Are there any foods that you've learned to love?

It took me over 30 years to eat mayonnaise and now I love it. I used to hate pesto and now I can't get enough. There are a few foods that I want to learn to enjoy including raw tomatoes and dark chocolate(in bar form. (I'm ok with things like peppermint creams but not straight dark chocolate.) but so far I'm not having any luck.

Which foods have you learned to appreciate in adulthood?

Fish and seafood - hated it when I was young, learned to like it with age.

Olives. I feel like such a cliche 🤦‍♀️

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/11/2020 20:21

Olives for me too

GCITC · 28/11/2020 20:21

Pizza. I was getting fed up of the reactions I got when I said I didn't like it.

bettybyebye · 28/11/2020 20:25

Yup, olives too

CarryOnWalking · 28/11/2020 20:28

Stilton

Standrewsschool · 28/11/2020 20:29

I was a fussy eater in a way that I hated most foods.... I've learned to like almost every food since then. Mushrooms, eggs, onions, steak, beef, fish, vegetables, bread etc.

I've taught myself to like tea because it made my life easier socially. Very few people can cope when their guest doesn't like coffee or tea!

Also wine. Didn't see the point of it until I married a french man who doesn't go a day without having a glass. He's introduced me to proper wine matching.

Olives.

Boiled potatoes. Grew up in a country and an era where boiled potatoes accompanied almost every meal. Hated them. Gradually learnt to tolerate them. Now I actually like them.

Porridge. I won't say I'm quite at 'loving' it yet but I can appreciate that it's good for me and force a bowl down most days, which is much more than I could do as a child.

Flax seed

MingeofDeath · 28/11/2020 21:26

Another recent convert to olives

NeedToKnow101 · 28/11/2020 21:27

Okra!!! Yum!

TrailingLobelias · 28/11/2020 21:30

I was vegetarian most my life and am not anymore but I never developed a taste for meat. I keep trying and so far have found veal and sausage ok.

CosyQueen · 28/11/2020 21:30

Red wine, coffee, avocado, white fish (like cod etc), olives, sundried tomatoes, pate, courgette.

BecomeStronger · 28/11/2020 21:31

Nuts

ApplesandAardvarks · 28/11/2020 21:35

Olives are a popular one. They're on my list of items to persist with in future though I'm not too fussed if I don't learn to love them but I really want to learn to like raw tomatoes. They look so good and would liven up my salads. Perhaps one day I'll get there.

Fresh coriander. Used to think it tasted like soap, but over the years forgot to ask for my baltis without it enough times that I got a taste for it. Now I buy it in great big bunches and use it in curries, salads, salsas and noodles!

Blibbyblobby · 28/11/2020 21:38

Oh - and gin! I thought I didn't like it but someone bought me a pink pepper G&T on my birthday so I had to drink it to be polite and it was lovely! Turns out it's the juniper I don't like and there's loads of other types now.

Blibbyblobby · 28/11/2020 21:39

@ApplesandAardvarks I find cherry tomatoes much nicer raw than bigger ones, if that helps

RosesAndHellebores · 28/11/2020 21:41

Fennel
Hoummous - still don't like Pease pudding
Sausages

SionnachRua · 28/11/2020 21:44

Oh loads! I was a picky wee fucker as a child, have mostly overcome that now. Olives are my latest project - I've found I have to make myself eat things a few times before I acquire a taste for them. Though I can't see myself ever coming around to raisins.

Over the past few years I've started eating mackerel, mussels, mayonnaise, coconut, tomatoes, red wine, watermelon, nuts, spinach, peanut butter...you name it, I fussed about it!

jay55 · 28/11/2020 21:52

Blue cheese and curry, didn't like either until late 20s.

BearSoFair · 28/11/2020 22:02

Marzipan. Used to meticulously peel it off of cakes, now I often buy little chocolate coated marzipan squares!
