Not really sure what the point of posting this is.

I just want a rant really.

Does anybody frequent the tattle forums? (Not sure if we're meant to actually talk about other forums on here?)

I'm quite frustrated with the mods. I replied to a particular on a particular thread for a young social media influencer weeks ago to say I didn't think it was constructive to call her ugly. I was banned from the site within minutes without warning.

I still have the odd lurk and have seen it's just happened to someone else on the same thread. This person pointed out it might be better to discuss her questionable actions and not the fact she's 'ugly with a flat arse, saggy boobs and a podgy stomach' and they were banned and their post removed.

Seems they love a pile on without letting anyone disagree!

I feel a bit mixed. I've seen posters and threads that have gone way too far. But I've also seen them expose influencers who I think border on criminality (pyramid scheme type things and money manifesting) and calling out influencers who use their children is somewhat justifed. I actually think the way that companies use social media influencers (and their non consenting kids) to sell products is really opaque and problematic so I think in that sense Tattle is playing quite an important role. But there should never be any excuse for personal attacks or unpleasantness about children.

Funkypolar · 29/11/2020 13:56

Some of the comments are pretty libellous, do Tattle ever get sued?

MrsShelton · 29/11/2020 14:07

i think its their own opinion ... and its a gossip site so i dont know

from what i've seen they try and approach the influencer themselves for an explanation but they get deleted/blocked

Rhine · 29/11/2020 14:15

There’s a particular influencer who I used to really like. Then she became a vegan eco warrior and became quite preachy about it, despite frequently travelling around the world in first class. However I put it down to the fact that we can’t be perfect no matter how hard we try, and travelling is good for the soul (when we aren’t in the middle of a pandemic). Tattle has opened my eyes to what she is really like, grabby, can’t take criticism and blocks anyone who disagrees with her on anything, treats her boyfriend like shit, and is a massive hypocrite with regards to her vegan beliefs (using and promoting products that are tested on animals etc). We also realised she’d been breaking the lockdown rules since March, despite preaching the ‘Stay at Home’ mantra rabidly.

Needallthesleep · 29/11/2020 14:52

I find the people who post on Tattle absolutely vile. They seem to forget to use the ‘unfollow’ button. Social media platforms are our own space to curate. We aren’t forced to follow people.

They also seem to forget that social media influencers have just taken over the space that magazines are leaving. All the stuff in magazines was gifted, but the mags didn’t have to write #gifted on everything. All the photos were/are retouched in mags. If anything the influencer space is much more regulated.

Rhine I know who you’re talking about and agree she is annoying. So I unfollowed her. I really disliked the person who emailed her boyfriend’s HR department to report him! It’s crazy. Lots of people obviously like her still, so of course she’s going to keep doing what she is doing.

EleanorRising · 29/11/2020 15:21

Exactly!

@Rhine - maybe you need to take a break from Instagram ...

plumpootle · 29/11/2020 15:27

Respectfully I'm not sure I agree. Influencers pose as 'normal' people - just like their followers. Even when magazines were dominant it didn't take a genius to realise that if, say, Chanel were advertising in the magazine it would likely show up in their top tips. Influencers are completely opaque and unless they fully declare their affiliations (which they have only recently been compelled to do) you have no way of knowing why they are promoting a company/ product etc.

Also you buy a magazine you understand that you are buying press releases plus some well written articles, art directed pics etc.

You don't know with an influencer what deals they've done, with whom unless they declare.

Also - using kids is grim.

I don't use insta etc but am heavily critical of the Kardashians for a number of reasons. I don't watch their show either. Am I not allowed to criticise?

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/11/2020 15:32

Tattle is a vile site. Full of people with overinflated egos, who think they are playing an important roll in 'calling people out', but in reality are obsessive and jealous, bitter people and no one else gived a shit. Absolutely cannot take any criticism of themselves but god forbid someone defends a hated influencer.

A lot of the gossip is total bs. I know an influencer fairly well who has a tattle thread, and its just absolute shite. Not an acurate portrayal of the person at all.

Their behaviour is embarassing, writing to peoples families bosses to 'expose' an influnecer, or writing to the local council about them. Its just obsessive almost stalkerish behaviour.

Someone faking veganism is annoying, so I wouldnt watch their videos. Some instagramers are totally fake so I unfollow them. Its that fucking simple.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/11/2020 15:37

@questionn tattle is not criticism though. Its just vile hate, most of it is not genuine criticism of someones actions. You wouldnt be able to have an open discussion on someones behaviour, you have to annihilate someones entire being and then laugh about how great you are that you wrote to their local MP about the fact this person ate eggs for breakfast. Its totally obsessive and weirs

cactusisblooming · 29/11/2020 15:40

We are are just so jealous and bitter dish Hmm

plumpootle · 29/11/2020 15:40

But what I don't understand about the 'just unfollow' argument is what about women like Sarah Akwisombe? If an influencer is actually scamming people and then deleting any complaints / comments on her site how can people share concerns / warn others off? As understand it Tattle has been one of the few places that women caught up in her alleged scam have been able to connect to each other.

www.thewotpod.com/article/scams-dressed-female-empowerment-part-2

I think one of the big issues is the lack of regulation in the internet (unlike traditional media)

That said I totally agree on the personal attacks - very weird and nasty.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/11/2020 15:44

@cactusisblooming yes, thats how the majority of stuff I have read on tattle comes across. And I cant imagine why else someone would post the majority of it.

MrsShelton · 29/11/2020 15:45

they are influencers.....influencing kids/vulnerable people/new mums at the same time as everyone else

so its fair they are questioned,'called out' because the shit they peddle is often misleading

one influencer has covered her house with brown material to make it look like a gingerbread house....its a fucking FIRE HAZARD....everyone is fawning over it saying how wonderful it is, she's basking in her glory deleting comments questioning its safety!! bloody dangerous .....ten more families may copy it.....and on it goes

another had unrestrained dogs rattling around their car yesterday....driving kids around! illegal...but influences others to copy

others pimp out there kids....everyone knows the daily routine, school, address and layout of house....as well as what they own and where its kept...
but its ok??

Needallthesleep · 29/11/2020 16:00

Totally agree @DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/11/2020 16:01

I'm not a member so I don't post, but I do love reading it.
I was proper snorting over The Tim Tracker threads last week, though I'm aware that most people probably don't know who he is and I'm the sad case because I do know.
(He's an Orlando blogger)

questionn · 29/11/2020 16:14

@DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon that may be the case (I know of it but don't use it) however I was specifically replying to the point of don't like, don't follow.

RosieLemonade · 29/11/2020 16:16

It can be awful. But it can be really interesting. I find it a bit more down to earth on the threads which aren’t related to influencers.

questionn · 29/11/2020 16:18

I don't follow any influencers but criticise the whole notion of selling motherhood & children's privacy. There was a wellness blogger who faked cancer, I will criticise the hell out of that.

newnewnewbuild · 29/11/2020 16:18

@CatherineSanderson

I’ve been on the site a few times but it’s really not a discussion forum, it’s like a hate forum where people say the most awful (and irrelevant) things they can think of. That’s all it’s about really, slagging people off. It’s just awful so I haven’t been back.
Same - I saw the site mentioned when the whole mother of daughters thing happened and I was stunned when I went to it.

I went on a couple of threads that were about people on instagram that I follow and couldn't believe the awful things that were being said so I haven't been back. I just can't imagine ever posting comments on a site like that

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 29/11/2020 16:39

Yes they are very nasty and seem over invested in certain " celebrities " lives. I think a certain type of person posts on there and its pointless trying to reason with them

Nousernamesleftatall · 29/11/2020 16:53

Dreadful site. As pp said it takes a certain type person to post on that site. So many of the posters come across as very dim too.

Example I see all the time
I will never use X hotel/brand/product as they gifted X influencer when they could have gifted a stay to an NHS worker. Businesses pay influencers to advertise their products. It is cheaper than usual mediums and it works. Gifting Mavis with 50 followers is not comparable.

Also full of Covid police.

Nousernamesleftatall · 29/11/2020 16:59

Just had a look at the Rave section to see if there is a balance.

9.5k posts as opposed to over 2 million slating posts.

HotSince63 · 29/11/2020 17:02

So you, as an active member and poster on Tattle - a site for slagging off celebs and influencers - tried to give a ticking off to another poster, because you didn't like the particular type of slagging off that they were doing.

That's hilarious.

lemonsquashie · 29/11/2020 17:14

I don't like influencers and the amount of advertising they do. I also dislike the ones who film their families and kids constantly and post on Instagram

I find tattle interesting for that reason. A light hearted tease about that is fine IMO. Their choice to put them self out there in a smug and preachy way

It's like a bloody car crash! Don't want to look but can't help it

I also dislike people who used to constantly feature in gossip mags, exposing their families alp the time: jordan/peter André used to forever be on the cover of closer etc

However, getting personal, slagging off somebody because of their body shape, the way they look, their teeth. It makes me cringe that women attack each other like this. It's very petty and juvenile. Like school girl bullying

The concept of 'hate following' is unhealthy. These Tattlers get too involved
