Is it just me or is Alison Hammond awful at presenting?

Hi,

So generally I don't have much of an opinion on Alison either way, but from what I've seen she's a good/unique interviewer and I can understand why she's likeable, but she really can't present. She's on This Morning again now and it's embarrassing tbh!

TM have a habit of using terrible stand ins, but I think AH is on another level. Surely there are better, professional presenters out there?..

Rochelle and Marvin are the only decent stand ins on the show I think

You can see that Phillip Scofield looks on edge and is trying way too hard to keep the show together.

Is it just me? I'm sure I saw a thread on here a few weeks ago saying how wonderful AH was on the show, so maybe it is 🤔

Give her a chance. Presenting live TV is very different to her usual scripted intervews and doing the links for competitions.

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/11/2020 13:45

Dermot is equally as dreadful, but I would imagine AH has only been added as a presenter as part of ITVs diversification

That's a bit harsh, so she only got the job because she's black?
I like watching her, although haven't seen her presenting yet, and she comes across as hard working and likeable. She must have got good feedback.

dottiedodah · 18/11/2020 15:45

According to various reports in the press ,Ruth learnt she was being replaced by the media! They are both furious apparently.See Manchester Evening news 15 November 2020 . Seems a shame!

Well if that's true, I strongly suspect Scofield has a lot to do with it.

Does anyone know when E & R's last Friday is?

Sceptre86 · 18/11/2020 17:20

I watched Alison this morning and found her presenting style hard to watch as it is very disjointed. I find Dermot very dreary as if he only has one speed at which he works.

I do not enjoy Holly and Phil much either though as the constant giggling and inside jokes are annoying and unprofessional.

I like Ruth purely because she can handle both serious and comedic news very well. She is a journalist and that comes across in her interviews. Eomon is an idiot, cuts across her talking and generally a bit of a numpty ( a harmless idiot you could say). If this morning were looking for a change they could have gone for new presenters on a Friday which would have been a nice change or rotated the present lot around, so Eamon and Ruth could have done one a month or two in four.

What I thought was in poor taste were her sour puss comments with regards landing a job due to reality TV. People assumed it was Alison she was referring to but she also works with Stacey Solomon of xfactor fame and Ryan Clarke so she could have been hitting out at them too.

Deadringer · 18/11/2020 17:24

@RunningFromInsanity

I agree. She’s good for comedic value for short pieces, but definitely not for presenting the whole show.
Exactly what i think
EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 18/11/2020 19:39

I must be honest I do like Alison on the little bits that she does, but I did think it was very cringe today. She hardly moved, hardly said anything and seemed awkward, I did wonder if she wasn't well?
I can believe they'd get rid of E&R I love those two!

feelingverylazytoday · 18/11/2020 19:58

I would imagine that AH has only been added as a presenter as part of ITV's diversification
I always thought she was quite charismatic and able to project her personality on TV. Those are good enough reasons to give her a chance at presenting. Perhaps she will improve with experience and a little bit of training.

Batch124 · 19/11/2020 08:42

I watched the show and enjoyed it with Alison Hammond , can’t be easy reading auto cue and having chat in ears and being thrown in last minute without seeing anything all last minute. I feel she holds her own in a different situation. If you watch all the presenter above in their first days Phillip , Holly Eammon Ruth do you think they were perfect straight away ?? No you have to give people time to settle . She is practicing in front of the nation . I feel people are very harsh and I can’t imagine I would be any good being thrown in deep end ! Just my opinion

lynsey91 · 19/11/2020 08:48

I can't stand her. I remember how annoying she was in Big Brother and she hasn't changed.

In fact she has got worse. Wants to make everything about her. Her interviews are embarrassing to watch and she just makes an idiot of herself.

I very rarely watch This Morning as I don't like Philip or Holly. I occasionally watch Ruth & Eamonn or Rochelle and Marvin. I certainly won't watch Alison and Dermot

Sewrainbow · 19/11/2020 08:50

Actually I really enjoyed This Morning yesterday and the the day she did with Dermot the other week.

Her "babes" are no worse than HW's squeaks and yesterday was obviously a last minute stand in so perhaps nerves played a part?

I'm glad they're replacing Ruth and Eamon. Ruth is enjoyable and very professional Eamon is dreadful, rude, sexist, arrogant. I often didnt watch on Fridays because of them but will probably tune in for Alison, she's a breath of fresh air and time will tell if she tones down the exuberance and becomes more sober when talking about sober issues, she's only ever done light hearted skits before. I'm seem to recall Holly being less professional in the early days.

C130 · 19/11/2020 09:09

@CressidaTheHeathen

Really? how sad to think like this. Fwiw Alison comes across as a lovely, warm person. I think she will be fine.
EternalOptimist7 · 19/11/2020 09:13

I like Dermot but have never liked Alison - she rubs me up the wrong way.

JuliaSevern · 19/11/2020 09:19

I love her. There was a thread where loads of people were heaping praise on her so lots of people like her

JuliaSevern · 19/11/2020 09:20

Sorry, i see you mentioned that thread

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 19/11/2020 09:28

@sewrainbow I agree about Holly in the early days, I remember when she first used to do dancing on ice, she used to look so miserable and lacking any sort of input. Not like now!

Whattheworldneedsnowislove · 19/11/2020 09:57

Didn't R&A fall out with Phil some months ago? Add in nepotism with agents, so, it may have always been the case that their days were numbered.

2020WTF · 19/11/2020 10:17

@Batch124, yes, it probably is difficult and that's why it takes a specific kind of person to be able to do it well. If she was just a little rough round the edges because she was starting a new job, fair enough, give her a chance! But she doesn't really have any presenting skills at all, so why not give the job to someone who actually has some? Why give it to someone who would need so much training? It doesn't make sense.

BlueBlueElectric · 19/11/2020 10:23

Nothing could make This Morning worse than it already is, its dire. Why would anyone watch it unless tied to a chair with eye clamps forcing their eyes open?

ElspethFlashman · 19/11/2020 10:28

I don't understand how she's so unprepared.

She's literally been on TM since 2003!!!

Don't tell me this is the first day she's had to step in in 17 years.

BlueBlueElectric · 19/11/2020 10:29

Dermot O'Dreay is awful as well when we were doing up our house a few years ago the only station we could get was Radio 2. Dermot's show was awful and he was so self regarding and obsessed with fame and name dropping. Holly and Holly come across as smug and judgmental anytime I've had the misfortune of seeing any of it which thankfully isn't often.

Farewelltoqualms · 19/11/2020 10:34

Bring back Richard and Judy

MonicaGellerBing · 19/11/2020 10:35

She's better than bloody Davina who is on today. She's pathetic, not funny and past it. Can't stand her

HaHaVeryBunny · 19/11/2020 10:52

Whoever said bring back Sarah Green was bang on. She was great when she filled in last year, relaxed and a true professional.
I like Alison too she brings a different dimension to interviews but she might be suited to more lightweight content such as celebs and the like.
