Anyone got lots of Christmas events planned for December? What type of things will you be doing?

@AlexaShutUp

Doesn't make sense to plan much yet, surely? We might still be in lockdown.
Er no we won't, lockdown ends on 2nd December.
BikeRunSki · 12/11/2020 12:12

Strangely enough l have nothing planned.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/11/2020 12:14

Weve got a Sant train booked. Optimistic, but alsoknoq it could not happen.
Same with the Cubs Christmas party

A coyple if years ago we had Christmas events to attend every day from late November to Christmas day. It was exhausting. Some days had more than one thing on. (My dD had 7/8 different choir performances for example).

Somewhete between the two extremes would be nice.

A socially distanced Christmas show, a walk through an arboretum with all the trees lit up, and an outdoor santa grotto. Or usual one is doing a thing with VR headsets but no way will DD keep that on her head!

Whether it happens or not remains to be seen.

Then obviously the usual getting the decs up with xmas music, DD will nearly be 3 so she gets it this year and will no doubt be enthusiastically helping Grin

You're living in cloud cuckoo if you think everything is going back to normal three weeks from now!

Aposterhasnoname · 12/11/2020 12:17

Doing a winter wonderland light show thingy at the zoo, probably the same one mentioned upthread. If the food serving pubs are allowed to open back up we’ll be going to a local one a few times as they do a fab three course festive menu in December. Garden centre to look at Christmas decs, there was going to be a little craft market locally, it was only announced just before lockdown, so if that’s still on we’ll go.

Viv0321 · 12/11/2020 12:18

Hay- there’s no travel restrictions in wales and everything is open after their lockdown.

I didn't say everything would go back to normal, I'm well aware that we won't. But lockdown will and should end on 2 December as we have been told.
Bumblebee1980a · 12/11/2020 12:46

Yes. I have booked: Lapland UK and staying at Coworth park for a few days, Christmas at Dunham Massey, Christmas at an indoor and outdoor play centre, Christmas on a steam engine meeting Santa.

I love Christmas 🎄 and can't wait to see my DS little face.

Bumblebee1980a · 12/11/2020 12:49

Yes there is a virus but it's not going to stop me booking anything! The only one that might be cancelled is the train one meeting Santa. So glad we booked Lapland uk after lockdown finishes. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Christmas Eve we are going to have a picnic with lots of fairy lights by the Christmas tree and give DS his Christmas Eve box 💙

Viv0321 · 12/11/2020 12:50

Won’t go back to ‘normal’ but some things will be open for Xmas.

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 12/11/2020 13:02

The current lockdown ends on 2/12...

Everything I’d have booked is cancelled anyway.

Tararararara · 12/11/2020 13:11

I'm attending a wreath making workshop online - they send you the kit before hand (all the greenery and fabric, oasis and stuff) and then it's a live zoom-esq workshop where they help you design and make your own with what has been provided. They teamed up with a local café so your kit comes with some mince pies and Christmas treats and your choice of a drink.

We've also booked to do the a Christmas lights event at a local NT place - this could be cancelled but we should get a full refund if it isn't.

I'm not booking anything else. I am however planning some things for at home.

VenusClapTrap · 12/11/2020 13:16

Nothing. What’s the point.

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/11/2020 13:16

Oh you made me laugh @SquishySquirmy that sums it up!

Primary child will have a class performance which will be filmed and emailed. They will also have a class party.

That is it! We will do things like buy presents, write cards, decorate the tree and baking, but other than that - nada Sad

mam0918 · 12/11/2020 13:26

Pantomimes are currently schedual via national lottery grant but it was going to be £150 for 4 of us and we couldnt pick our seats, we arent that bothered (could spend that money on way better things) and my toddler likely wouldnt sit through it anyway.

We will do a resteraunt meal with Santa if the start back up (they where schedualled but then lockdown happened).

Never saw the point of xmas markets, too many people stress me out and its always freezing and too many lights and smells sets of a migrane.

We dont do mass, we are all from different churches and dont really attend that often now.

everything else is at home stuff isnt it?

like putting up the tree, watching film or st nicks feast etc...

Viv0321 · 12/11/2020 14:25

I honestly don’t think anything will be cancelled.

OP posts:
BiddyPop · 12/11/2020 15:11

No. Absolutely nothing.

Currently we are in lockdown, we hope to be released in early December but that's not guaranteed. And even if we are, we still need to be careful in order to not cause another spike in covid. I have an underlying condition which means I would likely have problems if I got covid so I have generally been restricting my movements since March.

My main intentions would be to keep meeting my Cub Scouts in small groups outdoors (I am a Leader), to get into my office a couple of times (I have been WFH FT since March and only been in to the office about 8 times, most of those necessary for dealing with Parliament), and to visit our DPs and DSiblings over the Christmas break (they are 2.5 hours away, we won't go for 25th, but have only seen them twice all year in person).

In terms of making sure Christmas itself is special, we can do that without going out to "events", although it would be good to get to mass over the season. We will have a nice meal and family quiet time (as even with Covid, we have continued to work extended hours at home and DD has continued to do a lot at school and her sports so needs chauffeuring around to sports training - so quieter time has not actually happened for us).

But we will not be going to pubs, out for big meals, major socialising, shopping during peak times etc.

Instead we will keep going for family walks when we are not otherwise busy, meet smaller groups of friends for coffee (or maybe mulled wine) outdoors when it is allowed, and have some nice treats and good books to be able to enjoy some quieter time. And going to see family when that is allowed.

Viv0321 · 12/11/2020 15:14

Biddy- that sounds nice. Do you have any DC?

OP posts:
FilledSoda · 12/11/2020 15:32

We haven't any plans although we don't generally do much anyway. I'd love to see my brother and family so I'm hoping visits will be allowed .
I have an autoimmune condition so I don't want to take any risks .

BiddyPop · 12/11/2020 16:00

Viv, yes I have a teenage DD who works very hard at school and spends most of her non-school time doing sport (she's at elite level in her main sport but plays all sorts to keep busy).

Christmas is very important in our house, and DD's birthday is straight after that.

shinynewapple2020 · 12/11/2020 16:01

@Viv0321

Hay- there’s no travel restrictions in wales and everything is open after their lockdown.
What Wales and England were told would happen after their respective firebreak / lockdowns was different . In England we have been told we will return to local tiers - and unless lockdown has an amazing effect on my local numbers we will go back into a higher tier than we were before (Sorry to derail the point of your thread )
Aparttogether · 12/11/2020 16:04

Nope. Nothing is on. Theatre closed. No lights switch on. No social get togethers as they would involve too many people.

shinynewapple2020 · 12/11/2020 16:05

I think the 4-nation agreement they are talking about is literally around the main Christmas period not for all December .
Hopefully if you live in an area with lower cases you may find more things open .

Thatwentbadly · 12/11/2020 16:10
