Watching Vikings tonight and I had to make DH stop it because I was so upset. There was a birth delivery going wrong and I just couldn't bear it, but then once he stopped it I realised o needed to know so we watched it whilst i cried. They were fine. All praise the Christian God.

I felt like a bit of an idiot really, but the panic and upset was genuine and strong.

Lake me feel less like a weirdo. What was the last think you cried at on telly?

I watched children in Need. It usually is full of heart wrenching stories but then there was Eva.

Eva was a lovely little 10 year old who became very ill. Last Xmas and they discovered she had a brain tumour. NHS believe it’s inoperable. They fundraised for her to have treatment abroad but then covid lockdown happened and she’s been unable to access treatment and her parents have noticed further deterioration.

The family were so lovely and the little girl reminded me of my own, she was just a very sweet little girl and you could see how much they loved each other. My heart utterly broke for them. I actually had to leave the room as I couldn’t stop crying for her/them and the awfulness of the situation.

Recently - Children in Need- the bits where they tell you where the money is going to, always get me going.

& Judge Rinder's Holocaust and Me programme. Was really moving and emotional viewing

Gemstones2 · 22/11/2020 22:48

The mcdonalds advert!

MargaretHooper · 22/11/2020 22:53

@nosswith - me too.
That programme should be repeated at regular intervals.

MargaretHooper · 22/11/2020 22:54

@jambeforeclotted cream - absolutely.

ginandgingers92 · 22/11/2020 22:55

Last episode of The A Word I watched tonight and to my shame, the McDonald's Christmas ad... Blush

percheron67 · 22/11/2020 23:00

Last time I recall was when One Man died.

merryhouse · 22/11/2020 23:00

We're watching our way through Downton Abbey and on Friday it was The Dog...

‘Repair Shop’ - every time! The one last week where they restored the doll that had survived a WW2 air raid had me in bits. I think it’s that they do everything with such genuine love and care.

The bit in The crown where the Queen pinned an award (or whatever you call them) onto Margaret Thatcher ...never thought anything to do with mrs thatcher would move me but it was so emotionally acted.

HerFlowersToLove · 22/11/2020 23:16

@MrsOrMiss

Rob Rinder's show about the Holocaust had me in pieces.
Yes. His who do you think you are, and the two follow up programmes are heartbreaking. He has a wonderful way of expressing the horror and personal sadness families went through, whilst being so humane.

Can't pay we'll take it away!
There was a woman I think maybe from Nigeria who they had gone to evict. Her husband had gone home and left her and she had no recourse(?) to public funds.
She had found a part time job that was only £200 a month and that's all her and her two children were living on.

Social Services refused to help her even when the bailiffs spoke to them and explained the situation. She had a letter from SS saying that she was working so she was not destitute.

The council wouldn't help her. They said she wasn't entitled to any help.
The bailiffs said they would give her money because they were so worried about where they would sleep.
Her children were crying their eyes out and that set me off.

In the end one of the bailiffs drove her to the council offices and the other bailiff gave her his number and told her to keep in touch.
He spoke to her later and she told him that that the council was sending her 40 miles away and given her a one way train ticket which meant that she wouldn't be able to go to work but she wasn't allowed to claim benefits either.

I was so upset when it ended and I couldn't stop thinking about her. I wish I knew what had happened to her and how she had managed. She must have felt so lonely and hopeless.
