What do you make in your stand mixer??

I've got one! A Kenwood Prospero. Thank you DH and Black Friday deals Grin

After wanting one for so long, I'm not paralysed with indecision. What should I make first? Basic fairycakes, as a trial run? Something I never make usually due to the whipping involved, like meringues? Bread, because hello dough hook?

Please help me with this weighty decision Grin

I think you should make a celebratory cake.

nancybotwinbloom · 21/11/2020 18:18

Is this like a kitchenaid?

My DH makes bread, cakes etc with it.

I'm getting him some attachments for Christmas so he can make pasta and chip veg

SillyBub · 21/11/2020 18:21

I've just this second finished whipping up an American pancake batter in mine ready for a gloriously unhealthy Saturday dinner.

I use it for cake batter and bread dough and meringue mainly. It's a Kenwood Chef so I use the food processor and blender attachments for loads of stuff too. Wouldn't be without it.

FannysSteadiedBuffs · 21/11/2020 18:21

Bread
Cakes
Brownies - the one where you have to whisk the eggs for ages
Pastry
Also I've got a thing that goes on top that grates things so I can grate a massive pot of cheese in one go. Or all the veg for a spag bol because I'm crap at chopping and the kids hate lumps.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/11/2020 18:22

I love my Prospero. I use it several times a week.
I think you should do the meringues to make the most of its whipping ability.
What I really love about having a stand mixer is that while it’s busy mixing I can get on with the clearing up so I don’t end up with a lot to do at the end. It makes everything seem easier for that reason.

Bridecilla · 21/11/2020 18:23

Pizza dough, bread dough and Victoria sponge. That's it and it's massively underused. Interested in recipes and ideas too op!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 21/11/2020 18:24

A bit like a kitchen aid, but more powerful and better performing!

I mix cakes, bread, meringue, buttercream, cookies, its great!

KyraGoose · 21/11/2020 18:25

Pizza dough

Nacreous · 21/11/2020 18:28

I recently got a second hand Kenwood Major (giant Kenwood Chef), and I am so excited. I've done bread, and I did a 2lb loaf and it could have coped with double.

I also use it for meringue, buttercream, whipping cream, cakes.

Haven't done pancake batter but I'll put it on the list. I want to get some of the extras next!

Bridecilla · 21/11/2020 18:38

Oh and I whipped cream in mine for DPs birthday cake last week

I'd love a cookie recipe!

chasingmytail4 · 21/11/2020 18:59

Today I’ve made bread, lemon drizzle cake and cheese scones. Wasn’t sure if I could justify a stand mixer but finally got one earlier this year. It’s a rare day when I don’t use it for something. Enjoy 😊

ReallySpicyCurry · 21/11/2020 19:54

It's so beautiful. It makes my kitchen look like that of a person established in life, somehow. If you ignore the ancient old units Grin

Waiting until tomorrow to have a proper fiddle though...

Lemon meringue pie would give it a good work out, wouldn't it? I could make the pastry AND the filling AND the meringue.

And it'll go well with the sugary gammon we're having

I'll be rolling into work on Monday

Does anyone have a fool-proof pizza dough recipe? Teen DD can see no further than making pizza every weekend (I told her Saturday night dinner was going to be her responsibility)

I always thought my cakes were pretty good until I made them in my beloved Kenwood K-mix. I think the fact that I can leave it creaming butter and sugar whilst I weigh out the flour etc has made a huge difference, plus the fold function. Mine has a silicone bladed attachment for cake making.

So whisking cream or making meringue, lemon drizzle, triple layer chocolate cake or just some cupcakes, I love it. Plus I bought it using Tesco Clubcard vouchers on a double up so it only cost me £30 of my own money.

Bridecilla · 21/11/2020 20:16

@ReallySpicyCurry I use this recipe for pizza

www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/bread/quick-pizza-dough

wonderstuff · 21/11/2020 20:19

Top two uses for ours are pizza dough and mashed potatoes. I know mash isn't difficult by hand but the mixer makes it really lovely and smooth.

CherryPavlova · 21/11/2020 20:22

This evening my daughter made pizza base dough. I make meringues quite frequently outside of lockdown. Muffins. Breads.

SenorFrog · 21/11/2020 20:26

I have a KA, it's such a beautiful expensive kitchen ornament, lol.

The only thing I use mine got which hasn't already been mentioned is I use it to pull chicken and pork. It only requires a short light spin and so much better than two forks.

TheNationsFavourite · 21/11/2020 20:36

I made Viennese whirls with my stand mixer today. Delicious!

mysteryfairy · 21/11/2020 20:48

I’ve owned one for a week. I made an apple cake first just because we have so many then a cherry bakewell cake which DS requested for his birthday - both things I make regularly . Today though I made cinnamon rolls which would a total pain without the mixer and they were gorgeous so I’d say go for them!

NatMoz · 21/11/2020 20:49

Today I made a loaf of bread and pizza dough for our tea in my Kenwood.

Other things I make are:

Cakes, biscuits, pastry for pies/tarts, mashed potato (so smooth!!).

Also use the mincer attachment to make homemade burgers!

Mine is probably used 3 times a week on average.

Reallybadidea · 21/11/2020 21:03

Marshmallows.

ReallySpicyCurry · 21/11/2020 21:31

Marshmallows? Really?

Wouldn't even have thought of cinnamon rolls and mash!

I have to say, I've noticed a difference in certain things that have been made using a mixer. There is a certain lightness that is hard to achieve when you're hand whisking something with a toddler trying to climb up you, and a cat trying to jump on your head, and a teenager crashing through the door with 80 million pieces of sports and music equipment in tow.

Reallybadidea · 21/11/2020 21:35

Yep, marshmallows are surprisingly easy and really fun. You can make loads of different flavours - I make gingerbread ones around Christmas and they taste amazing in hot chocolate.

ReallySpicyCurry · 21/11/2020 21:43

Bloody hell. What's the recipe? Do you use actual ginger, or a synthetic flavouring? Definitely going to give that a try
