If your 13 yr old wanted chocolate

Is it normal in your household that they would just get up and go and buy some at the local shop?
Or are they dependent on you for sweet treats?

I personally don't see the problem with my teenager wanting to buy the occasional sushi meal deal with his own money before school. I can't add that to my weekly shop on a Friday.

It's 30 mins walk to the shop in the village and 30 mins back. That's usually enough to allow the cravings to pass

Mine have to ask/let me know for leaving the house but not so much seeking permission to buy a chocolate bar. My dd (14) often has craving for things and so pop out for certain cheese /fruit /juice. So for her it's a "in popping out to grab x from y do you want anything" Ds (12) is lazy and wouldn't go unless on way to /from somewhere which is probably a blessing as he is not good about sticking to a healthy diet.

We usually share, whatever I put in the on line shop, but not much. But I had a whole nut hidden in the fridge and when he spotted it I told him he could get his own. His response was ‘I’m 13!’ As if 13 yr olds are incapable of going to the shop. Sad
Just made me think about how ‘in control’ of his life I am. He’s not very independent.
He does have some special needs, someone asked.
