What time of day do you do you daily walk/exercise?

Do you mix it up? Same time every day? Last lockdown we did 3 o’clock but we are still at work that time most days. 4 is starting to get dark but maybe DD will find that exciting if we go somewhere enclosed. I believe parks are still open which is good.

Mid week I exercise after work.

Weekends I'm up at 6am.

chunkyrun · 07/11/2020 10:25

Run in morning to get it out way

Statusless · 07/11/2020 10:26

I usually exercise in the mornings before shower. If I'm not able to do a particular morning for some reason, I'll do in the evening. Sometimes both.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 07/11/2020 10:28

Yesterday it was from 12 until we lost the daylight at 5pm. It was a lovely, active day out.

PickleWithEverything · 07/11/2020 10:34

School runs =4.5 miles a day of walking or jogging or cycling. Park on the way home from school if it is dry enough. Weekends usually I walk to see my mum who is elderly and alone, talking my toddler with me (on weekdays she walks to me, that is her exercise). That's it. No time for more exercise outside.

My toddler LOVES zumba though, so we do that at home a lot!

I'm finding this really hard this time. Still in bed now actually when I "should" have gone for my run ages ago.

It's mostly about the weather and the dark. I worked all the way through so always had to fit it in before or after work, but much nicer to run at 7pm in summer than it is now. I usually run with a club but of course not now and on your own in the dark doesn't have much appeal.

Also the motivation to get up and use the day has gone. There's nothing else to do with it. In summer pottering in the garden then sitting with a book and a glass of wine was fine. I enjoyed getting the garden really nice this summer but didn't have the same level of interest in doing things indoors. A mixture of too much of a good thing and it not being as good indoors makes it far less appealing this time.

I've decided I'm going to do short runs before work and see if that's easier during the week but whether I make that happen or not remains to be seen.

nimbose · 07/11/2020 10:35

As early as possible to get it out of the way!

BarbaraofSeville · 07/11/2020 10:49

I do a fairly decent walk (about 75 mins) at lunchtime during the week on most days. Realistically its the only way I'll get to do it in the week in winter as I'm not going out in the woods and fields on my own in the dark. We do have mountain bikes and night lights, so DP and I might do rides in the dark too.

In the summer, very early morning or early evening to avoid it being too hot. Days like today, any time, going to have an early lunch and go out soon.

JoeBidenIsGreat · 07/11/2020 11:22

Tends to be in 12-3pm window. My priorities are...

sunny and dry, not freezing or blowing too hard, fairly empty stomach if running, not when I'm fretting about any jobs that need doing, working around needs of family & friend. Sometimes I need to get to a work meeting or is something in tv to juggle, too.

AlrightTreacle · 07/11/2020 12:03

On work days, I drive to work early, get there for 7.30am and have a 20 - 30 minute walk with an audio book. Beats being stuck in any rush hour traffic and helps wake me up and get my head ready for work. Get home about 7pm and go straight for a 20ish minute walk (with a torch now) with my boyfriend, he works from home so it breaks the day up a bit. On days off I go for longer walks or a run, and do yoga from YouTube tutorials.

EmmaStone · 07/11/2020 12:25

I'm all over the place. I work 4 days, and need to drive kids to school on some days, which is 1.25hours round trip, so on days not driving them in, I intend to get up and exercise before work, but I usually prefer to stay in bed. If weather good and I've got time, I'll sometimes try for a 30 min walk at lunchtime. Otherwise it's at home on a Zoom class (yoga) or spinning bike/treadmill. Very lucky to have those options. On day off/weekend, try to walk with friends (now with 1 friend at a time rather than a few of us).

vanillandhoney · 07/11/2020 13:16

Every morning with the dogs - any time between 8-10am depending on when we all get up.

nosswith · 07/11/2020 13:17

Usually about 4 in the week, varies at weekends. Was between about 11 and 12 today.

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/11/2020 13:36

Mostly evenings. If i wanted a run in the evening alone, id have to drive 4 miles to get a decent lit-up area. Couldn’t go alone here.

I had a very early morning walk today to watch the sunrise.

But its usually evening.

daisychain1620 · 07/11/2020 13:40

During the week go for a short run as soon as I get up every morning to get it out of the way. I'm working from home so I make sure I take my full lunch hour and go for at least a half an hour walk. I'm lazy at weekends!

eurochick · 07/11/2020 13:45

If I don't go as soon as the school drop off is done and before I start work I never go. It makes sense too as then I have my morning shower straight after rather than two showers pretty close together.

HugeAckmansWife · 07/11/2020 14:08

You know not everyone does do it yes? It's not mandated that you must. Sorry, in a bad mood because I would bloody love to go out everyday but I'm single parent to tweens who lost the love for 'walks' months ago. When they're at school I'm at work. I can leave them for a bit but not really for long enough to make a walk worth it and can't ask GP every day. Sorry, just having a grump, as you were...

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 07/11/2020 14:13

Ah, that's really tough, Huge. My kids also have no love for walking. I'm lucky that they're a little older and I can leave them. I feel guilty that I can't entice them out, but I'm trying not to feel too guilty about putting my own oxygen mask on and getting out. I really struggle with seasonal affective disorder so some fresh air and styling is necessary. I can't afford to let myself spiral down as I'm still not right from the awful months march to July

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 07/11/2020 14:13

That should say fresh air and daylight

actiongirl1978 · 07/11/2020 14:17

This morning I ran at 5.30(rural totally black with my head torch which I love).

DC had sat school so school run, came back and walked dog for an hour.

Very often I go out after work (school) at 4 as the light is fading. We are super rural so don't worry about being alone etc.

user17163254865 · 07/11/2020 14:18

It's not "daily exercise" this time. You can go out as many times as you want.

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/11/2020 14:24

I don't manage to exercise through the week at the minute. I'm still working as a secondary school teacher, and am at school 8:30-4:30. Before school I'm getting breakfast etc for the family, after school I've got dd who has already done plenty of exercise by walking to and from school and running around at break times/pe lessons. After she's in bed (and before she's in bed tbh) I'm marking, planning, etc til it's time for me to go to bed as well.

I would love to exercise during the week, but just don't have time to fit it in. Unless I sacrifice sleep, which I'm not prepared to do. I only manage a decent walk (I don't run) at the weekends.

Aragog · 07/11/2020 14:25

Last lockdown both Dh and me worked from home, and we had MIL loving with us. We went for a walk either at lunchtime or after work hours.

This time both me and Dh are working outside the house. Dh will work from home 1-2 days a week but, once I'm signed back as fit for work (recovering slowly from Covid) I'll be back at school full time, so no real time for a daily walk. Will try and get it at the weekends for a walk though.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 07/11/2020 14:25

And never was, in England. You could go out as often as you liked for as long as you liked.

We can go out 'for recreation' in a public outdoor space, as well as exercise. So can potter around whatever you can access for as long as you like.

Doesn't help much if you work 9-5 though.

JoeBidenIsGreat · 08/11/2020 04:54

[for exercise] in England. You could go out as often as you liked for as long as you liked.

I agree the words of the legislation never limited number of excursions. But limited numbers of excursions was the enforced policy backed up by threatened police prosecution. That's why these were the news headlines and news story commentary around 12 May:

What time of day do you do you daily walk/exercise?
