Voucher for nice restaurant near new place. Help a local small business while you are at it.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/11/2020 22:20

The only housewarming gift I have ever received was a wooden pig ornament "because every house needs a pig". We were living in Papua New Guinea at the time.

Noddyandbiggerears · 30/11/2020 22:21

I remember when I moved into my first house one of DH’s colleagues got us all those little kitchen things you don’t know that you need - so like a garlic crusher, foil cutter, pair of tongs. I found it really quite touching as she’d put a lot of thought into it.

Pechanga · 30/11/2020 22:28

I wouldn't like a plant.

What I would love is a Jo Malone candle (I'd never buy myself one and would love to have one in my home)

I also like the idea of EB mugs, decent wine glasses or something quirky like a salt pig for the kitchen.

Sprig1 · 30/11/2020 22:31

I like the idea of a voucher for a nearby restaurant. Moving is expensive and if they are anything like me they will be spending all their money on the house.

Pipandmum · 30/11/2020 22:35

A tree for the garden.

FredtheFerret · 30/11/2020 22:40

I'd prefer a Dunelm voucher. I could happily spend £60 in there on things I would like. I hate being given other people's choice of bedding, rug, throw, doormat etc.

I have so many wine glasses - from 2 weddings over 20 years - that I could host a Greek night where we threw them at the fireplace. I don't drink.

Pantsomime · 30/11/2020 22:41

Vouchers all the way - if you don’t know her taste you are possibly cluttering up her house and soon the charity shop

Ginfordinner · 30/11/2020 22:44

If I was moving house now the last thing I need is more "stuff" to find a home for
I don't do candles
Anything scented is very personal and something that ai would prefer to choose for myself
I love cooking and would want to choose my own kitchen stuff

An outdoor planter filled with plants would be my go to, with perhaps a bottle of wine.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 30/11/2020 22:48

Yes to vouchers, we have been given so many cocktail glasses and similar over the years that we have no space for and no desire to use. I don't like EB mugs or those cake plates, sorry, would much rather choose something myself.

movingonup20 · 30/11/2020 22:50

Personally I would want tea towels and oven mitts that match my new kitchen, perhaps an apron too

BritInAus · 30/11/2020 22:55

Definitely not something like bedding, cushions etc - I would want to choose those myself.

Would love any kind of plant (indoor or outdoor), decent candle, really luxurious hand soap and lotion, good wine or gin, voucher for something nearby (take away/food delivery for when they've just moved in).

Would not want 2 mugs, or set of wine glasses - I have these already and don't want (for example) 4 random wine glasses that don't match the 12 I already have.
