What calms you down when you feel like your head is going to fall off?

I've had a day, more like week from hell, work stress wise. I feel like my head is going to explode or fall off! I was thinking how nice it would be to have a massage right now (if only!).

What things do you do after a shitty day that instantly calm you down? I'd really appreciate some suggestions and others might find some helpful ideas!

Dancing with my Bluetooth earphones in.
Or a session of Zumba.

Then gin.

@Gancanny it sounds wonderful

BugCatcher879 · 18/11/2020 00:45

Fresh air. If inside and its 3am open windows wide and stand at them. Otherwise outside for a walk.

The Wedding Date. Sometimes I watch it multiple times back-to-back. Then I put on my favourite songs from it & dance around doing some cleaning, that way I feel like I've accomplished something & end up in a more positive frame of mind. I have considered starting every day with a cheesy chick-flick from my teens, that way I might actually have a clean house... It's literally the only time I actually feel like cleaning. No idea why - it certainly didn't have that effect on me as a teenager!

Champagne and/or alternate nostril breathing

Lie on the bed. Turn on Radio 3.

A walk in nature, or weirdly touching old buildings or walls grounds me somehow. There’s something about the coolness and the history in an old church or similar that instantly soothes and calms me. I feel like a weirdo doing it but hey ho.

StarlightLady · 18/11/2020 03:17

It takes batteries and lives in my bedside drawer. Does the trick!

A game called SRCH!

@DrizzleandDamp I’ve had times when my lifestyle was like yours and it’s partly a mindset thing - sorry if that sounds patronising it’s not meant in that way. I worked in a really intense (work-wise) office where the boss really encouraged self-care so there was free yoga offered three lunchtimes per week and it was so amazing. I later worked in more conventional set-ups and tried to take that attitude with me, so eg when I had a long commute to a stressful job I often listened to Mindfulness podcasts on the train. I also gave up caffeine doing that job as it helped me reduce anxiety levels. For me yoga is an absolute sanity saver so by hook or by crook I’m finding time to do some even if it’s only a 20 minute session.

Hot bath

Dance around the living room to some loud music

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/11/2020 21:08

going for a walk (preferably in daylight) or a run.
or play (badly) a musical instrument.

nancybotwinbloom · 18/11/2020 21:28

@Seafog

I smoke weed, I'm in Canada where it is legal, government inspected and taxed. It helps with being calm, it helps me sleep and with my muscle spasms.

I know it's not for everyone, but it can be a help

It's a shame that currently in the uk it's not really recognised as a medicine.

The stereotype is still very poor. Which is in part mostly true where I live and for that reason people who would actually benefit from using it won't try it because of this.

Like my neighbour who is 88 and dying of cancer who would benefit from the pain relief.

WarmHeyerette · 18/11/2020 21:35

Solitaire on my phone. Just focusing on which card goes on the next. And the next... etc

Seafog · 18/11/2020 21:45

@nancybotwinbloom that is sad to hear, and hopefully in the near future, the government in the UK will be willing to learn from others (not just Canada) who are moving past that ' dirty skeet druggie' attitude

Being alone really helps. Outside is also good.

Its the worst thing about working from home, I don't get that downtime of commuting home. Walking from the dining room to front room doesn't have the same effect, then I get 9YO DD bugging me as soon as she hears the laptop close.
