What do you do to relax, that doesn’t involve a screen?

Lockdown blues, have got into habit of watching tv with phone in hand in the evenings...

What with the lack of light I’m feeling a bit blah and looking for ways to relax, move a bit more, that don’t use screens and don’t mean going outside (in the cold dark, sob).

Anyone else a bit stuck? I’d love to find something really interesting to do that isn’t my bloody phone HmmHmm

Ok just been out for a long walk (half of it in the dark, it’s freezing, gorgeous moon though).

Tonight I’ll write to my grandma.

I read as much as I can but screens have screwed with my attention span 😬 I’m sure that’s fixable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It probably looks feeble on my part but when you’re a bit down you need the obvious pointed out, sometimes, so ta.

Cross stitch :)

As a PP said, I’ll sometimes have the telly on too, but busy hands mean I pick up my phone and snacks less.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 19/11/2020 17:12

@lazylinguist is it on the craft threads? I’ll have to have a look, they’re usually quite quiet. Honestly I don’t think there’s any hope left for me with knitting on crocheting. I’ve even been to a class and the teacher was flummoxed at my lack of skill 😳

Does reading on a Kindle count as a screen?

@Abracadabra12345 I love receiving letters, are they just people you know anyway? When I was younger, I started writing to pen pals through a scheme at school, I doubt they still have schemes like this as it is all electronic these days 🙄

weepingwillow22 · 19/11/2020 17:49

I try to light a fire, pour a glass of port and listen to a audiobook in the 5 minutes I get between the children falling asleep and me falling asleep.

I like to knit and embroider. This year I have also started learning watercolour, as a total beginner. It's so important to be creative, and it's great learning new skills.
@Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese I was in the same mindset with watercolour painting, but I bought a small set of paints and a few watercolour books and finally got stuck in! It does take time to build your confidence, but it has really been worth it for me. Just persevere and keep practicing, and as Bob Ross says "we don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." Grin
