Does anyone actually pay for mumsnet premium?

I'm quiet new here and I was just wondering if anyone actually pays for premium? I'd understand if it was some sort of charity, but if not the premium features don't seem worth it.

Me - they sent a plea for help during this year and I've relied on Mumsnet a lot in the last ten years for many different things and had some truly amazing support at an incredibly difficult time in my life.

I visit Mumsnet multiple times a day and there is so much knowledge from many different areas of life which I find so useful. Plus it gives me such a laugh! So many laughs and I need those in my life!

I know I can get all of that for free but I get no ads and they get £5 a month. Fine by me.

Rockbird · 16/11/2020 14:51

Me too, for the exact same reasons as ImpatientWino, although I've been here about 14 years. My youngest is 8 now but MN was priceless during the early baby years, I don't know what I would have done without it.

Xiaoxiong · 16/11/2020 14:55

Me three, for all the same reasons. MN has been a bastion of common sense and reason for the decade I've been using it and paying for premium is cheap for what I've got out of this place over the years. And it reduces their reliance on ads, which is even better. I'd rather they are beholden to MNers, rather than advertisers, for making decisions that affects the community.

RunningFromInsanity · 16/11/2020 15:10

No. Why would I pay for something I could get for free.

bilbodog · 16/11/2020 15:10

Me - im on here all the time - has kept me moderately sane during lockdown!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2020 15:12

I do, to support MN who allow the Feminism board to exist despite it damaging their business, and because Im always happy to pay to remove advertising.

Bloodybridget · 16/11/2020 15:20

Yes, I subscribed when they first requested it, because I've been using the site a lot for many years and I'm happy to support it. And losing the ads is brilliant.

Topseyt · 16/11/2020 15:24

No. The free site gives me everything I want so no need to pay.

ohbabyxox · 16/11/2020 16:09

I don't think I've ever seen an ad on here and I don't pay premium? Are we supposed to get ads?

S111n20 · 16/11/2020 16:12

No I don’t pay.

satnighttakeaway · 16/11/2020 16:16

You must have a really good adblocker, they are literally everywhere if you don't
AnnaSW1 · 16/11/2020 16:27

@ohbabyxox I've never seen an ad either and I don't pay

ImaSababa · 16/11/2020 16:30

No. I can't take the risk of being banned for "transphobia" for stating biological facts.

katy1213 · 16/11/2020 16:31

I'd pay for a Mumsnet lock - such a waste of time and so addictive.

Insertfunnyname · 16/11/2020 16:32

Yes me too for the same reasons. They sent a plea for help and the last 10 years for me would have looked very different without the help and advice of mumsnet.

I don’t begrudge it.

Twinkie01 · 16/11/2020 16:35

Been here 18 years in one guise or another and have got ripped to shreds and been given loads of good advice.

Twinkie01 · 16/11/2020 16:35

Sorry that's why I'm happy to give £5 a month

BoobsOnTheMoon · 16/11/2020 16:40

Me, site is much more usable without the ads and I reckon I've had my money's worth if I take into account the 18 years I've been here Grin

theconstantinoplegardener · 16/11/2020 16:42

I do. I've learnt such a lot on Mumsnet because it covers such a huge range of topics (obviously I don't take the word of Mumsnetters as gospel, but it's often a good place to start). Over the years, it's provided me with reassurance, advice, entertainment and sometimes just a different perspective, which has made me revisit my own opinions on various things. I think it's particularly useful on sensitive topics that I would hesitate to bring up with real-life friends. For these reasons, I'm happy to support it.

AlternativePerspective · 16/11/2020 16:47

No. They’re a multi million pound business and given the fact that many of their users are currently facing redundancy and having to cut costs in their own right, their begging ploy of “we’re in such hard times” thread was in extremely bad taste.

Maybe cut some of their £360k monthly salary bill first....

Ha, no!

lockupyourcinammon · 16/11/2020 17:04

No. I might if they took a hard line on TRAs dictating to them

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 16/11/2020 17:25

No. And I won't even consider it until they sort my issue of not being able to create new posts, despite asking nicely and being extremely patient.

First time they said they were looking into it then didn't bother. Now they're saying it's not a priority. If I'm not theirs, paying out for a free service isn't mine 🤷🏻‍♀️

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/11/2020 17:58

No. I post knowing I could be banned for calling a man a man at any moment.

I won't pay until they agree to letting us discuss women's rights without having to keep a weather eye on transactivist trolls!

If they just stopped allowing non members to complain, report posts that could lead to a permanent ban, that'd probably do it!
