Even worse, some families were actually keeping their children off school during the first lockdown as if they sent them to school they would no longer get the £60 vouchers.

Not the majority of families.

Not even many families.

But some families did do this.

I am not saying families in need should not be supported, but that a national voucher scheme is not the best way to do this.

Whiskyinajar · 09/11/2020 08:17

Voucher schemes are better than nothing. In years working with poorer families I rarely met hungry children. I did however meet hungry parents who would skip lunch so their children could eat.

Vouchers don't need just to buy food. My charity has given out £30 vouchers to 100 local families and deliberately bought supermarket vouchers so that families could use the vouchers to buy a winter coat/clothing for a child if necessary. That frees up more money for food.

Vouchers may not be the best way but probably are the cheapest way of doing things.

@Tippexy - This doesn’t make any sense at all Hmm

The children were off school because it was lockdown. Parents didn’t get meal vouchers if they kept their children home if it was not lockdown or school holidays.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 13:55

WTF are you on about @Tippexy? We were meant to keep our children at home, unless we couldn't/they were vulnerable and needed to be in school.

Tinacollada · 09/11/2020 14:02

Tipexxy needs to tippex themselves from this subject 😂

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/11/2020 14:19

Tipex is implying that parents of eligible school years eg year 6 and reception kept their dc off in end of June/July in order to still receive vouchers.

Tinacollada · 09/11/2020 14:27

Aldi - well that's absurd.

Best to keep them hime for £3 a day is it?

(Not that I'm saying you believe this, Aldi)

Tippex - how do you back this up ?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 15:10

Oh I see @AldiAisleofCrap. Well that's just laughable. No one would keep a child at home for £3 Hmm that's not even enough for a packet of fags Grin

chickenyhead · 09/11/2020 15:14

I would pay £30 for someone to take them once in a while Grin

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/11/2020 15:20

Yes to clarify I do not agree at all, it is indeed laughable. I am still homeschooling my dc and I am CEV and they are eating me out of house and home!

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 15:49

Mine are teens and mostly rather lovely to be around, but my DB and SIL have littlies and I think they would have agreed with you in the last lockdown Grin

Not implying, merely reporting the news.

The shock on here suggests some naïveté amongst MNers!
