Disgusting the dickheads actually voted against this in the first place

True, but it goes to show that campaigning and petitions really can work. A great outcome.

ssd · 08/11/2020 13:59

Absolutely

Earlier than I expected but welcome nevertheless. Possibly now as part of the wish of the government for Christmas to be as near normal as possible.

Vouchers are not the answer to this.

Why should the government provide free food?

What happened to parental responsibility?

Vouchers are being spent on non-food items.

Because, ordinarily when in school there are a percentage of children that receive free school meals.

When children are unexpectedly out of school this provision should not stop.

Luckily those that haven't experienced this don't have nosy twats peeking into their shopping trolly to inspect whether as well as feeding their children, they have dared to buy beer and fags

LizaE · 08/11/2020 14:44

I thought this was about feeding them in the holidays?

That's not unexpected closure of schools?

Tinacollada · 08/11/2020 14:51

Above poster; correct I agree

However, Tipexxy appears to be questioning the voucher scheme full stop.

Many, many responsible people are out of work as a result of the virus. A percentage of which will be parents and their children will benefit from this.

StrangeAddiction · 08/11/2020 14:56

Ds2's school bubble has burst so the school has provided an Asda gift card to the value of free school meals that he would be entitled to. It seems it's not just for holidays that - at least our school - will be covering the fsm.

Well done Marcus!

SimonJT · 08/11/2020 15:07

I’m so pleased for the families and for Marcus.

It shows that people power can work.

Are school holidays “unexpected?”
Tinacollada · 08/11/2020 18:59

No, but you're being a moron

Nomnomarrgh · 08/11/2020 19:05

So nice to read yet again someone blaming poor parents for being poor. You know, not all of us smoke and drink.

fussychica · 08/11/2020 19:07

A brilliant outcome for all involved.
Rashford is a top lad and role model, unlike many of his fellow footballers. Can see him going a long way in the future, outside of football.

AldiAisleofCrap · 08/11/2020 19:11

@Tippexy Are school holidays “unexpected?” no but a global pandemic causing a sudden loss of income is!

Shut up @tippexy.
MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 19:43

@Tippexy I bet you expect poorer people to wear a mask to protect you though. I bet you want individualism to be forgotten about with that.

Any proof, study, research or source on that?
LizaE · 08/11/2020 20:58

Supermarkets had to bring in/enforce rules on what the vouchers could be used for, so some people must have been misusing them.

There will always be those that don't use funds and help in the way they are supposed to for their children so a system needs to be created where food is given directly to the children somehow.

They can't be spent on non food items the one person I know personally who used it towards clothing was asked to pay the money back as it had been misused
DianaT1969 · 08/11/2020 21:29

When MPs and 800+ members of the House of Lords tuck into their heavily discounted gourmet meals, brandy and champagne over Christmas, they can do it knowing they have thrown a few crumbs to the plebs.

I totally agree. He is a cracking young person. Brilliant role model (whether he ever wanted to be or not). I keep talking about him to my DC. They dont get it - approx 10 years younger - he's just amazing.
Tippexy · 09/11/2020 01:20

@slipperywhensparticus Two supermarkets (and only two) did indeed put restrictions on the vouchers but then their checkout cashiers received so much abuse when they tried to enforce the restrictions that now they are restrictions in name only.

Hellomoonstar · 09/11/2020 01:43

@ Tippexy have you tried to use a voucher? If you haven’t or seen anyone else using, how do you know with certainty that they are being misused? Have you got evidence of your claim?

I read on here that schools have to pass the money on to families who are self isolating. Not sure how true that is but it's great that some are.

None of the vouchers I received had any restrictions, they were just bog standard gift vouchers. The shop staff would have had no idea I'd be sent them as the fsm scheme.
