It’s certainly made me pine for the sea more !!!

It has made me realise that I LOVE where I live and I wouldn't change a thing, we have a small town, access to a city, plenty of coast, mountains, rural walks, history and lots of great industries. I wouldn't move for anything really.

EduCated · 26/11/2020 20:07

Yes - I only live a few miles from where I live, but first lockdown in particular saw us out walking all over the place. I’ve learnt so much about where we live! Little bits of heritage, footpaths I’d never noticed, mentally joined the dots between different locations in my head.

It’s also made me very glad that we moved from the large city we had been living in previously - being able to walk out easily to green spaces has been great.

Where do you live??? It sounds perfect
Buttercream22 · 26/11/2020 20:08

Yes! I really want to move back to Yorkshire nearer family and close friends. I've been living just north of London now for 6 years and desperately want to move back home....just need to convince the hubby (here for his work).

IrishMamaMia · 26/11/2020 20:11

I've been able to fully connect with neighbours, do local nature walks etc. We've all been looking out for each other and I feel like I'm part of something now.
I'm in a villagey area with easy access to London and the countryside and am going to stay where I am :)

lazylinguist · 26/11/2020 20:15

Yes, it's made me even more than usually glad that we moved 6 years ago to a pretty rural area where people aren't living cheek-by-jowl and where it's easy to get out and exercise in beautiful countryside with no crowds. We still have decent local facilities etc too.

Stopitwiththefireworks · 26/11/2020 20:17

It’s confirmed that I love where I live - access to miles of countryside, I cycled 25 miles yesterday, 90% off road.

But that’s one of the reasons we moved here. We were keen walkers and cyclists long before Covid.

We also have a large garden, but again we always spent a lot of time in it before Covid.

We have a town in walking distance and can be in London in an hour, although I’ve not been to London since March (apart from an unavoidable work meeting) and not missed it once.

RaraRachael · 26/11/2020 20:17

I live 100m from the sea and would live anywhere else if I could. Nothing to do with the sea, but a town where everyone thinks they know your business and don't let the truth get in the way of a story.
Houses have been flying off the shelves recently, mainly to people from England. Goo luck - I'd do a swap if I could afford it Sad

kittykat35 · 26/11/2020 20:18

@lovelovelove2020 I live in Ireland 🇮🇪

Littlemissnutcracker · 26/11/2020 20:19

I do feel isolated at times but I know we are lucky with our home. Would prefer to live near the sea or a lively town (or both) but it's quiet and safe and pretty where we live.

cariadlet · 26/11/2020 20:21

I've always thought my very small town was really boring (moved here for work, planned to stay for a couple of years but met somebody local and 25 years later I'm stuck here) and would never have spent the whole weekend/school holidays here.

The pandemic has really made me reevaluate things. I've enjoyed pottering around in my garden or going for a nice long run that ends up at the seafront. I've seen some beautiful sunrises over the sea on days that I've been motivated enough to go out really early.

I've slowed down, haven't been outside this boring little town since March and am very content.

ohidoliketobe · 26/11/2020 20:29

Made me 100% relieved I broached the conversation with DH 3 years ago about moving back to my childhood home town, he was fully up for it so we did. No regrets then and certainly none now. We got more for our money compared to where we had been living, better schools and closer to family. But further from work but not horrendous - we're now wfh so glad we didn't put too much emphasis on that!
I can see the sea from our bedroom window, 40 mins to either the lakes or big cities, small town with plenty of local shops. Being able to get out with the kids for a walk in either the park or the each during lockdown has been incredible, and a house with enough space we don't feel like we're on top of each other. Would have felt it badly in our previous house on a soulless commuter estate which was about a 25 min walk each way to the nearest shop just for milk or a loaf.

Lardlizard · 26/11/2020 20:34

Rara what seaside town is that ?

OP posts:
vanillandhoney · 26/11/2020 20:36

Yep, it's made me incredibly grateful for where I live!

Five minutes from the beach, woodland, acres of fields and fifteen minutes from a national park for even more places to explore. We've been to explore so many places on our doorstep - it's been a godsend, especially with my mental health.

EminyBOO · 26/11/2020 20:53

I have discovered so many lovely walks and reservoirs and playgrounds etc on my doorstep that I never knew existed until this year, and I’ve lived in the area for 10+ years! It has definitely made me appreciate it a lot more.

On the flip side, it has made me hate my actual house. Having to spend so much time here including working from home has made me feel so claustrophobic. We have definitely outgrown the house and as soon as we have finished paying for childcare I’m getting out of here!

Twospaniels · 26/11/2020 20:57

I am thankful to be able to live where I do.

Tiny hamlet in the countryside. No crowds, no noise, well away from other people during a pandemic is ideal

MrsDThomas · 26/11/2020 21:00

Yes. Its stunning and many love it. Too many visitors in the summer and i hate it being so crowded so i tend to go to the places they don’t know about and like to keep it that way.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/11/2020 21:12

It's made me appreciate my town more, I love it here. It also made me very grateful that both DH and I have jobs that cannot be done from home as we have nowhere near enough space, love our house but it's not very big.

paganbilly · 26/11/2020 21:13

That I need to live in the coast but we are stuck here.

Lardlizard · 26/11/2020 22:57

@paganbilly why do you feel you are stuck ?

OP posts:
sandragreen · 26/11/2020 23:10

Yes, absolutely.

I only moved to my current home in late 2019 and chose a much smaller home based on the location. Although it would in some ways have been useful to have had extra space, I have to say it has been so lovely to feel so secure and safe where I am.

I am 7 minutes walk to the beach and 15 minutes walk to National Park. 10 Minutes walk to big shopping centre. 20 minutes drive to city with absolutely everything you could ask for.

I feel at peace despite the obvious chaos going on around all of us.

BefuddledPerson · 26/11/2020 23:16

Yes, where I live is well liked and popular but I just find it a bit dull. I used to cope by taking advantage of its excellent transport links! Now I really feel like a change. I bet I'm here til the bitter end...

weepingwillow22 · 27/11/2020 05:25

Yes, I would like to live somewhere with a competent government. Maybe New Zealand or Germany.

I think about this aspect a lot. I was feeling quite low about it. But it is nice to know the personal friends of Tory ministers can be sure of support and contracts Angry
Ilovemycat13 · 27/11/2020 08:27

Definitely! I live in a one bed flat with no garden. It’s been an awful year.
