What calms you down when you feel like your head is going to fall off?

I've had a day, more like week from hell, work stress wise. I feel like my head is going to explode or fall off! I was thinking how nice it would be to have a massage right now (if only!).

What things do you do after a shitty day that instantly calm you down? I'd really appreciate some suggestions and others might find some helpful ideas!

A speed walk/stomp for a couple of miles

Unfortunately tonight I have chosen to eaten several hundred calories of chocolate instead of doing any of the above Blush

thegcatsmother · 17/11/2020 20:53

A mug of Fortnum's Smoked Earl Grey, the sofa to myself apart from the cat, and complete silence.

elizabethdraper · 17/11/2020 20:54

Putting on my weighted blanket and putting a podcast on

A bath with epson salt, lavender and a book

A long walk

Healing sounds on Alexa

Multiple glasses of brandy/gin/rum

Beaniebeemer · 17/11/2020 20:55

Diazepam

BrutusMcDogface · 17/11/2020 20:56

I feel exactly like this right now.

SittingAround1 · 17/11/2020 20:58

A relaxing bath with a cup of herbal tea.

Oryxx · 17/11/2020 20:59

Dunno. My day was crazy busy and I’ve dealt with it by ingesting several hundred additional calories in the form of carbs and sugar. Now I feel even more shit.

I need better coping strategies.

Chamberlai · 17/11/2020 20:59

Gin. Not even joking.

toomanyplants · 17/11/2020 21:00

Wine. I wish I could say meditation, yoga, herbal tea etc
But no, wine, large.

Kittykat93 · 17/11/2020 21:01

Wine! And bubble bath.

Cheesewine · 17/11/2020 21:02

Roasting hot bubble bath , an ice cold alcoholic drink. (in the bath) and candles. Sometimes in silence sometimes with music.

Ihatesandwiches · 17/11/2020 21:02

Bath, silence or very loud music I can sing along to, aggressive hoovering. Everything looks better after hoovering. A silent scream, texted to a friend and a chat after. I'm quite chilled but did all of these today!

BikeRunSki · 17/11/2020 21:03

A walk, run, bike ride or swim outdoors

A couple of pulls on a joint

Fucket · 17/11/2020 21:10

I watch my favourite old movies, ones which I’ve watched a thousand times over and I can sort of escape into without having to concentrate.

I can’t drink alcohol anymore (medication) so I’ve had to find other ways to relax.

MitziK · 17/11/2020 21:19

Lights off. All of them.

No artificially generated sound, ie, TV, radio, computer, phone, tablet, stereo, microwave, etc, etc - just the sounds of outside (traffic, birds, the wind or rain) or 'analogue ones indoors (DP chopping veggies, the DTwatCat pootling around, the sound of DP sweeping the floor or cleaning the countertops, etc).

Most of all, nobody talking at me or asking anything of me. Just for twenty minutes; the first twenty minutes since 5.0myGodit'sEarly that morning.

Silence, darkness, no demands on my brain.

FatBottomGirl99 · 17/11/2020 21:19

Excersise, hot shower or bath, sex or get the rampant rabbit out if he's not in the mood followed by a film and lashings of ice cream 🐇🍧😁

DK123 · 17/11/2020 21:20

Thanks everyone! First time in a while I've been so desperate to open a bottle of wine but I know I'll feel worse for it tomorrow and I already know I'll be waking up to a barrage more of emails of people stressing at each other to deal with!

Very hot shower, lots of smelly things, and then diamond painting and a brew when I get downstairs afterwards :).

Nsky · 17/11/2020 22:00

Sleep and cat cuddles

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 17/11/2020 22:05

I'm terrible at this, I've reached for a drink this evening after an insanely stressful few days and I wish I had better coping mechanisms. I'd love to throw myself into yoga at times like this, but when my head feels like it's going to explode with stress I can't motivate myself. All I want to do is hide!

Do weighted blankets really work? I think I want one...

SEE123 · 17/11/2020 22:15

I find that I start having sensory sensitivity when my stress levels go up; noise, lights, being pulled on by the baby, bother me significantly more. I basically "reset" they day. Stop whatever I am doing. Turn everything off noise wise. Quick tidy if everything is dishevelled. Go outside for some fresh air - literally a few minutes. Fresh cup of tea. Whole thing takes maybe 20-30 mins tops, but I'm more level headed and focused once I go back to whatever it was that was stressful, and even though it still is, removing all the other stuff and taking the breather helps me to keep focus and not let it get on top of me as much.

SEE123 · 17/11/2020 22:16

@LindaEllen out of curiosity what is diamond painting? Am I being really thick...?

BecomeStronger · 17/11/2020 22:18

Run.

I like the "idea" of a nice indulgent bath but find I'm bored as soon as I get in.
