Anyone got lots of Christmas events planned for December? What type of things will you be doing?

Nothing I don't see the point with restrictions, I'll wait until after lockdown but I doubt will be doing very much this year .

BogRollBOGOF · 12/11/2020 16:16

There's nothing attractive avaliable.

Who wants to stand 2m away from a masked up Santa Envy I know I have my mask issues, but DH who can and does wear one, also has no interest in voluntarily going to places where they are required for more than a few minutes.

All the lovely community things that build up the Christmas atmosphere, school events, carol services are off.

Lots more squelching through mud it is. Yey.

No we won't be going anywhere this Christmas. Most things have been cancelled and why would you even want to go anywhere that you could catch covid?
I have lots of things planned for indoors. We are doing Christmas crafts, baking, decorating a gingerbread house, watching Christmas movies etc etc.

Lots of things are on in my area, skating rinks, Panto, Santa at the garden centre.
I find this amazing seeing as the UK recorded over 30,000 new Covid cases today and over 500 deaths.
It’s really worrying

Meeting friends for walks and coffees/lunch. Dinners in nice places with my boyfriend. Takeaways with DCs. Not very festive but I want to be vaguely sociable and I want to support businesses by spending some money (my income has been unaffected by the virus, I’m lucky there).

Ginfordinner · 12/11/2020 23:01

Living in South Yorkshire, which was in tier 3 before lockdown I didn't see any point in planning or booking anything at all.

The only thing I can see happening is a Teams Christmas "party" and quiz with my workmates.

We’ve got ice skating - big wheel - lights - Father Christmas/

Have managed to book quite a few bits. Going to see Santa arrive on his sleigh with live reindeer at a local farm tomorrow. Have a virtual reality sleigh ride booked first week of Dec. Going to Chester Zoo lanterns and staying over in a hotel in Dec. Have got a booth booked with cocktails, pizza, karaoke and Santa visit in outdoor pop up venue in Liverpool. Have a few restaurants booked for friend/family get togethers. Also have Six booked at the Lowry theatre in Jan in lieu of a pantomime which has been confirmed as going ahead. So hopefully shouldn't be a complete lost cause it all goes to plan

Ginfordinner · 13/11/2020 21:01

Are you optimistic about all of these happening @XiCi?

XiCi · 13/11/2020 21:07

All the events yes Ginfordinner. Most are outdoors and organised to comply with social distancing. Six has been moved to a bigger theatre so guests can be socially distanced. Not sure about the meals out with friends and family but rates here plummeting daily and have been since before lockdown so am optimistic they'll take place in some form, yes.

shinynewapple2020 · 13/11/2020 21:51

Where do you live @XiCi ?

Ginfordinner · 13/11/2020 23:17

We currently have 480 cases per 100k where I live (South Yorkshire), and were in tier 3 before lockdown. I don't envisage any events similar to what you are planning XiCi happening in my area.

We are purple on this map and there are nearly 300 staff at our local hospital self isolating.

@SquishySquirmy

Sorry didn't want to be negative. That's what we did last weekend actually and it wasnt too bad. I actually (genuinely not being sarcastic) love car picnics when its raining. Eating crisps and drinking tea all cosy while the rain beats down on the windows, maybe listening to Christmas music to make it festive.... lovely!

But we are not really planning the usual Christmas stuff this year. Might go and see Santa at the garden centre or similar if that's still on, and we will "do" stuff but nothing that involves travelling far or crowds. Baking, crafts, outdoor walks and mulling things.

I love car picnics too...classic British pastime! In fact whenever I am waiting in the car in the rain it reminds me of being on holiday Grin

I can't understand some peoples defeatist attitude in saying there's no point in booking anything 🙄. We have booked loads and we have been informed they're still happening:

Christmas at Dunham Massey
Lapland UK
Christmas event at an outdoor playground with marquee
Christmas railway ride meeting Santa

Maybe it's different because I have a 4 year old so I couldn't imagine not making plans for Christmas. It's a magical time for them and its only a small time frame being able to do all these things with them x
