Hello ladies!
My son is 2 years old and currently sleeps in his 120cm cotbed with its rails still on.
There are many pretty toddler beds online.
But what size should i go for?
Toddler 160cm or single 190cm?

What beds did you get your little ones ?
Thanks ia Smile

Straight to a single.

nomorespaghetti · 13/11/2020 20:43

I got a toddler bed, but it’s so not worth it. They’re only in it for such a short time. Definitely go for a single

TwinMum89 · 13/11/2020 20:44

I would recommend a single. My 15 month old twins are already in single size floor beds.

Both mine went into single beds

MyNameForToday1980 · 13/11/2020 20:45

If you've got space, straight to single.

DD has a small room but is too young for a cabin bed (which saves space under the bed), so we'll get a 160cm bed until she's 5 or 6 (when we won't worry about her falling to her doom in the night).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/11/2020 20:45

Normal single.

SunshineOutdoors · 13/11/2020 20:47

Single but I’m saying that as a soft touch who ended up in it with them a lot of the time... actually make it a double if you can manage it Grin

jasmin93 · 13/11/2020 20:47

Thank you for your response!
Now its time to go online and make a final decision and order it.

Any tips and ideas how to make the transition to a single easier for a toddler?

Normal single bed. Why spend more than you need? I wld start by taking rails off the one you've got as an intro. He will fall out. I put spare quilts on floor to soften fall.

dementedpixie · 13/11/2020 20:51

Why are you wanting to move them? Ds was in his cot until 2½ years old

scrivette · 13/11/2020 20:51

Single and I would roll up a blanket under the fitted sheet (apparently a pool noodle works as well) at first to discourage rolling out.

NameChange30 · 13/11/2020 20:52

"My son is 2 years old and currently sleeps in his 120cm cotbed with its rails still on."

Is it a cot with fixed rails that you can't remove - (usually 120cm long) or a cot bed that can be converted into a toddler bed by removing the rails (usually 140cm long)?

If it's a cot I can see why you'd consider getting a toddler bed first, as cot to single bed is quite a big change. But I think it will be fine if you get a low single bed with a good bed guard.

OTOH, if you actually have a cot bed that's 140cm long, you can take the bars off and convert it to a toddler bed, and should be able to use it for another couple of years.

PowerslidePanda · 13/11/2020 20:55

Get a low one, if you can - so they can get in and out of it themselves and when they fall out, it's not too far to go. We've got an IKEA Nordli and the bed is few inches longer than the mattress, which works well because it acts like a little step at the end of the bed.

kowari · 13/11/2020 20:58

Cot size toddler bed until he started school then a single. 160 doesn't save much space and you need new bedding twice that way.

PowerslidePanda · 13/11/2020 21:00

Something I should mention about the Nordli though - it is just a mattress on a flat base, there's no lip for the mattress. Doesn't stop you using a bed guard with it, but if you have the kind of child who wants to muck around it with, it will move more easily.

NewCatMummy · 13/11/2020 21:03

Older two- cot to single bed, no sides age 26 months. Was fine. Younger one- cot bed, then took sides off so toddler bed age 18 months then cabin bed age 4.5. Back to low single bed age 9. All in double/king size as tweens/early teens as too tall to be comfortable in a single.

AriesTheRam · 13/11/2020 21:03

We did cot bed with sides down til 3 then into a small double

Bluntness100 · 13/11/2020 21:05

Straight to single with protectors at the side so she didn’t roll out. Made it a big exciting thing, ooh getting a big girl bed, was no issue.

BluSpider · 13/11/2020 21:07

I tried a small single bed and it was an absolute pain because I’d end up lying on the floor next to the bed when he needed comforting. So he is now in a double bed. If he wakes up during the night I can get in with him. If he’s sick I can sleep with him. If his cousin comes to stay they can both get in together. Much easier.

Boringnamechanging · 13/11/2020 21:07

Ds ikea kura bed at just 2. Full size single but low to floor which can flip to a low cabin bed with play space under when he is sensible enough

Dd Still in her cotbed (almost 2) with sides on but just starting to try and get her leg up and over so I need to find where the toddler bed side is so I can convert. The room is small so don't want to put a full single until I have too.

So if you have the space and your cot doesn't convert to a bed then I'd go for a full single.

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 13/11/2020 21:07

Mine all went straight into full sized singles with a bed guard at around 18 months.

AlphaJura · 13/11/2020 21:12

Well I'm going to buck the trend and say toddler bed, for my 2.5 year old who has just moved into her new room. That's because she's the youngest of 3 and has the smallest box room. With a toddler bed, the room looks larger and she can fit a small chest of drawers and an ottoman for sitting/storage. From past experience, I know if a full size single is in that room, it takes up one side of the room, not leaving much space for toys or anything else. Her older sister was in the same room with a cot bed bed, and even though they say up to age 4, it lasted her until she was about 6. So that's about 4 more years until we have to think about rearranging things. It's also lower so no worries about her getting in and out or falling.

FlanBake · 13/11/2020 21:12

One of mine was in a cot bed until 4, the other in a single bed at 2!

NameChange30 · 13/11/2020 21:18

YY good point about toddler bed being better than a single if the room is small.

DC1 (3) is in the second bedroom and we got him a single bed. But DC2 is in the smaller third bedroom and we will keep her in the cot bed (converted into toddler bed, with bars off) until she outgrows it so hopefully not until she is about 5. Then we'll have to get her a mid sleeper / cabin bed type thing so we can actually fit other stuff in the room!

whensmynexthol1day · 13/11/2020 21:18

Mine went straight into a king! We had a spare bedstead so thought we might as well use it. Thought it might mean she might stop coming into our bed in the middle of the night- but it made no difference. It's nice to read stories together in though.
