Asking for a friend - how much would you pay for a painting like this of your dog? (photo and painting attached)

She has painted this for a friend and its gone down well - to the extent that others have seen it and want her to do a painting for them. She has no idea what to charge.

Thanks

I said it was for a friend initially rather than by my dd because I didn't want people to hold back and be too nice about it Grin

I bought my friend a watercolour of her dog and it cost £150 but it was framed.

Acrylics take much longer so I would expect to pay more.

NorbertMeubles · 10/11/2020 18:27

It is amazing. I'd pay £150 and would expect to be charged that amount.

I paid a little over £100 (can't remember the exact cost I'm afraid!) 4 years ago for a painting of my cat.

righttothepoint · 10/11/2020 18:28

120-150

stormsurfer · 10/11/2020 18:28

What size is it? I think that would influence the price as then your canvas costs more and you use more paint.

GallopingGreen · 10/11/2020 18:29

I would say £100.
Fantastic work by your DD! Well done!!

LimitIsUp · 10/11/2020 18:29

Good point about size, its not huge and not tiny - A3

Depends on the size. My daughter had a pencil drawing done of her best friend's dog for £40 - it was postcard sized. There is a local artist who paints from photographs and advertises a range of sizes - I think they are priced up to £250.

LimitIsUp · 10/11/2020 18:32

Thanks all. My dd isn't trying to make a living out of it, and she does enjoy doing it ... so for friends and family I think we'll go with £100-£150 (price it too cheap and she will have too many to do)

OP posts:
stormsurfer · 10/11/2020 18:32

I'd say 100-150 then.

BoulangerieBabs · 10/11/2020 18:33

We paid £100 for an A4 unframed one.

stormsurfer · 10/11/2020 18:33

Crossed posts! Came in F same price though.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 18:35

It depends how she is positioning herself.

If as a serious artist then she shouldn't charge less than £100/150.

She needs to value her skills as well as her time.

hadtojoin · 10/11/2020 18:37

I would say £150 - £175. It is a lovely painting, she is very talented.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/11/2020 18:37

It’s very good. I’d say I’d pay £60 happily. But that may be too cheap. It obviously depends on the demand for it.

snowmantime · 10/11/2020 18:45

i'd be happy to pay up to £90, or £110 if a background was included.

PatsyStone39 · 10/11/2020 18:46

Slightly different, but a day session (8 hours) to have a pet portrait tattooed would cost about £400. So, i'd happily pay £150 + without batting an eyelid. She's very talented!

Derekhello · 10/11/2020 18:51

She’s very talented that’s amazing 🐶

anon444877 · 10/11/2020 18:51

I'd pay £150-£250, I've bought similar pictures in that range (of landscapes, not dogs!). Cost up and don't price too cheaply as you'll get lots of requests I bet. We always wanted to get our dog painted.

LimitIsUp · 10/11/2020 18:52

Thanks for the kind comments about her work

Yes I'm just looking at it again, it's wonderful. I bet the dog owner is delighted!

LimitIsUp · 10/11/2020 18:57

Thank you Smile

She painted it for her friend, and her friends mum has been busy taking photos of it and sending it to her extended family, so yes she seems quite chuffed with it

FrankieChips · 10/11/2020 18:58

She’s incredibly talented! What a wonderful painting. Tell her to have a look on Etsy and Instagram for similar artists to gauge what’s normal. Time, materials and talent should definitely be considered.

Greektome · 10/11/2020 18:59

Sorry to say this but you can get this done really cheaply by one of the many people who advertise online.
