It’s certainly made me pine for the sea more !!!

Very happy we moved back to Scotland. Love it here.

PawsAndPhytoncides · 27/11/2020 11:56

Another one here who is very grateful.

In recent years I have lived in Capital cities and abroad in far flung places. I loe dit all but I settled into a rural spot in the UK about 3 years ago and am SO glad I live where I do now, during this year. So many muddy fields and woods and open spaces to get out and walk in.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/11/2020 17:54

Beguilingeyes

Do you live in Walthamstow

Yes - well spotted! We don't have a massive house either, but every time I consider selling up and buying a bigger place in Chingford or Woodford I just think...nah.

Lots of friends have though, as they were feeling cramped - they don't regret it.

nosswith · 27/11/2020 18:51

It has made me explore more of the area on foot, and be grateful for two parks and a common.

I have also discovered black labradors seem the main choice of dog.

bengalcat · 27/11/2020 18:54

I love London and although I was still working and life seemed pretty normal it was especially nice there were less people around and generally quieter .

abstractzebra · 27/11/2020 18:59

I love where I live!
A few minutes walk from the sea and a lovely harbour. Loads of lovely and interesting walks.
Town a ten minute walk away including 3 supermarkets.
Nice neighbours.
A world away from where I was before and I appreciate it every day 😍

AdoptedBumpkin · 27/11/2020 19:35

I am very glad I moved with my DP and DD last year. Being in the countryside has made lockdown a lot more relaxing, and it has been a little safer for DD being in a smaller school.

Mydogisagentleman · 27/11/2020 19:53

I love where we live. It’s the end of the train line, 8 miles to the closest beach, miles of gorgeous sand, Norwich or Cambridge in an hour or so and 2 hours drive to London.
Despite all this, we are planning to emigrate to Spain in about 5 years

garlictwist · 27/11/2020 20:03

I'm surprised how many people are so keen on the sea. Can't remember the last time I went to the coast in this country. In my experience it's cold, depressing and usually attached to shit towns. I never know what to DO when I go to a beach, even in Spain. Give me mountains any day.

Bloodybridget · 27/11/2020 20:11

There's a lot I love about where I live, but it is grimy inner London, and not being able to get away from it has underlined how much I hate the litter and general filth.

tootyfruitypickle · 27/11/2020 20:13

It’s made me very aware of life’s ups and downs and this has helped in 2020’

A year ago I moved to a small village to start a new life with dd after a godawful divorce . It was like a leap into the unknown and I was terrified. We just completed in our sale before Christmas .

We have lovely countryside , neighbours who arrange street socially distanced get togetherness, and I love my house, which is much smaller and less ‘done’ than what I had in my marriage but so much more me.

I would have felt so claustrophobic in the city I lived in.

The last few years were dark and scary for me and this has reminded me that scary decisions can be the right ones.

FredtheFerret · 27/11/2020 20:18

Incredibly grateful for where we live. Near the coast, rural, detached, decent sized garden. Realised how much I like being at home and what a sanctuary it is for me. Realised how lucky we are.

PronkWine · 27/11/2020 20:20

We live in a super rural location with Superfast broadband. It's all good here 😎

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/11/2020 20:21

This year has made me very thankful that I live where I do. If I could be near the sea as well it would be perfect.

MollyButton · 27/11/2020 20:29

I was going to move before Lockdown - but am now moving in a very different direction. The place I'd always kind of wanted to go to, I realised didn't have that much opportunity for walks, whereas where Iwas (and still am living) I could go for lots of different walks just from the front door.
So we're now moving to somewhere near the sea and with lots of walks, small towns - and in a location with good broadband. But I can only afford it because I'm moving from somewhere expensive.

megletthesecond · 27/11/2020 20:30

Yes. My neighbourhood is as grotty and unfriendly as I feared. And I miss the sea.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/11/2020 20:40

I'm surprised how many people are so keen on the sea

Now you mention it, me too! I grew up next to the sea, and we all never paid much attention to it. It was there, it was fine, it was no big deal.

LindaEllen · 27/11/2020 20:49

It makes me miss my childhood home SO much.
I live in a town centre now. We've had the garden done this summer, but couldn't make the most of it because it was being done and I didn't want to sit out sunbathing with the workmen haha.

My childhood home (that my mum still lives in, but obviously I can't visit at the moment) is beautiful, lots of space, a big garden, and amazing walks. You can literally walk one of 5 ways and there's a completely unique and interesting route, right from the front door.

My mum is hoping to downsize (not yet, she's only in her 50s, we're talking 15-20 years) and I very much want to house swap with her. I think she'd be happy with that as she'd prefer to be somewhere a bit busier, whereas I'm the opposite!

MrsDThomas · 27/11/2020 22:00

Im lucky to have the coast and the mountains.

pallisers · 27/11/2020 22:19

I realise how much I loved my house and how suitable it is if you have to stay home for a long time. We renovated about 4 years ago and I emailed the architect and builder after a couple of months and said thank you to them again for making it so nice. I love my neighbourhood too - walking distance to shops/lake/take out place and good neighbours who look out for each other.

Would be nice to be by the sea though :)

Ozgirl75 · 28/11/2020 01:54

It’s definitely made me realise how lucky I am in Australia. The pandemic has been handled so well here, we had a short lockdown and then everything went back to normal, schools closed for about 5 weeks. There’s loads of outside space, places to walk, swim, explore. Companies have embraced home working which has meant that my husband is now working from home most of the time which has given him time for hobbies and playing football with the kids after school.
It has also made me appreciate how lucky we are normally to be able to travel freely as obviously we can’t leave at the moment, but we have been planning loads of travel both here and overseas when we open up again.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 28/11/2020 02:12

I bought a house by the beach in Australia in January, and I appreciated it SO MUCH during our very short lockdown. I feel so lucky to live here, especially as we are practically covid free. I've lived all over the place, but this is where I'm stopping.

Ozgirl75 · 28/11/2020 02:34

We had been thinking of moving back before the pandemic because our sons are approaching high school, parents getting older, we liked the idea of exploring Europe etc, but seeing the U.K. from afar over the past year has sharply reminded us why we left in the first place. The inability to manage crisis, the moaning, complaining, dobbing neighbours in, the sheer number of people all competing for the same resources, the buckling of the NHS, Brexit etc has not been a good incentive to come back.
There are so many things we love about the U.K. - the beautiful, safe countryside, the culture, the history, old buildings, castles, proximity to Europe, but we figure we can experience them on holidays back and actually it’s made us appreciate the ease of day to day life in Sydney and the character of the Australian people too.

garlictwist · 28/11/2020 05:27

I'm also glad to live in a city. My mum lives in the Lake District in a small community and everyone is the covid police, curtain twitching and dobbing each other in. I would hate that.

JustSay · 28/11/2020 05:31

I'm in London and while I loved all the uber eats, deliveroos and gazillion super and mini markets around i hanker after rural country and coatline walks, no neighbours for at least half a mile and CLEANER AIR! it was bliss to open up the windows in the hieght of lockdown with hardly any cars on the road.
It's difficult to move though because of uncertainty and schools.
