Wisdom tooth pain ๐Ÿ˜”

I have a partially erupted top wisdom tooth that play up every few years.

Itโ€™s playing up and itโ€™s so painful :( I had antibiotics as the gum around it so sore and swollen. But I canโ€™t seem to open my jaw very wide. Itโ€™s clicking slightly and just feels stiff. Is this normal?

Dentist wonโ€™t take it out. I had my bottom two out years ago :(

What else can I take?

Why won't they take it out?
It needs removing.
Yes I had this. It was shifting my bottom teeth, clicky jaw, infections.
I took antibiotics and once infection gone it was removed along with others in mouth.
You Can have them out in the chair or under nhs.
Try another dentist.
There are many who specialise is surgery.
Good luck.

I took dicolfenec but before that alternated between paracetamol and ibroprofen.
It was awful.

You need a new dentist. That tooth needs to come out. Stand up for yourself and demand the treatment you need. This is impacting your whole life, ffs.

I suffer with this too - partial eruption and will get an infection every so often (in fact I think Iโ€™m starting with one now). I donโ€™t think itโ€™s as simple as demanding to have it out though. Depending on various factors such as the root of the tooth (they can be hooked, etc.) the dentist would have to use excessive force to get it out which could actually damage the jawbone or cause nerve damage. Itโ€™s a decision that requires balance but I would definitely go back to dentist to explore options if itโ€™s repeatedly causing you issues.

Burnthurst187 · 22/11/2020 18:12

You need a glass of water, lots of salt and stir. Swill it around the problem tooth, spit out and repeat

It's a great short term solution for a couple of hours then do it again

You'll be impressed!

Burnthurst187 · 22/11/2020 18:13

Warm water

Oct18mummy · 22/11/2020 18:14

Get some clove oil if you canโ€™t get out amazon sells it. Literally numbs the whole mouth amazing stuff had it for when I was like you and when I had mine out and got dry socket

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 23/11/2020 11:50

I did the salt water this morning and it helped!

My jaw just feels so stiff. And slightly out of line. Itโ€™s also clicky :( fed up lol

Iโ€™m so fed up now. I can feel a hard painful lump right in the corner. Iv taken painkillers and mouth washing but everytime I move my mouth it hurts :(

OP posts:
HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 23/11/2020 22:22

You need them removed. Go to GP and get industrial painkillers and antibiotics, ring every dentist except for your current one and get a referral for removal. Nhs do removals if other treatment hasn't worked.

Christ you'll not get better with salt water.
I've had mine removed in the UK. Yes there can be a risk but they'll x-ray and organise it.

My god. Get them out. X

You might have an absess. They can be fatal if not treated. Off to the GP or emergency if it's too painful
Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 26/11/2020 10:00

I rang the dentist and heโ€™s getting me in for an X-ray and to referred for it out. Will they take the other out too which hasnโ€™t even came through. Itโ€™s growing side ways and sometimes causes me pain too.

HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 26/11/2020 11:22

They can do them all if they need to.
I had 2 pulled. One was poking through and the other wasn't.
That was a fun day out.
You'll feel so much better x

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 26/11/2020 12:35

Did you have it done with ga?

OP posts:
HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 26/11/2020 19:55

No. All 4 done under local. 2 easy as were poking through and I was in my 20s. 2 drilled out on the same day in 30s.
The longer they're left the harder it gets.
Make sure dentist is competent in surgical removal in chair and it'll be ok.
But nhs removed my friends all 4 under general

elsaesmeralda · 26/11/2020 21:47

I had an abscess on a wisdom tooth and I also couldn't open my jaw, and then my face swelled up I looked like a gerbal it was so painful

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 30/11/2020 09:04

Iโ€™m in so much pain still. I look like Iโ€™m constantly gurning because my jaw locks and clicks whenever I open my mouth. If I sleep on my side my jaw is locked in the morning. I have a pain that goes under my eye, could this be from the wisdom tooth aswell? I donโ€™t think itโ€™s another tooth as they donโ€™t hurt to touch but my whole left side of my face aches constantly.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 30/11/2020 09:05

I was thinking that last year I had to have a filling that side and the injection didnโ€™t work very well at all, they gave me 5 and I could still semi feel it. They said it could be a sinus infection or ear ache? But Iโ€™m wondering if the tooth had anything to do with it?

OP posts:
JorisBonson · 30/11/2020 09:06

All 4 of mine were impacted, had all 4 out under GA. My whole head hurt for months beforehand. You'll feel a lot better when they're out!

See if your dentist / GP will prescribe you 30mg cocodamol. I had a filling touching a nerve earlier this year and it was the only thing to touch it (will make you mega sleepy tho).

BungleandGeorge · 30/11/2020 09:07

Have you finished the course of antibiotics?

BungleandGeorge · 30/11/2020 09:08

And which antibiotic did you have?

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 30/11/2020 09:23

It was metronidazole, yeah I finished on Thursday. Iv been using a medicated mouth wash which helps abit. I just want to sleep comfortably. Doesnโ€™t help that dd4 isnโ€™t sleeping either. Iโ€™m exhausted lol

OP posts:
BungleandGeorge · 30/11/2020 10:38

Things can take a while to settle but pain that is severe and keeps you awake is not normal if the antibiotics have worked. The X-ray will show if you have an abscess or another reason for the pain. Are they slotting you in soon? Iโ€™m guessing you will need more antibiotics in the interim.

DoTheNextRightThing · 30/11/2020 10:56

I absolutely sympathise. I had near constant headaches for four years until I finally got my teeth taken out. Dentist thought I was exaggerating until the x-ray revealed the teeth were growing horizontal into my jaw bone! Keep fighting to get them taken out. It's not worth suffering when a very quick op will fix it forever.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 30/11/2020 15:14

Thanks all. Iโ€™m really hoping it doesnโ€™t take long for an appointment to come through :(
