It's approaching fast and people are asking what I'd like but I honestly don't know.

So inspire me please with what you received and loved, thank you.

My 40th was day 1 of lockdown in March. I got an eternity ring from my DH in lieu of cancelled party and holiday. It’s beautiful. 🥰

crempog · 10/11/2020 22:10

That sounds lovely @BikeRunSki

@PontiacBandit Hope you have a lovely day anyway. I know I'm in a fortunate position but I am having almost daily texts from family asking me what I'd like. Saying honestly nothing isn't cutting it.

Lots of people having babies for 40th! No chance here, my eldest is 21 Grin

A chest from the Cotswold Company a bit like this. www.cotswoldco.com/bedroom-furniture/chests/chantilly-white-3-over-4-drawer-chest/

Seventeen years later It's still going strong.

For my 50th I got this necklace www.bluenile.com/uk/mini-infinity-love-knot-pendant-14k-yellow-gold_67030

Needless to say I chose them myself Grin

loubieloo4 · 10/11/2020 22:10

The plan was always a trip to New York.....

I got told a few days before my birthday dh(38) was stage 4 terminal bowel cancer with less than 12 months to live.

SabrinaThwaite · 10/11/2020 22:11

Scalextric set.

Funnily enough, that wasn’t top of my list but has been good leverage over the years.

StCharlotte · 10/11/2020 22:12

Ooh - for DH's 40th I bought him a bird of prey experience day which we both loved.

SabrinaThwaite · 10/11/2020 22:12

Oh Lordy, Flowers @loubieloo4

soupmaker · 10/11/2020 22:15

A North Face waterproof jacket and 2 nights away on Skye with Michelin starred dinners.

Just turned 50 and the North Face still going strong. Was supposed to have 5 holidays to celebrate but COVID put paid to that. DH presented me with a gorgeous bracelet and I'm getting a new wooden garden chair to sit under our cherry tree.

SabrinaThwaite · 10/11/2020 22:17

My 30th birthday present of a food processor is still going strong after 25 years.

My DH truly knows how to spoil me.

Notnownotneverever · 10/11/2020 22:20

A beautiful Hermes silk scarf from DH, theatre tickets, a handbag and bracelet from family.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 10/11/2020 22:37

I got an SLR camera and a laptop for my 40th. Lots of my friends got convertible minis and I jokingly teased DH about "only" a camera ( I was actually delighted with it)

For my 50th I got a three year old convertible BMW ( thanks mainly to our 15 year old second car finally giving up at the same time as us getting an unexpected cash windfall)

thedishonthecoffeetable · 10/11/2020 22:38

A card from the kids with a big badge on. ExH told me to take some money out of our account to buy myself something. I grinned and waited all-day for my surprise party. Surprise surprise it never happened. One of the reasons he is my ex 😁

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2020 22:43

I'm 40 next month and have said any of the below would be awesome:

Rollerskates
A ride on a steam train
Run & Fly dungarees
Veggie burritos
Blackforest gateau
Afternoon tea
Gingerbread
Books

I'm so sorry to posters who've had bad news around their birthdays.

personwifemum · 10/11/2020 22:47

Tiffany necklace, new car, New York weekend and boat party on the Thames.

tenlittlecygnets · 10/11/2020 22:49

A weekend in Venice and an eternity ring...

sansou · 10/11/2020 23:39

Dinner at the Fat Duck, overnight at the Waterside Inn round the corner plus having lunch there for good measure before heading home. Grin
Would love to do something similar next year for my next landmark birthday.

AlwaysLatte · 10/11/2020 23:40

A platinum, emerald and diamond eternity band that my husband designed. I love it 🥰

Quincejam · 10/11/2020 23:55

A classic 40yr old soft top car that I'd always wanted

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/11/2020 00:01

a second(3rd,..?) hand bass guitar. But it's my favourite color: dark green :D

thegcatsmother · 11/11/2020 01:22

Dinner, bed and breakfast at the local restaurant with rooms (v posh and pricey). 3 months later, a trip to Antwerp where a pair of diamond earrings were handmade for me.
