He has no idea what he wants to do with his life and he wants to quit school as he's had enough.

I feel like if he had aspirations like other kids his age he'd better grasp why he needs to stay in school

The closest i can get to what he wants to do is "be a superhero". How do i get my 5 yo to like school again? And why doesn't he what a job?

@Sobeyondthehills

TBF at 5 DS wanted to be batman and the best sandwich maker in the world.

Now at 8 he wants to be a youtuber and the best sandwich maker in the world.

I do find it weird that "random person with no discernible special skills being watched by millions" is a valid career choice. DS would certainly prosper in that job of his reenactments are anything to go by 🤣

Loving the responses here!!
I'm so sympathetic to him! I'm 56 and although I love my job there are days I just want to stay under the duvet, eat cake and watch TV all day.
When dd was 5 she wanted to be a mermaid. She's now in her 3rd year at uni. During her 6th form years she was working most weekends and holidays to be able to pay for her rent.
The school experience over the last year has been very disruptive and not what one would expect of normal school life. Give him time and things should get better. Hopefully, he'll settle into the routine and realise that it's something he and all his friends just have to do.

Yeah 6 months of mom school didn't really help the massive transition from reception to yr1 either poor thing

He sounds like the character Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, future genius maybe?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/11/2020 09:37

He's fine once he's in, has a 121

The reason he has a 121 may also be playing a part - possibly it just takes more effort to do stuff that others can do effortlessly, which is tiring and not fun.

Sorry that was misrepresentatie. He has one as he's on O2 so needs some physical help with moving it around. There are little things that mean he gets less time at play time but we're working on those

@SleepingStandingUp

I think youtuber is in the same vain as actor or comedian. Thousands of them but only very few are successful.

If that is what he wants to do, I am fine with it, as long as he has a back up. Also from I what I get, you need to have a broad knowledge of editing, coding etc. He has a plan for it and already does videos and has started to learn to edit.

Its one of those things I am keeping an eye on and see where it goes.

Well he just needs to remember when he gets his first million and invited into STC that you supported his ambitions 🤩
