Having a go at me in the middle of the night, saying you’ve been snoring for over an hour and
deliberately tossing and turnin really loudly ina. Very over exaggerated way
to try n wake me up and going to the toilet noisily

I’ve already said he need to get some ear plugs and I’ll wake him when the alarm goes off

Had a bit of a sore throat last couple of weeks

It depends as if you're a regular snorer or an every-so-often one.

As a regular snorer, I would be looking at ways of dealing with the snoring as pp have said. Or have separate rooms/beds/the sofa bed.

If it's just every so often, then perfectly OK for partner to wake you to get you to turn over/sleep on your side or whatever.

I don't normally snore but do sometimes if it's a hot room and I'm in a deep sleep. Am happy to be prodded into a better position.
However, the night my (then) partner told me I must be "doing it on purpose" (I wasn't, I was asleep) was the night I walked out of the room into another bedroom. Forever. We got divorced after that!

Lardlizard · 10/11/2020 09:17

Also no smoking or alcohol

Is it as a result of the neck injury?

Lardlizard · 10/11/2020 09:22

Well the neck injury is years n years old but it’s been playing up last week
But apprently I’ve been doing it for about a fortnight
But I’ve had a sore throat
I do sleep in my side

Today I will buy nose strips
What is this special spray ?

And I’ll get ear plugs and see if that helps

@Lardlizard

Apprently it’s been the last couple of weeks I’m not over weight pregnant or congested I’ve got a neck injury though
Then I take back some of my harsh reply, my apologies.

It could be a temporary thing, if it's an injury thats getting better then there's light at the end of the tunnel if you've never been a snorer before. But maybe a £5 bottle of spray to help temporarily would be a good compromise.

dancingqueen345 · 10/11/2020 09:27

@Lardlizard sorry if I've missed this, but has your husband said where the snoring is coming from? As in do you have your mouth open and it's a guttural sound (in which case you'd be better off with something like mouth tape or a tongue suction device), or is it a nasal snore?

I have snored for years and it's an awful feeling knowing you're keeping someone up but there's a lot of stuff out there that can help.

Lardlizard · 10/11/2020 09:36

Corinaderblue don’t worry about that I take no notice of harsh repliesSmile

But my neck injury has flared up only the past week
And this has been
About a fortnight

When I was heavily pregnancy I snored then
And the night before I had my dd
I was sent home as I was in labour
Full term
I was snoring that night and dh even woke me up then
Then of course I couldnt get back to sleep as I was having full blown labour pains
Went to the toilet and my water burst when I got back in bed
So if he hasn’t if woke me then I would have slept through some of it Sad

What is this spray you all refer to?

Good luck with it, genuinely. I think it will be easily sorted Smile
Sunbird24 · 10/11/2020 09:50

The sore throat may be caused by the snoring - I always know about it in the morning if I snored in the night! Are your pillows quite old? A memory foam one helps me keep my neck aligned properly (I have to sidesleep, always snore on my back!)

Your DH will probably be more sympathetic if he can see you’re trying to find something to do about it too.

The best thing my partner has found is a mouth guard for sleeping in - it readjusts your jaw to open the airway better.

Lardlizard · 10/11/2020 10:02

I will get the spray today
Spent a fortune on pillows over the years
Still can’t find the perfect one
JL sell a temur one about 90quid so perhaps I need to try that

Lardlizard · 10/11/2020 10:02

Atm I hve a dunelm side sleeper for keeping your neck aligned due to injury but it’s not great

@Lardlizard

There’s no spare room to move to either
Doesn't have to be a spare room though. Sofa bed in the living room? Extra mattrass in the utility room/office/garage/hallway/whatever. There are lots of options nowadays. Single chairs that change into single beds, beds that fold flat into a cupboard style thing horizontally or vertically. Coffee tables that fold out to a single bed.
OverThinkingUnderDoing · 10/11/2020 10:19

Good luck, I hope you find something that helps. Don’t be too reliant on ear plugs blotting out the noise for your dh though - my ex used to snore, I got some really good earplugs that you mould to the shape of your ears so no sound can get through. Unfortunately he was such a snorer that it would make the bed vibrate so I could still ‘hear’ it in my head through the vibrations. We ended up in separate rooms in the end. Separate houses now which is even better.

Muddybuddy · 10/11/2020 11:12

@CommunistLegoBloc

Mumsnet is this poster's personal Google.

Drinking and being overweight are the biggest factors.

Lying next to a snorer is awful, especially if they have no spare room to escape to

First sentence in this quote!
picklemewalnuts · 10/11/2020 11:17

As a snorer, I'd rather DH gave me a nudge and stopped me. That's better than actually telling you off, because then you'll feel anxious and upset and won't get back to sleep.

picklemewalnuts · 10/11/2020 11:18

He flops about like a fish out of water, mind, which is disturbing! So we're even stevens for keeping each other awake!

MrsWooster · 10/11/2020 11:37

DP uses Asonor spray and it makes a massive, life altering difference-its foul, apparently, and takes a couple of days to take effect, but better than being murdered in his sleep, which is the alternative.

MrsWooster · 10/11/2020 11:37

It’s

LindaEllen · 10/11/2020 11:45

Snoring is annoying as hell. When DP is snoring next to me, I have to prod him and ask him to turn onto his side (he goes back to sleep very quickly and always says sorry haha) or I become very angry very quickly. It honestly triggers an inner rage I don't have any other time!

You need - for his sake - to address this issue.

Have a search on Google and see the methods available out there, and see if there are any that you feel would work for you. You can also see your GP if it is a huge issue, and simple methods don't work.

But honestly, how would you like it if you couldn't sleep for hours on end because of a continuous noise? Everyone needs their sleep, and you sound selfish as hell.

RB68 · 10/11/2020 11:56

Go to boots and ask - they have a brilliant throat spray. Have some respect for him it is extremely annoying and upsetting. Also the tossing and turning is probably as the snoring disturbs yourself and your own quality of sleep so double bonus.

MustardMitt · 10/11/2020 11:57

Those are only options if you have the space. Plenty of people don’t.
