Anyone sent a Peloton bike back?

DH likes the idea of one when the weather is rubbish rather than going out on his road bike.

Since WFH full time due to covid my exercise is almost 0 and my motivation is about the same but my comfort eating is 100% so I need to get a handle on my health.

If I said I would use one DH would jump at getting it but I just can't decide whether all the reviews about it being addictive would apply to me. I have read the threads about the cheaper alternatives but if we were going to do something like this it would be a Peloton. But I just am not sure. Would it be a clothes hanger only being used by DH occasionally?

Recent threads on here seem to be of people raving about them but just wondering whether anyone has sent one back or sold theirs because they just couldn't be bothered with it?

I love my Pelton and even kids go on it. Yes not cheap but I think worth it. Also love the wide range of classes so if I don't fancy the bike I can do something else. Had ours since May and still use 2/3 a week.

BiteyShark · 15/11/2020 08:48

I am tempted by the fact that there is strength training as I do that a bit anyway but getting bored so having classes is appealing.

One of the things that is putting me off the cheaper iPad setups is that I find the iPad small and the larger peloton screen is appealing along with the beefed up speakers on the new model for the music.

The 3+ month wait is a pain Sad but wouldn't want the older model.

I think there is a misconception that it is just an expensive exercise bike. First the app offers much more than just spinning, strength, yoga, running, there’s loads to choose from. There are live classes and in demand so you can choose to work out when you like. The classes are all different lengths so you can hop on for 20 minutes or do an hour if you you have more time.

The instructions in my experience are fantastic. They’re all very different so you can choose a class dependant on the kind of mood you’re in.

It’s also a very decent bit of kit. It’s like saying a Vauxhall nova and a rolls Royce are just cars.

I love mine and am happy to be laughed at as a member of the cult. However if you did want to get rid I’m sure you’d find a buyer as the waiting lists are long and they are expensive so a second hand option would be quite attractive to a lot of people I’d have thought. If you want a discount code PM me.

MotheringShites · 15/11/2020 08:51

You won’t regret it OP. It’s the best bit of kit we’ve ever had. I’ll be getting on ours later this morning.

Duvetdweller · 15/11/2020 08:52

Instructors not instructions!!

BiteyShark · 15/11/2020 09:03

Duvetdweller thanks for the offer. Have PM'ed you.

I have a Peleton, never done a spin class in my life.

I absolutely love it, it's so easy to just get on and do 10-20 mins here and there.

I've started living in leggings so that I can nip on the bike while I'm waiting for dinner to cook or husband is watching something on TV that I'm not interested in.

I'm struggling health wise so on a good day can only do a beginners class but there's loads of good classes as well as the bike.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 15/11/2020 09:30

Are all the classes spin-style? I really fancy being able to to VR tours of beautiful places as a bit of escapism.

ineedsun · 15/11/2020 09:32

Tours as well, you can choose by location and length of the ride.

Duvetdweller · 15/11/2020 09:34

Also you can have as many separate profiles as you want on the membership - so the whole family can use it for the same price

RNBrie · 15/11/2020 09:36

I went from almost no exercise to being a regular Pelotoner. I looked at the cheaper alternatives but I wanted the app because it's been thought through so we'll to make it as addictive as possible. It's definitely worked on me, I'm currently in the middle of an "every day in lockdown" challenge I set myself Grin

If you do take the plunge, PM me for a code that will give you £100 off... which isn't very much but it all helps!!

PegasusReturns · 15/11/2020 09:37

I also use a turbo train and zwift and an iPad mount on the handle bars Grin

It has the benefit that when weather is good you can take the bike off and go for a spin (although we have one bike set up permanently).

doodleygirl · 15/11/2020 09:37

I think you need to remember it is just a bike, it’s up to you to get get on. Maybe download the Peleton app and start doing the classes.

I use Peleton for the outdoor runs and the classes. I hate spinning so won’t buy a bike but I have managed to maintain fitness throughout lockdown by being disciplined.

didireallysaythat · 15/11/2020 09:42

Changing the subject slightly - where do you put the bike/kit? Would it fit in a shed? I'm trying to imagine where we would fit it in - not keen on having a bike in the kitchen-diner/living room. If it's in use all the time it will disrupt the rest of the house, if it's not in use it will sit there, taunting me, making me realise I don't have the motivation to get fit....

Jemimapuddleduk · 15/11/2020 09:44

We bought a peloton in September and it has been life changing. Both DH and I use it on average 5 or 6 times a week. It works out cheaper than our DL membership and it is so easy to squeeze a 30/45 min class into a busy day. It has improved my mental health hugely and I love the music themed rides (Dolly Parton, Britney Spears, queen ride etc!). It literally makes exercise easy and fun. The instructors are hugely engaging.
One word of warning go for peloton rather than peloton plus. Firstly it’s cheaper and from comments on the peloton uk fb group there seem to have been teething issues with the plus. The advantage with plus is you can swivel/move screen but with original you can actually screen share off phone app onto tv so does the same thing! If you want to yoga or meditation class on different tv/room you can.
If any of you other peloton peeps fancy an exercise thread/support group chat I’d love that!

ineedsun · 15/11/2020 09:46

Ours is in the living room. We have a big through lounge with the door half way down one wall. The TV etc is at one end and the Peleton is at the other so it's not always in view (with the door open you can't see it) but it's easy to use without removing myself from family life.

We are fortunate we have a spare room that can be easily converted and has enough space to do the non bike classes as well.

I don't think the bike looks like it takes up much room. Maybe look at the dimensions of the bike mat they suggest using. But to do floor exercises you are going to need more space than that.

Following- I really don't have the ££ for a Peleton but really want one! I am struggling to go running post baby (am a fair weather runner and there isn't much of that at the moment!) and can't commit to an exercise class yet with an unpredictable 5 month old.

Those suggesting alternatives with Peleton subscription- do these require you to have a normal bike? As I don't have one - am a poor real world cyclist- so would need to buy some sort of spin bike.

doodleygirl · 15/11/2020 10:15

@pegase you don’t need a Peleton bike to do the classes you just need a spin bike. Try a free subscription for a month, google Peleton app.

Pegase · 15/11/2020 10:17

Is the main advantage of the Peleton bike the screen then?

Duvetdweller · 15/11/2020 10:47

There’s also lots more classes besides the bike. I think you can sign up and get a months free subscription?

chillied · 15/11/2020 11:47

If a peloton bike has good resale value - could you buy a second hand one instead to beat the waiting list/ save money?

ineedsun · 15/11/2020 12:33

The plus has auto follow so the resistance increases and reduces automatically on the spin classes, the screen is huge and turns (which I think it doesn't on the normal one).

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 15/11/2020 12:44

@biteyshark if I were you I wouldn't pay extra for the new model. My brother has the one before the upgrade came out and thinks the upgrade isn't worth it (and he is a serious cyclist).

I'd love one but as soon as my gym reopens I'm there and I can't justify the cost on top of gym fees. I'm a massive spin fan, do 3 or 4 classes a week on top of swimming. It's addictive and really great cardio exercise.

BiteyShark · 15/11/2020 12:44

Bought. Now just need to wait almost 5 months for delivery 🤣
