Hello ladies!
My son is 2 years old and currently sleeps in his 120cm cotbed with its rails still on.
There are many pretty toddler beds online.
But what size should i go for?
Toddler 160cm or single 190cm?

What beds did you get your little ones ?
Thanks ia Smile

Mine went from cotbed with sides off at 10months (he was a climber) and into a toddler bed around 16months. He doesn't have a guard on the side either.
The first week of the sides coming off his cotbed he slept on the floor 🤣 luckily fingers crossed he hasn't fallen out of bed yet... He 2 now and loves his bed.

Ds2 age 7, is still in a cheap 160 Ikea junior bed. He's a bit small for his age but the bed was originally ds1's who was in it til the same age.

We're getting him a cabin bed next year as he could do with the storage space so didnt want to move him straight into a single.

If you've got the space though there's no advantage to having an intermediate bed.

Currently we do not have much space.
We are living in a 1bed flat to save up money for a mortgage.
In our bedroom we could technically fit a single bed (moving around furniture). It wont look pretty but it might work.
The only thing that stops me from buying a big bed is that we are currently trying for baby no. 2. There is no chance i could fit a single, a super kind and a cot into one bedroom.
I know we wont be staying in this flat forever but only god knows when we are going to find an affordable home in our area.

Sooo. Toddler bed sounds decent. When he can stay in a 160cm bed for 3 years lets say, i have already won. Then afterwards his sibling can have it.

Why can't he stay in the cot for now?

Tararararara · 13/11/2020 22:27

Put the cot mattress on the floor next to the new bed, in case he rolls out.

We went straight to single and bought a single with trundle. For the first few months I pulled the trundle out at bedtime in case he rolled off. He only did once or twice though.

lovescaca · 13/11/2020 22:27

Mines ds 3 will be in his cotbed (no sides at all) until he's 4 then a small double

NatalieH2220 · 13/11/2020 22:29

We moved our son from his cot to a toddler bed at 2.5. He's been in it a year now and will last him another 6-12 months. I think he'd have struggled to go straight into a single in terms of climbing in/out and is also in a small room so this way he has more space.

jasmin93 · 13/11/2020 22:31

@dementedpixie he is getting too big for it. When he turns around at night he hits the bed and wakes himself (& me) up. It doesnt happen every night but i guess its a hint for me to look for a new bed.
Besides, id rather have him out of that cotbed and give it to new baby. I know i still have time for that but you never know how well he takes a bigger bed and big change.
Guess i am overthinking xx

Straight to single. But if your toddler still has the sides on id take them off and get them used to sleeping without the sides before putting them in the single.

NameChange30 · 13/11/2020 22:41

Sorry but I think you're a bit mad to try for a second child when you're in a one bedroom flat Confused I would want to be in a position to move into a two bedroom property (even if I hadn't actually moved yet) before TTC.

But if you must, definitely get a toddler bed and not a single. You'll need to save space. With a toddler bed and a bedside crib it should be ok for a bit. Space-wise, I mean! But I would worry about the children waking each other up!

DD went into our spare bed which was a double when her brother needed the cot at about 21 months . DS started climbing out of the cot at about 18 months so they shared the bed until we had a rejig when they were older and had normal single beds.

Pipandmum · 13/11/2020 22:45

My son was 20 months when my daughter was born so he went into a single bed then. I put a rail up one side (the other side was against the wall). No biggie about the transition, he was excited to move to a big boys bed!

MyNameForToday1980 · 13/11/2020 23:12

IKEA (and I'm sure other places) do extendable beds that extend from 140cm to 160cm to 200cm so you'd need three mattresses over the years, but it could grow with the him.

MyNameForToday1980 · 13/11/2020 23:12

'the him' = bedtime for me.

38weekswithno2 · 13/11/2020 23:17

DS was in his cot bed with sides up til 2.5 then sides off until the month before he turned 4. It was pretty big though so no space problem.

He then moved straight into a single bed with a bed guard as he rolls about in his sleep 🙈

clareykb · 13/11/2020 23:25

I'd say toddler bed in your case. I get the arguement about having to buy twice for so get a single but if you don't have space then toddler beds are fine. We have two s who share a smallish room in out old house they were in toddler beds until we moved and they got their own rooms at almost 6. In single beds in our old house there would have been zero space to play x

Nat6999 · 14/11/2020 00:00

Ds went in a single divan bed with a side rail on at first, then removed the side rail, then a mid sleeper with room to play underneath, now a double as a 6 foot teenager.

Caterina99 · 14/11/2020 00:56

DS moved into a single at age just 2 as DD was due. He’d been in the cot bed with the side off for a few months.

DD turned 3 in oct and is completely fine in the cot bed with the side off, been like that for about 6 months. I’ve no plans to buy her a new bed in the next year, unless she really grows out of it (she is tall). My friends 5 year old still sleeps in a cot bed and seems perfectly happy

If space is an issue then buy a toddler bed unless your child is really tall. I’d say you have a couple of years you can use it

kowari · 14/11/2020 04:35

It could easily fit longer than that. We had a mattress that size as a spare and I could sleep on it on the floor comfortably at 165cm.

Only downsides are buying twice, and once they go to school, friends asking why they have a small bed.

2020nymph · 14/11/2020 08:17

DS1 was in a cot bed but moved into a. Single at 4. Ds2 is in a cot bed, but we are looking at getting DS1 a cabin bed and then DS2 will have his single bed.
