Would you attend a peaceful protest if a convicted paedophile moved into your street?

I’ve never attended anything similar before and I’m in two minds about going. He was convicted (I’ve read the newspaper articles which show his photo) and has been released after serving half his sentence. I don’t know if he owns the property but he’s moved in with his wife who stood by him. There’s a peaceful protest being arranged. Would you go?

no, i would not be a vigilante

howaboutholly · 12/11/2020 08:45

Oh come off it baby other prisoners don’t have ‘morals’ in the way that you mean.

canigooutyet · 12/11/2020 08:46

No I wouldn’t, as others have said protesting makes situations harder because they go underground. We need to keep them out in the open. And because they aren’t all monitored we need to keep them out in the open.

Every area has them just not all have their info in the news. As parents all we can do is hammer home stranger danger and intimate touch.

Mrsjayy · 12/11/2020 08:47

They are never peaceful why would you expect it to be peaceful , emotions are heightned a mob mentality sets in. Don't go

sashh · 12/11/2020 08:50

That 5 year old is never going to be peaceful so if I could do anything to ensure he doesn't get peace then rest assured, I'd do it. Pitchfork and all.

If you were the parent of the five year old would you want to know where his/her abuser was? Wouldn't you want to guarantee you can keep your child away?

That can only happen when the police / probation know where he is.

What ever your feelings about this man surely the safety and security of his victim should take priority.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/11/2020 08:53

I’m shocked no-one has responded to the link posted upthread where a vigilante mob beat a disabled man to death and set his body on fire because they mistook him for a convicted paedophile.

Would the posters advocating violence and murder be happy to risk that happening again just so they can appear like the hard man?

canigooutyet · 12/11/2020 08:55

And from vigilante actions they become the victim and access to services victims have.
Why waste police time to then investigate all the shit that goes wrong in these protests? Never mind injury to other people caught up in the middle.

cactusdog · 12/11/2020 08:56

@NotTheToothFairy22 sadly I have to agree, utterly shocked by the attitudes on here

peachescariad · 12/11/2020 08:57

Absolutely yes

canigooutyet · 12/11/2020 08:58

Yes there have been several innocent people over the years who have been mistaken for the peado, including ones who have had their pictures in the papers. And the have been beaten, killed, victims of arson, vandalism and more

Savourysenorita · 12/11/2020 09:00

There's a convicted paedophile on my kids school Road (1 road away from us) I'm thankful I know where he is based so that of he stopped to engage in chit chat with the kids like some elderly folk do is know not to stop and avoid. Best know your enemy than not

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/11/2020 09:02

No I wouldn't. I'd channel that energy into campaigning for longer/stricter sentences for convicted paedophiles.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/11/2020 09:05

And if you make convicted paedophiles the focus of your activism, rather than the children you claim you want to protect, it shows people that’s it’s all about you, and the moral high ground you want to convince everyone that you occupy.

Bloodypunkrockers · 12/11/2020 09:07

@AlternativePerspective

And let’s be honest here. The vast majority of people who attend these protests aren’t really doing it for justice. They’re doing it because they’re every day thugs looking for a ruck, and protesting over a pedo gives them some street cred.

But they’re the types of people who get into punch ups on a Friday and Saturday night, football violence, go home and abuse and beat up their wives and kids. Some of them have probably already done time and some will even be sex offenders in their own right who just haven’t been caught yet.

Don’t kid yourself that all the people protesting are just worried for your children. They aren’t.

I was going to post something similar

I can guarantee they among those at this kind of "protest" will be those shouting the loudest (because it deflects from them); those living with abusers and those guilty of other crimes.

These protests achieve nothing and achieve nothing

ImaSababa · 12/11/2020 09:11

I'd do a lot worse to be honest, if I found out a nonce lived anywhere near me and my DD.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/11/2020 09:12

You’d be happy to go to prison and leave your child without a mother, then?

What does this even mean? You'd risk getting in legal trouble yourself despite being a parent with responsibilities?
AlternativePerspective · 12/11/2020 09:14

The vigilante types on this thread don’t give a shit about the innocent victims who get caught up in these riots.... erm I mean protests.

As far as they’re concerned the innocent people who get caught up in this are just collateral damage.

ImaSababa · 12/11/2020 09:14

No - I'm not daft enough to do anything that would require a prison sentence.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/11/2020 09:17

You sound more than a bit daft to me.

As pp have said, if you cared a bit more about children, and a bit less about looking hard on the internet, you’d be campaigning for stricter sentencing guidelines for paedophiles.

canigooutyet · 12/11/2020 09:21

So basically you wouldn’t do worse as you first claimed loooool.

If your in Leeds, 980 registered paedos in March of this year who are housed.

Yes, they would. They want you to know that they are a BETTER parent than you, and because YOU don't want him killed, you must be a Paedo-Symp.

Some of the masses are scarily thick, and to think the majority on here are parents. I feel sorry for their kids.

"I'm a parent, so I am right and murder is OK, facebook told me so"

Aridane · 12/11/2020 09:34

No, I would not

Hiddenmnetter · 12/11/2020 09:35

This is insane- a disabled man, unable to defend himself, was beaten to death and his body burned, FOR NOTHING. imagine that was your dad or brother or son of husband who was coming home from work and happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Imagine you were responsible for the death of an innocent man because you thought you were executing "justice". I'd hope there was a death penalty for you in those circumstances. Your children would get to grow up knowing their mums and dads were murderers who killed the innocent who happened to be in the way. I can't believe so many people think taking the law into their own hands is a viable plan...

FamilyOfAliens · 12/11/2020 09:42

For those advocating bringing back capital punishment, it will never happen in this country, so saying it is a waste of your time and energy.
