Would you attend a peaceful protest if a convicted paedophile moved into your street?

I’ve never attended anything similar before and I’m in two minds about going. He was convicted (I’ve read the newspaper articles which show his photo) and has been released after serving half his sentence. I don’t know if he owns the property but he’s moved in with his wife who stood by him. There’s a peaceful protest being arranged. Would you go?

I hope the people on here making thinly veiled threats of violence and murder don't end up with neighbours protesting because they don't wish to live near violent thugs who take the law into their own hands.

Thankfully we don't have state sanctioned murder anymore, that doesn't mean groups of vigilantes need to take over.

The guy is sick and disgusting, his wife isn't much better, I hate paedophiles, my whole life was destroyed by one, and I wouldn't
shed a tear if one died.

That just means I teach my own kids how to be safe, and I am careful with them around everyone. The problem is the peados you don't know about, not the ones you do know about.

Since when do people resort to mob justice and have good results?

MrsSpringfield · 11/11/2020 22:26

Yes, I would.
I have worked with many and never seen any real remorse. I have seen most assume the victim role. No sympathy for a person who raped a 5yr old here and much sympathy for the families with young kids on the road. So I would be supporting them and if protesting helps them vent their outrage, ok I'll protest too.

LangClegsInSpace · 11/11/2020 22:27

No. I understand the sentiment but it's a really bad idea.

HotPenguin · 11/11/2020 22:28

@BananaPop2020 my post was very clear that my aim in protesting wasn't to move him elsewhere but to raise awareness, please don't misrepresent what I said.

BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:30

@HotPenguin I completely apologise, I mis-read the word ‘wouldn’t’ for ‘would’!

TinyGhost · 11/11/2020 22:31

OP, you say I’m not the one organising it

Does the organiser want to drive him out of the street?

It’s safer for children if people know who he is and where he is.

If it was me, I wouldn’t like him living nearby either, but would not want to drive him underground.

If he moves elsewhere, he will be more of a danger if unknown, he could even change his identity etc.

This type of action does not keep children safe.

Nymeriastark1 · 11/11/2020 22:32

@PiperPiper20

No. But I'd dogshit his car door handles.
^ Yea this.
BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:32

@MrsSpringfield I truly hope you are no longer working in the field if that is your attitude.

SiSeniora · 11/11/2020 22:33

Honestly, people like that are only fit for the noose but as it stands, scum like him have to live somewhere. If we restricted thm to a compound with their likes they will just get even worse.
Bring back the death penalty!

Liftup · 11/11/2020 22:33

having had to deal with quite a few councils now about suitability of locations for play parks / open play areas i unfortunately found out there are paedophilea on a huge amount of streets. like.. a LOT around you in all areas.. I was totally shocked. while you know about this one, there's probably one you don't know about on the next street too. at least you know!

HotPenguin · 11/11/2020 22:33

@BananaPop2020 no worries!

Nicknacky · 11/11/2020 22:34

BananaPops2020 I agree re MrsSpringfield as that would be worrying.

I work in this field too. I wouldn’t go anywhere near these protests and my colleagues wouldn’t either.

@Nicknacky in a very similar boat to you, just a different agency.

Nicknacky · 11/11/2020 22:36

BananaPop2020 Have we spoken previously?

If someone like that moved down my road he wouldn’t be there for long, I would make sure of it and I don’t mean I’d get him to move somewhere else.

I think you need to find some scary men who can make him disappear

i see the keyboard warriors are out in force today. of course you would go round there and kill a man. of course everyone knows some shady, lawless men who would kill him.

what then? a parade? maybe an open-top bus and ticker tape to celebrate your rock-solid Internet Hardman credentials and your underworld connections?

i’m not in any way a paedophile sympathiser. i just think this ridiculous posturing is laughable.

AlexaShutUp · 11/11/2020 22:40

I understand your revulsion, OP, and the reasonable concerns of anyone in the neighbourhood who has young children, but realistically, where would you like him to live?

BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:40

@Nicknacky we have! We were both quite strident on a post a while back about an Inspector flashing a warrant card at a local takeaway looking for a freebie/discount. My husband is in the same field as you and I am a Probation Officer.

BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:41

@fucknuckle 😂😂

Nicknacky · 11/11/2020 22:41

BananaPop2020 Sorry, I have a crap memory for names😂

BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:43

@Nicknacky that’s ok, I have an annoying propensity to remember teeny details! Hope you are keeping well.

Nicknacky · 11/11/2020 22:44

BananaPop2020 I’m good thanks, you? Did we agree on the takeaway post?😂

ImFree2doasiwant · 11/11/2020 22:45

It's far safer for for everyone if people like this are kept track of. OP days he was convicted of raping a 5 yr old, and has served half his sentence (which is standard) he will be strigently monutored, be on the sex offenders register for a very long time, he will have been risk assessed, be required to present the police station /probation. He will have a list of conditions - no contact with anyone under 26 for example. Not to be housed near to school/park etc. I'm.not sure if you can find out these conditions, but that's what I would be putting my efforts into. Knowing the conditions and reporting him for any deviation from them.

copperoliver · 11/11/2020 22:45

They have to live somewhere.
Not if this country was run right, if it was they would all be hanged and good riddance to the lot is them.

BananaPop2020 · 11/11/2020 22:46

@Nicknacky 100% 😀. I was especially irritated as my husband is an Inspector and he would not dream of doing that.
