Anyone had a nose piercing in their 40s

I am thinking about having one, I now work in a role where there is no problem with having one and wondering if you perhaps had one done in your 40s or later and how you like it? Did it heal well? any tips? thanks

I was in my late 30s when I had mine. It took a while to heal (probably the longest of all my piercings) but I love it. Other than my mother (who is never upbeat or complementary) everyone else said it looked like it had always been there & was I sure I'd only just had it done.

Sterimar spray is good for healing, by the way.

Cheesybiscuits01 · 10/11/2020 10:21

Not my 40's but my 30's. I've had it done twice. Healed no problem each time. Don't let age hold you back. If you want it go for it.

Yes I did

Physically I don't think there would be an issue. We heal slower as we age but I doubt that would be a problem. But I think it's a bit mid life crisis to get your first (non ear) piercing at 40.

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 10/11/2020 10:45

I did and loved it but my nose kept rejecting it! After having it pierced again twice after I gave up 🤷🏽‍♀️

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 10/11/2020 10:47

I got one done a couple of weeks ago and I'm 50. Less painful than the ones I had done in the 90's when they used a gun. Healed fine.

PilatesPeach · 10/11/2020 10:59

I wouldn't have said it was a mid-life crisis - I used to be a lawyer so would not have been ok, now I teach yoga & fitness classes so a question of timing but thanks!

If you like it, do it! I think they look lovely on all ages. I used to have a controlling boyfriend who hated them and the day after I left him I had mine done, best decision!

Fair enough and truthfully I'm probably projecting my own insecurities onto you.

Go for it!

And what an amazing career change! I'm sure the piercing will look great and I'm jealous of your liberation! Maybe one day I'll muster the courage to get the tattoos I've been talking about for decades lol.

I'm 46 and I've just made enquiries with our local place for when the lockdown is lifted. I didn't ask though if they can pierce with a ring or would it have to be a stud? It's been a long time since I had my ears pierced and you had to have studs back then

PilatesPeach · 10/11/2020 17:18

I believe a ring works better for healing and ideally they should pierce the nose with a needle, not a gun.

Yep. I did in January this year. Age 49. I love it and wish I had done it sooner.

NotYourDawg · 10/11/2020 17:23

I had mine done when I turned 40 and realised that I could do as I wished with my body and anybody else's opinion didn't matter (obviously bit different to being a lawyer where it would matter).

I also got my 1st tattoo having spent years worrying that I'd regret it. 2 years on and I don't regret a thing.

Go for it. Hurts like fuck for 3 seconds (I am a total wuss though) but after paracetamol eased the slight throbbing.

hoxt · 10/11/2020 17:24

I got loads of (ear) piercings last year, when I was 44. I think it’s an excellent midlife crisis, they make me really happy. Go for it!

I think rings aren't normally preferred for healing because they're easier to move about, but if you're wanting to wear a ring definitely tell the piercer so they can take it into account when they're positioning it.

Most will pierce with a nostril screw, I would say if your piercer has any micro labrets I find these much more comfortable because there's less to them, though screws are fine and probably what most will use.

Thanks Lellochip

Please don't let age put you off! The majority of my clients are age 40+, I did a nose piercing on a lady this year who was in her 70s.

All piercings should be done with needles rather than a gun. I personally pierce noses with labrets to start with, with a huge variety of attachments (end pieces to choose from), any respected piercer will have tonnes to choose from. Rings can be used initially but often lead to a longer more problematic healing.

Look up jewellery companies such as Anatometal, Industrial Strength, Auris etc. For examples of jewellery. They wont sell to you direct but you should be able to find a local piercer who stocks them to assist you 😊

It's what I'm here for 😊 if you wanted to share your location, if you're in the UK I can also try and recommend someone reputable.

I actually had mine pierced when I was 17 but couldn’t really wear it for years because of my job at the time. I put a stud back in during last lockdown and absolutely love it! I’m 40 btw.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 10/11/2020 23:07

I did. Had it a few years now. It bled a bit to start with but I think that was the location on my nose. Also, the more I messed with it, the longer it took to heal. So ignoring it entirely worked for me.

User258544 · 10/11/2020 23:15

I had one in my late teens and have a scar on my nose Sad

EatTheHamTina · 10/11/2020 23:21

Got it done at 16 now 28 and don't plan on taking it out. It bloody hurt to have it done though!

newnamenewposts · 10/11/2020 23:24

Yep mid 40s and had a nose piercing and two tattoos. I love it!

ZoominMoomin · 11/11/2020 04:56

Do NOT get it pierced with a ring - you don't want it to move around in the piercing. The piercing hole itself is called a fistula, and it needs as little trauma to it as possible to heal nice and quickly. Movement throughout the fistula causes unnecessary damage to it such as deformation of the hole, excess scar tissue and potential for hypertrophic scarring. If you get it pierced, get it pierced with a stud. Do not turn the jewellery or twist it. If it moves during healing, move it back into place, but don't twist and turn it around like Claire's tell you to do. It's very damaging. Yeah, studs look boring, but I'd rather have a 'boring' looking piercing for a few months and then have a ring.
Also, make sure you get it pierced with a needle. The gauge of the needle is usually 1.2mm or 1.6mm. Ask your piercer what size they are piercing at so you know what gauge jewellery to buy. Ask them to use titanium, don't get fobbed off with surgical steel which some people can have bad reactions to. And lastly, if you get it done, clean it with sterile saline only. You can use cooled boiled water to remove any crustiness from it, but the saline should be good enough for that, too.

I am a body piercer btw so I know my stuff :) Enjoy your piercing if you get it done!
