Tescos shop

So I booked an online shop at the beginning of lockdown, it finally arrived yesterday evening. I was too tired and just put it away without checking anything, today I start going through the fresh food and with the exception of 2 packs of sausages everything fresh had today and tomorrow’s dates on it. I’ve had to throw almost everything away 😢

@emilyfrost

But why would you bin a pack of sausages today, that are best before tomorrow???

Perhaps I’m not planning on eating them today; perhaps I have a different plan for dinner.

And before anyone suggests it, I’m not in the habit of freezing stuff.

In this situation it makes perfect sense to get in the freezing habit. Or just as a one off so food wouldn't be binned needlessly.

I am intrigued by the comment. is there something we need to know about freezing stuff? Shock
TonkinLenkicks · 11/11/2020 20:51

Tesco regulary do this to me. I always call and get a refund

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2020 20:53

Is it possible to put any notes on online orders from Tesco saying you want long dates and you don't want the item if this isn't possible? I have never done an online shop with them.

00100001 · 11/11/2020 20:54

People are fucking stupid.

Oh ...these sausages are Best Before Thursday.

I was planning on eating them on Saturday though, waaaaah.

IN THE BIN THEY GO!!!

Can't possibly imagine an alternative solution to this problem. Can't possibly cook them, eat them or freeze them. Nope. Sorry, only possible choice is to bin them...

Confused
NoWordForFluffy · 11/11/2020 20:55

Yes, you can add substitution notes to every item. I'm not sure if they see those notes generally, or only if they have to sub an item though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2020 20:56

I can't imagine throwing away food because of dates.
Obviously do call, but still, thats mad.

Or as most people wokld do leave them in the fridge. I don’t think sausages know the date and to automatically explode at midnight!
AliceMcK · 11/11/2020 20:57

@Clevs

Did you throw it away because it was all off? Or just go by the date on the packets? Food often lasts past the date stated, as long as it looked and smelt ok then there was no need to throw it away.
I have really bad gastro problems so I usually won’t eat anything unless it’s a good 48 hours outside its use by date. DH will, so if one or 2 items are close it’s fine. But we can’t eat everything so fast, the shop was supposed to be for the next week.

I don't think I would be very good at picking. I imagine it's quite stressful.
AliceMcK · 11/11/2020 20:59

@Clutterbugsmum

Why if you ordered fresh meat would you not put it away straight away, It's not Tesco fault you didn't.

The sausages were in date.

You need to read my original post properly, I did put it away, I just didn’t check everything was right or the dates on the food.
OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2020 21:00

The other week I was eating some sausages late in the evening, they were dated that day.
The clock struck midnight before I got to the last one so I had to bin it.
You could clearly see it growing mould as the clock struck.
Bad times.

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 11/11/2020 21:01

What a waste, I cannot believe you threw them away. The best before dates will already have extra time built into them anyway and they weren't off! Amazing how wasteful some people can afford to be.

00100001 · 11/11/2020 21:02

But... That makes no sense. Do you never ever ever eat anything that you are unaware of the best before date?

Never ever eat any food cooked out of your kitchen? Never once ate a cake at a cafe? Never once had a drink from anywhere else but home? Never eaten at a friend's house, or family's??

Confused
Sirzy · 11/11/2020 21:03

You can’t expect the staff to know you don’t want to eat things that are still perfectly safe.

Perhaps shop yourself?

gamerchick · 11/11/2020 21:05

Totally batshit Grin. Some people are in for a shock, if brexit is as shit as predicted.
AliceMcK · 11/11/2020 21:05

@00100001

Why would you have to throw it away of the expiry was today or tomorrow?? Confused
Firstly, If you actually read my post I said the sausages were fine!

Second, I said I had the throw almost everything not all the food away. Because there is no way the entire weeks worth of food could be eaten within 24 hours!

I froze one pack of meat because that was all I could fit in my freezer!

hvnamechange2000 · 11/11/2020 21:06

You sounds absolutely barking mad

Bloody fucking hellHmm

00100001 · 11/11/2020 21:07

Firstly, I never said you threw it all away.

Second. I never mentioned sausages in response to you.

Sirzy · 11/11/2020 21:07

Again though you can’t blame the staff for not knowing how full your freezer is.

They sent food that at the point of delivery was within its best before (not the word best!) date. They don’t know how or when you intend to use it after

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 11/11/2020 21:09

Cook them and they will last another week.
